Death Parade 1x07 "Alcohol Poison" - reaction & review

Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to the seventh episode of Death Parade! Wow, we're getting a lot more background info on what's going on with the arbiters here! So Decim and Ginta are some kind of experiment that Nona is doing secretly? Also, it was interesting to get to know Quin, the former host of Quindecim! I got some answers here but am left with a whole lot more questions!!! Great stuff! Enjoy! ~ MH

I know, I love Decim's views on the people he judges, even if he's stoic and doesn't always understand what he's doing, you can tell he cares about them a lot! Yeah maybe Ginti isn't really feeling the full range of emotions, that's a good point. Also I agree about fangirls haha, and I say that also being one of them for decades over one band/actor/fictional character or another :P She definitely didn't seem so bad. Yeah that's a good point about what her motivations were!! I didn't think of that! I'll be really curious to see what you think of the next several eps! OMG I was wondering that too about the eye :O

Thanks for the info on the VA! Yeah I hadn't noticed how she woke up, good call! Ginti def seems like he needed some insight about Mayu. That's a good guess on the arbiters being animated mannequins! Yeah that's my question too, I just assumed that Ginti had been tampered with and given emotions? Not sure though!

Hey Leonie! Yeah it was cool to have some more explanation, even if it was left a little open ended / vague! Yeah I kinda thought she tampered with both of them, since Ginti clearly has emotions too? Not sure though! His rapport with Mayu is so fun though!! Oh ok, thanks for clarifying why exactly he kept her around! Also yeah, it seems like it would be pretty obvious that he emotes quite a bit! Oh thanks for clarifying too about what was going on here. I can really see how that ratio of deaths would overwork this system! It does make sense that they'd introduce some "hacks" like the sticks to try and make things more efficient. It's really interesting what Nona's plans are / could be! The next few eps are great as well!!!

Decim has a stoic personality that holds a respect for the ones who lived. Yet he was unable to judge the assistant. I wonder what’s going on there. But I think he’s so sweet he honors them in his own way. Ginti has a somewhat bias towards humans. I wouldn’t count him out just yet. I’m not sure if he’s really feeling anything besides irritation. I think he can’t genuinely figure out where to place this girl. Fangirls are nutty personalities sometimes (I say this as a fanboy myself— BTR forever! ✊) But yeah I think she had her priorities mixed up or something. Idk. She did good, she’s not totally awful. She put her idol first which is nice but I’m not sure if that’s what made this puzzling for him. If Ginti actually drove solely on standard trial outcomes, then he would have just thrown her somewhere. But I think he wants to do a good enough job to the best of his abilities. Maybe the idol had a change of heart while she was either doing it selfishly and selflessly? Idk. But it’s interesting stuff to think about. Now what happened to Quin’s eye?

Quin’s VA doesn’t have a ton on her resume, it seems she was the young voice of Dabi in MHA. Also I’m hearing Quin as in Quincy, not “Queen.” So we know there’s a connection between the assistant and this Chavvo story, but anyone notice how she’s always waking up the same way? Also her memories were wiped, so she just realized she’s dead again after forgetting. It was never specifically said she could remember how she died, just that she was. Ginti was asking arbiters if they had trouble judging for two reasons: one, he knows Decim’s situation with the girl and he’s not happy about it. The second is his own situation with Mayu, so is there a particular reason he’s keeping her around other than he’s stumped? Oculus was reciting the rules for arbiters, and when he said “they are all dummies” I took that to mean they were mannequins that got animated somehow. However, Nona seems to be working on some sort of deadline regarding them. I wonder if we are looking at another one of the tropes where a person is not supposed to be real but is becoming more alive through their interactions. Decim is stoic but seems at the very least curious about how people think, and Ginti is just frustrated and impatient, so, if they don’t have emotions, what don’t we know? Guess I’ll read ahead lol.

Hello Melissa, i'm glad they explained the existence of the arbiters a bit more here. And yet I'm confused as to certain things which have been portrayed. Ginti is quick to a temper, but why is that even possible, considering rule 3 states clearly that arbiters are without emotions as they are essentially dummies who have never experienced death. Unless Nona has tampered with both Ginti AND Decim, this would make no sense, and yet considering how positively easy Ginti flairs up. He was even annoyed/jealous when the cat was feeling comfy in Mayu's arms. Why is that, I wonder, when it shouldn't even be possible for Ginti to KNOW what anger is. Other than that, it's kinda amusing to watch him interact with Mayu; I think he got really confused at her when she chose to sacrifice herself instead of throwing Harada into the pit so it became impossible to judge her properly, thus keeping her around. I'm surprised none of the other arbiters, the other staff, nor Oculus has noticed that this arbiter has actual emotions (which is specifically against the rules). For events of this episode, I'm assuming either Nona really did want to mess with Ginti, or that his walking to Decim at the beginning was actually to confide with him that he was unable to judge Mayu, and hence her remaining at Ginti's floor. We got a bit more info on the state of the world and the tower. 7000 deaths per hour with limited time to process and filter all the memories for judgement. You can totally tell that Quin and her colleagues are overworked, leading to possible lapses in the filtering process (or even them doing a half-assed job), resulting in imperfect and possibly incorrect judgments on the part of arbiters (though in that case, totally not their fault). Because of this situation, I'm actually seeing the merits of using those cheat-sticks to force the game participants to drag out their inner evil. It makes for an easier job for the arbiter when judging. That Decim seems to respect the lives lived by his guests makes for a more comprehensive judgment overall. I think this is sort of like an internal revolution that Nona is trying to start here, by secretly enabling Decim's emotions somehow. I'm curious to know what exactly her purpose for doing so is though. She herself mentions that there was little time to begin with, so what is she trying to do with Decim and her current 5-year experiment? Looking forward to next episode, because it seems this "special pair" will instead of being your average game of the week fare, will actually be used to push the plot somehow.
