Dr. Stone 1x17 "A Hundred Nights and a Thousand Skies" - reaction & review
Added 2024-12-05 15:34:40 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to season 1 episode 17 of Dr. Stone!!! AHHHHHH how did they manage to hit me in the feels EVEN MORE??!?! We learned a lot in this one, like getting to know the specifics of how our original villagers built everything, learning about Senku's dad, and learning about the epic science gift he left him...!!! Senku's tears spoke volumes and I just can't get over how wholesome and amazing this whole situation is. Oh yeah, and btw....Tsukasa is coming!!! WHAT!!! Can't wait for more! Enjoy! ~ MH

You know... Lilian was one of my favorite girls from this series. I really hope she ended up with Byakuya. They are the only single left in the group, but we all know that Ruri and Kohaku must be Lilian's descendants. Therefore, she must have kids with someone, but who? The other men are already have a wife. The only last one was Byakuya. And they are good friends! I'm sure it would be like that. Damn, I would be incredibly sad if I find out that one of my most important person is not petrified and died like thousands of years ago. How sad would that be, even with Senku.

2025-03-21 20:07:02 +0000 UTCI finally watched it. I was dreading continuing cuz I knew it was coming. It also hurts because Byakuya’s voice is so distinctive to me. He’s played so many of my favorite characters. He passed away a few years ago and every time I hear his voice now it just makes me want to cry. The comments about Byakuya not being Senku’s biological dad are interesting. If I had to take my guess it was likely changed just so people in modern times wouldn’t think too much on Senku being related to all the others we meet, if they ever decide to do something with that. He’s such a beautiful character and it is so tragic but also very beautiful. Honestly I’d be terrified and the fact his friends ended up leaving one by one …well it’d be too much for me to handle. And all he’s thinking about is making sure to leave his son a gift for when he emerges. Darn it I’m legit about to cry.

2024-12-19 06:20:55 +0000 UTCThat's the thing, it can totally happen where adopted kids adopt traits and even start to resemble their adoptive parents in many ways. Yeah that's the thing, it's best not to overthink the logistics here lol but at some point, it's all so far removed it doesn't matter as much anyway. Yeah I was thinking about the language thing after, they were all from different places so there's a good chance they were all speaking one common language, probably English. Thanks for clarifying about the couples! Ohhh I didn't catch the thing about the mainland, good call. So sad that we didn't have the hot water trick for Lillian, but true that if Ruri is a descendant, there does seem to be some genetic predisposition to this illness! Loved seeing Senku show his emotions, it's not like he's inherently against it but it's something we don't see from him a lot - which absolutely doesn't mean he doesn't feel them, like you said. So true about modern conveniences! Here we go with a war, should be interesting..!!!

2024-12-15 00:00:52 +0000 UTCThanks so much for confirming and for the details! And for confirming/clarifying where everyone ended up. That's so sad about Lillian, she was young :( I always thought they'd be good together! I can see why this ranks so highly for you, it's SUCH a good one! I'm so glad you agree, each time I watch this I'm just scratching my head as to how it's not one of the Big Three or something!!!

2024-12-14 23:57:18 +0000 UTCHey Leonie! I'm so happy to hear that! Omg I actually kinda feel the same, like maybe originally the plan was to make him the bio dad, just based off the design! But who knows, sometimes adoption works out that way in real life, where the kid happens to resemble the parent! I agree that a lot of it could be due to their father/son bond. AWW I'm both happy/sad that you cried too lol! Omg I know, I absolutely love that Senku was so moved, just goes to show the layers of his character I'm always talking about! I saw Chibi Senku in the next episode I watched after this batch, you were right - soooooo cute! Love the way they constructed the ending. Omg Stone Wars here we come!!!

