Haikyu!! 1x22 "Evolution" - reaction & review

Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to season 1 episode 22 of Haikyu!! WOW, so not only do we get Kageyama genuinely doing his best to work with Tsukishima in this one, but we get an honest to goodness backstory for Oikawa!!! So he was feeling the pressure just like Kageyama did...wow. And to think he held it kind of against him too!! Never knew how deep the feelings ran between the two of them. And I'm so proud of Kageyama for putting his pride aside to truly try and work with ALL his teammates, even the less loveable ones!! Great stuff! Enjoy! ~ MH

I love that we got to see what Suga's been brewing up here! There were a lot of similarities between Oikawa and Kageyama right? Tanaka was amazing btw lol! Communication really is everything. Ahhhhh I know, the Hisoka vibes pop out every once in a while!!! HAHAHAH that's the line for leaving Patreon? Got it! My dog makes a lot of weird faces but that would be especially freaky!!!!!!!!

Ohhh ok cool, thanks for clarifying! The similarities are interesting right! It was interesting to see how much Iwazumi affected Oikawa right? That's such an awesome point about the weaponizing of the "we" concept!! That's the goal and something that Kageyama is still figuring out!!

Exactly!! I love that! There really are no unimportant characters here. Oh that's interesting about the OVA, thanks for letting me know! It sounds worth watching for sure!! LOL I'm so excited to see what they do with Tsukki and how I feel about him later!!!

One of my favorite things about this show is that it will often have these background characters that aren't even like secondary characters be important for either the gameplay or for character development for a main or secondary character. Oikawa's closest teammate (Iwaizumi is his name) is one of my favorites because he's just always there keeping oikawa focused and having clutch game moments. There will be a few other standouts along the way as well! Also, I haven't paid close attention to others comments so I don't know if this has been brought up, but there's a Canon OVA between season 1 and 2. It's not like everything will be ruined if you don't react to it, but I'd suggest at least checking it out on your own before season 2 starts at least! (Also it's so fun watching people going through season 1 because - for reasons I absolutely will not even remotely elaborate on at this time - Tsukki is in my top five faves so I always get a kick out of this section of reactions lol 😆)

7:20-7:26 If the opponent touches the ball and it goes out, it is a point for the other team. Yup, here it is. As you said, Oikawa and Kageyama both have a similar falling within themselves. A new, fresh blood comes in, and he's picking things up at an accelerating rate. Meanwhile, Oikawa is trying not to lose to this threat to his position. And in trying to get better, he keeps making many mistakes. Kageyama asking his senpai for help was Oikawa’s breaking point. Thankfully, Iwazumi stopped him. 👊 Volleyball isn't a game you can win alone. I think after hearing Iwazumi’s words, Oikawa took it to heart. It’s not always about “I”. And I think he took that a step further. A setter accommodates a toss appropriately for their team. We see Kageyama doing that greatly. I think Oikawa took what his friend said and worked on not only setting but also bringing out 100% of the best of whoever he's working with. He has them working at their fullest potential, which Kageyama couldn't do. And that's like a setter's dream. You want to be good enough to do that for your team, so Kageyama sees him as the guy to beat. He took the “we” concept and made it his weapon on the court.

What Suga was doing all the time sitting on the bench, when they flip flopped, Kageyama finally got a chance to look at how things were from a different perspective. Suga’s connectivity is something that he’s worked on for a while - just because you’re good at something doesn’t mean it’s easy for you to execute. Oikawa as you said had a lot of the same characteristics in junior high - obviously the only way he could be Kageyama’s senpai would’ve been if they worked on the same team. But from the flashback it appears that he may have picked up on some of the less desirable traits. As for the whole Kageyama Vs Tsukishima debate (and Tanaka breaking the fourth wall on the show), it’s like Suga said - you need to communicate, it’s important. Apparently he was thinking so hard about what he could do he forgot that the other players have their own uh… quirks for analyzing it. As far as Oikawa being all smug let’s not forget he’s got Hisoka’s voice so the creeps are still there. :P But seriously, Kageyama’s smile is enough to make somebody leave Patreon… the horror! Now I’m picturing your dog with that face superimposed over her nose. You are welcome. :)
