Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to season 1 episode 3 of Haikyu!!! Wow guys, we are still dealing with lots of tension between our two boys, but I have a feeling it's only a matter of time until the walls between them start to come down and they respect each other! We also get some new opponents here, other first-year students....gotta say, I'm not loving the mean attitude!!! But, they literally just did the common enemy thing I suggested before haha. Can't wait to see what happens! Great stuff! Enjoy! ~ MH

Shoya learning you don't get to pick your own nickname; it's bestowed on you by your friends or teammates and usually never flattering.

2024-10-09 15:59:55 +0000 UTCThanks for the VA info! Ohhhh gotcha, it's a permission thing! Thanks! Exactly - like he did clarify that there would be an opportunity to win him over, at least. Wow so receiving is extremely important then, got it! Oh yeah I totally said server instead of setter haha, they're two different things. Ok cool, good to know the previews aren't really previews!

2024-10-09 15:15:37 +0000 UTCThat's awesome, wow! What a resume! You're right, he does have a distinct voice. For someone who isn't trying to do different "voices" when he acts, he has a knack for selling very different roles doesn't he!

2024-10-09 15:15:09 +0000 UTCTyler already mentioned Tsukki's VA being Shigaraki from MHA and Toge (cursed speech user) from JJK, but he is also Mereum (Ant King) from Hunter x Hunter. I always find his voice work fascinating. You can always tell it's him, as he barely changes his voice, but it always works! From being demon lords to sympathetic bug rulers to high school volleyball bullies, his VA always sells it for me.

2024-10-08 17:22:59 +0000 UTCTsukishima is such an antagonizer to the fifth power. Idk about the previous stuff. It does give a bit of insight into next episode with a little fun dialogue I always loved to read. Idk.

2024-10-08 10:44:40 +0000 UTCVAs for the new characters: Tsukishima (the tall guy who’s getting on everyone’s nerves): Shigaraki from MHA, Toge from Jujutsu Kaisen Yamaguchi (the smaller one): Ren from RWBY: Ice Queendom Now that we know Kageyama is Iida’s VA is it just me or do they look like they could be related. As for the other character, I believe Shoyo is his given name, and the others haven’t received permission from him to use it, which is why they’re referring to him as Hinata. Japanese culture things, you know. Kageyama had one clear line in this episode that sounds like an insult, but there’s a underlying qualifier: “RIGHT NOW, I don’t think you’re essential to winning.” In other words, he sees Shoyo as being too eager to do the “cool” stuff of the sport but not the important stuff. Let’s take football, for example, since you told me you’ve seen some. A quarterback is the glamour position, but they can do nothing without the five people in front of him (offensive line) blocking the other team and giving him time to throw a pass. Receiving is what Shoyo is being forced to practice in this episode, and it’s just as essential to volleyball. Receiving is basically the first “touch” after the ball goes over the net. The ball is usually either being served or spiked, and receiving it correctly is paramount to being successful. A bad receive will cause the setup for the next two touches to be extremely difficult, or even worse, go off away from everyone else and score a point for the other team. Basically if Shoyo doesn’t learn how to receive, he’ll not setup the team so that he has a chance to spike the ball. You caught it earlier, but Kageyama is a setter. The “server” is the person who starts the next rally (the process of moving the ball back and forth over the net until a point gets scored). You gotta do the little things if you want the big things. As far as the “previews” they haven’t shown me anything too concerning at this point, it’s seeming to be just character banter and occasional fourth wall breaking so far (think JJK). Moving on.