2024-12-14 23:55:49 +0000 UTCByakuya may not be related to Senku by blood, but it is an underlying truth that humans do take on specific traits of their parents. Maybe not as much physically, but speaking as someone who’s adopted myself I can pretty much say I’ve gotten some habits from my parents without meaning to intentionally. Just in terms of attitude, manner of speaking, values, etc. So what we basically have here is a situation that kept three men and three women alive. When you do the math, there’s only one natural way to have children and it takes both. I believe the show is deliberately trying to be somewhat obtuse about this situation because of the whole “relative” thing, but when you think about it, all humans are related to each other at some point in their family tree, especially if you subscribe to a certain philosophy. Obviously a lot of the flashback just shows Byakuya’s resolve and his forward thinking. I believe the show is having the actors speak in Japanese fir the benefit of the audience, but his discussion with Lillian implied they were actually conversing in English: being that they were all aboard a international space station, English makes the most sense as a communication tool between different countries, because it’s the #1 globally accepted language. It’s like when you see a movie based somewhere else begin with speaking in language and then they switch to English, implying they haven’t stopped speaking the actual language. When we first see the kids, there’s two - after Connie’s death, you later see four. Obviously, this heavily implies that Byakuya and Lillian were procreating at some point as well - there’s no other humans left - because the original couple disappeared looking for antibiotics. One thing to correct, is they were stranded on an island away from Japan, so at some point they had to move back to the mainland - a fact he goes over in one of the tales. Also the disease that took Shamil and Connie was pneumonia - the same thing that plagued Ruri. The only difference was they didn’t have hot springs or antibiotics to give them more time. Clearly there’s a genetic inheritance here. I’d say that Senku is one of those people who only shows a certain side of himself around others - everyone has emotions, but not everyone’s great at expressing them to other people. I think he’s probably half touched and half annoyed that it took him so long to get up… but as they say, everything happens in due time. “Science isn’t magic, it’s things we just don’t think about.” The fact that you and I think nothing of turning on a light bulb, a heater, or an automobile shows just how important it is how much we actually take for granted. Heck, think about when you threw lunch in the microwave the other day. Don’t ever think the things you aren’t thinking about lessens their value, it just shows you how cool the topic can be. 😎 And on that note, Senku’s about to have company… 👀

2024-12-06 00:28:51 +0000 UTCTo confirm a few things: Yakov and Dalia (the "OG" couple 😅) left for one of the main islands of Japan (btw, they were both Russian, as was Shamil. Connie and Lillian are American (Lillian has German(ic) ancestry though) and Byakuya obviously Japanese) to try and find antibiotics for Connie, but since they would have stopped at nothing to return, the fact that they didn't unfortunately confirms that both of them died at sea. And yes, Byakuya was the last one of them left, the scene when he carried Lillian was after she had passed :( And also yes, the both of them got together, as was pretty obvious that that would happen, even when they were still in space 😅 This is definitely one of (if not the... no wait, that would have to be in Season 3 because of a certain character xD) my favourite episodes of Dr. Stone!! There are SOOOO many beautiful (and sad) parallels between Byakuya and that entire story and everything that Senku has already brought back to this world 🧡 Counting them takes too long, I just want to watch the next reaction immediately xD And I agree, Dr. Stone NEEDS to be more well known, it's SO AMAZING 🧡🧡

2024-12-05 23:58:13 +0000 UTCHi Melissa, I absolutely love this episode and couldn't wait for you to react to it. your reaction did not disappoint. I was so convinced that Byakuya was Senku's dad, so discovering he's not, especially when they look so much alike, caught me off guard. However, there's this nagging feeling that maybe, just maybe, they originally intended Byakuya to be Senku's father from the get-go. Their designs are eerily similar, making it hard to believe they're unrelated by blood. But I also have a theory that Byakuya adopted Senku as a baby and because Senku acknowledged him as his true father, he tries to keep his style as similar as possible. That's why I think they look so much alike. I'm pretty sure Senku loves his father more than anything and he's the most important person in his life. And by having a similar hairstyle to him and pursuing the same dreams, he wants to cherish him. As I imagined, I could not stand the tears, I tried throughout the episode, but in the end they just came out. Byakuya saw his friends leave one by one, but in spite of everything he never forgot his son, it was what kept him standing until the end. Seeing Senku cry over his father's grave broke my heart, despite the attitude he has is not except for such emotions, after all, he is also human. Millennia passed, but his father's words could finally reach him. I also think it's a pretty cute detail in the ED that you see Chibi Senku crying. You have to pay attention to that next time, because now it's clear that those scenes in the ending hint at the scenes in this episode. In general, the ending has so many connections with episode 17 and it's just beautifully crafted. Tsukasa is on his way to the Ishigami Village and the Stone Wars is about to begin. You can definitely expect exciting episodes!!!
