Death Parade 1x10 "Story Teller" - reaction & review

Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to the tenth episode of Death Parade! WHOA!!! You guys, we finally got a name! And it seems our girl is putting more together...!! Speaking of which, she's going to WHAT NOW if there isn't a judgment passed soon?! So that's why she's been kept here....! I LOVED the older woman in this story, what a breath of fresh air she was after the last one, phew!!! An absolute delight like her was made for the good place!!! Great stuff! Enjoy! ~ MH

Good call about the chain of events! It's crazy to think this was all part of her judgment and she's turning into a dummy, but it also weirdly makes sense. There's lots of hints about the connections and book in this ep that make more sense in the coming eps. It's not surprising in a way that Decim has emotions, or Ginti for that matter! OOF your prediction came eerily true, at least in part! I was waiting for the arbiters to be former humans too, but they never went in that direction.

Hey Leonie! I know, it was less heartbreaking yet still sad! I love her name! And the references were so heavy in this, I can see that now that I'm done with the series! OMG I can't believe I didn't catch that it was the old man's wife! You know what, come to think of it, didn't he say that he wanted to have some of his wife's food again? Meaning he wanted to meet her in the afterlife? It's too bad they won't be able too!!! Oculus was scary in this one! The last two eps are so good but they are quite intense just like you predicted!!

Right?! What a doll! And I know, it's crazy to think we know her name now!!!

That woman was so sweet. I'm happy she found peace in life and after that. Wow so Chiyuki!! Pretty name. I wonder where we go from here. I'm curious what Ginti is up to. 👀

Hey Melissa, finally we had a more relaxed episode of Death Parade. But it was still tear-jerking nonetheless. We found out some important things in this episode. The first and biggest reveal was of course Chiyuki's name. Now we actually have a real name to call her by. But there were also a lot of little references hidden in this episode. Be it the many allusions to past games that were depicted on the playing cards. And, of course, the ice skates. Since I know you've already seen the last two episodes, you'll be able to relate to this reference. Another thing I noticed that you didn't notice at all is that the older lady introduced in this episode was the wife of the older man we dealt with in the prologue episode. We even saw him in the flashback of the old woman. And if I remember correctly, the older woman died before her husband. I think that's why it's even better that she didn't want to find out why she died, because I believe that would have made her very sad if she had known that she left her husband alone. The bad thing about it is also that her husband was sent to the Void and she was sent to heaven, so they probably won't meet again. It's actually a very sad twist of fate. And as if the tension wasn't already high enough, Oculus has now found out what Nona's real plan is. And I don't think he's really happy about the things he's found out. I'm already preparing myself for a very intense finale. Because as we could gather from the after-credits scene, it will probably be a bit about Ginti, Mayu and Harata as well. And if I remember correctly, the last two episodes are very dramatic and sad.

It should be noted, interestingly enough, that it was the whole chaotic chain of events that got Decim to question Nona about “are we doing this right” in the first place. It seems the rules for arbiters are in place for a reason here, what that reason IS, we currently do not have an answer for - but she insisted that the assistant be judged. It seems Decim returns to discover she’s self aware that she was human because she was turning into a mannequin/dummy - her judgment period is up. So he has to come to a verdict on her no matter what - not because of vindictiveness or anything but it’s for her own sake. It’s interesting they would send a story teller to be the foil here - there’s some weird connection between her and this book, although I haven’t quite put it together yet - but it seems that the relationship between Decim and Chiyuki isn’t that different from the boy and the deaf girl, she can’t hear, and he can’t comprehend feelings. Also Chiyuki was left holding the Joker at the end, so in retrospect, she lost the game - although nothing really untoward seemed to happen there. Nah, the concerning thing was Oculus looking through Clavis’ memories without him even realizing it. He said something interesting: apparently Fecim has emotions? Also I think the shot at the end of Ginti was implying the idol was there. Maybe. I had a dark thought after this - we know that Decim collects mannequins - and that arbiters are living dummies. If humans can turn into dummies because they aren’t judged in a set period of time - 1) could it be all those mannequins hanging behind the bar are former humans and 2) are these arbiters humans who weren’t judged and that’s why they’ve got emotions? Haven’t seen Ep 11 or 12 yet so don’t @me if I’m right, I’ll find out soon. 😉
