Haikyu!! 1x23 "The Play to Shift the Momentum" - reaction & review
Added 2024-12-17 15:44:22 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to season 1 episode 23 of Haikyu!! Wow you guys, this was so back and forth! Karasuno really just kept coming at this school to the point that we were pretty much in a stalemate. Who knew our new friend (whose name I'll get eventually lol) would be the one to turn the tide! And WOW, that move at the end from Kageyama, omg!!! Great stuff! Enjoy! ~ MH

There it is, I knew I knew it lol. Thanks! I got the punchline of everyone wondering why the coach would do that to him on his first time lol, not sure what I did/said hat made it sound like I didn't? That was such a tough position for him. It really seems like you'd have to work off of feel/instinct in a situation like this. I'll do my best with the tech signals, no promises :)

Also I think you completely missed the punchline with Kageyama when he stepped in to serve for Hinata - everyone else was like “is the coach a sadist? It’s his first time!” Even the neighborhood guys were like, “what is he thinking!?” (You have football people in your family, you’ve seen them do this at least once while watching a game I’ll wager… 😂). But while everyone else was freaking out Kageyama was just thinking “I think the back of my head is probably a lot safer with this guy serving…” 🤣🤣🤣 They are correct about serving being a very isolated position. It’s like batting in baseball. Everyone has to do it - but if you DON’T do it properly it can end up costing your team the game. The idea was to break the flow Seijoh had, and in a twisted way, it worked. This is what kind of intensity you see in a close game, where one wrong move or right move will make the difference between winning and losing. I wouldn’t say anything’s really “planned” during a rally, every time the team’s using the ball, they’re making split second decisions on who to use, who to trick, and all sorts of variables, and you have a couple of seconds to decide. It’s a lot more about feel. Like when Seijoh’s Liberian became a setter before crossing the line, it was a split second decision because Oikawa hit the ball first. Technical signals to help you, again: if the ref at the net points at one side, it means the ball fell in on that side - point to the other team. Flag or arms straight up - ball hit out of bounds. Arms up but timeout signal at top - ball was hit out but touched by a receiving player before falling. If you can memorize just these three signs it’ll help you a lot. :)
