Dr. Stone 1x02 "King of the Stone World" - reaction & review

Google Drive Link posted under description!

Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to season 1 episode 2 of Dr. Stone!!! Dang it, now I'm even more hooked! Tsukasa was such a cool character to bring in - not only is he incredibly useful for our cause, but he also has a sick design, awesome VA and brought some really philosophical drama into this mix!!! I've gotta say, he raises some interesting points and this whole turn of events was something I was very curious about in terms of how they'd handle it. Can't wait for more! Enjoy! ~ MH

Yeah I had to look up the VA! Yeah that's true, Senku and Taiju both kinda had a point about waking her up I guess! That's true about the focus here - in AD it was more on medicine and here it's more on broader scientific applications. I've never been good at science which is something I also regret! I know, Senku def kept something out of that explanation!! He was right in a way, they're already clashing. It's such a tough question, because there's something to be said for "if you could weed out harmful people in society, would you do it?", and of course that sounds good on paper at first, but it quickly becomes a mess once you realize just how subjective that could become. In this case, Tskuasa saying all adults shouldn't come back is a huge generalization that is fraught with problems, both logical/practical and moral/philosophical. HAHAHAHAHAHA nooooooooooooooooo not the Angelo Stone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He's the one person I would never ever wanna see get de-stoned :P

Aww I'm so happy to hear that the OP does that for you! There's nothing like feeling nostalgic for your faves in anime! I think Tsukasa is such an interesting character for sure. I knew it was a Jojo voice and started to place it throughout the ep lol! They're SO different though. OMG he totally looks like Kars and Illuso! It is a cool plot twist isn't it? Can't wait to see what happens! I love the way they vary the styles in the animation for the ending! I'm so excited for you to see my reactions, thank you!

Hahaha glad you liked it! OMG can you imagine? That's true, it'd be really interesting to have them wake up with all their clothes gone I suppose :P OMG what would Dio even do? There's no one to feed off of or rule!! He'd be so sad :P Oh wow, no kidding about Kabuto lol! Oh nice, glad to hear you got to watch that!! HAHAHAHAHA I'd die if he said that :P

I hear you, we're so early on haha, I'm sure there's a LOT on the way! I think impish and science gremlin are perfect ways to describe him haha! That's the thing, he feels so different from other protags! OMG pure bean is also an excellent description for Taiju haha! He's a total golden retriever! I didn't hate the beard honestly! The lions fr would've been intimidated by his "mane" haha! PILLAR TEEN HAHAHAHA!!! Yeah he's got a lot going on in his philosophy, but the whole generalization of adults is not as informed. OMG can't wait for your boy to show up! I love the ED! And dang, we have even better ones coming, that's encouraging! Hahahaha I love the actual namesake for Dr. Stone, it was pretty sweet! Not exactly what I pictured, as I thought there would be an MD with the surname Stone :P

Right? I'm excited to see more! Hahaha I was getting total Kars vibes as well! OMG I know right?? We've all known since 2020 how important soap is, but this put it in a whole new light :P

Honestly I'm not sure what to say when talking about the show at this point in time. xD But I do have to say, Senku has been one of my favorite Shonen Protags as of late. Because he is a good guy for sure, but he's not above being a little impish. In fact, he can be like a downright little science gremlin sometimes. xD But I feel like it's trait that I don't feel like I really see that often in Shonen Protagonists? Like they can be cheeky, but not to the level that Senku can get to at times. Taiju's a pure bean. He's like a Golden Retriever in human form, just far, far too innocent for this world. Not much I can say right now, other than BRING BACK THAT GLORIOUS BEARD! T0T I bet those lions would have hesitated if he still had it. And finally... Pillar Teen Tsukasa. ... For being called a 'Primate' and being able to MANHANDLE AN ADULT LION, he seems pretty chill, intelligent, and incredibly philosophical. ...It's a shame he's so caught up on his dumb: "A world without adults would fix everything." thing. ...I'll have more to talk about these three later. ToT I just hope *my* boy shows up soon, I miss my evil son. Also the first ED is so good. T oT I can't even remember all the other EDs because of it, LOL. However when it comes to the OPs, I feel like they get better and better... But probably because they start hitting genres that I actually really dig. xD I like the other songs more, but this fits Dr Stone the best. ...As for 'Dr. Stone'... Well, you're going to want to wait for that title drop. o: Edit: Oh, nevermind. It was this episode. 🤣 I thought it happened a little later than that.

Okay interesting! Two different takes on things. I think I see where this is going. Someone already said it. I was thinking it— he reminded me of Kars. XD Great episodes. Can’t wait for more. I now have a huge appreciation and a ton more respect for soap! 🧼

Now that we’ve kind of established the scenario in the first episode, there’s a little more to go off of. Obviously the overarching task facing Senku is getting everything back from zero to a hundred, but you can’t get to a hundred, before you get past step one. I was set to put up Tsukasa’s VA but you found him out already. :P Taiju and Senku get along for the most part, but there’s a few clashes - the most notable one here ended up saving their lives, as by choosing to be a gentleman and not revive Yuzuriha stark naked they were able to revive Tsukasa instead. At the same time Senku is correct - you’re taking a big risk - what’s more important, her dignity or her life? Honestly, science class in high school was something I found extremely boring and dull - I really wish they had something like this then, because their application of scientific knowledge in this show makes far more sense and is much more interesting. You compared elements of it to Apothecary Diaries, which this replaced, and there are a lot of similar applications, but while Maomao’s knowledge is more that of a doctor, we’re going all out here. Tsukasa is strong, helpful, and resourceful - and Senku notes that the other two would be no match for him. Senku definitely said there were four uses for the calcium carbonate at first - so the question is, what did he decide to keep back? It turns out his concerns aren’t completely unfounded, as we have our first philosophical difference. You can totally understand that Tsukasa feels the way he does - the world had a lot of corruption and issues caused specifically by human greed. Who wouldn’t want to do things over better? But Senku isn’t interested in “playing God,” as you call it, is it really fair to decide who lives and who doesn’t based on a whim? This question, of course, has been asked for centuries - even before all this - how do you decide what makes a person “worth saving?” It’s a question that can’t be answered easily. I’ll just leave you with one last thing: I know I just went off on a shpiel, but you mentioned Senku saying he hoped he didn’t wake up a murderer, and between that and the VA for Tsukasa, maybe think twice before pouring fluid on anything that might resemble an Angelo Stone… (I have been saving that one. 😁)

The second episode continues just as strongly as the first one left off and begins with a fantastic opening. This opening brings back so much nostalgia for me, as I associate this song with a very positive time in my life when everything was a bit simpler. And when I hear it, I like to think back to that time. Also, the song itself is just fantastic. It really hypes you up to look forward to the next episode. Tsukasa is also introduced in the second episode. His character is really complex, because even if you think he's a very nice and cool guy at first, he still has such a dark side that makes him a bit scary, especially when you consider how strong he actually is and that he could actually knock out Senku and Taiju right away if he wanted to. I also immediately picked up that he has Bruno's voice. And the two characters couldn't be more different. Bruno would never do what Tsukasa did. But in terms of looks, he really resembles Illusio and Kars from Jojo. He's actually a pretty nice combination of a lot of good Jojo characters. It's definitely a very interesting plot twist that Senku and Tsukasa's idea of how they want to build the new generation of humanity is completely divergent and represents very extreme points of view. We'll see how this confrontation develops over the next few episodes. Lastly, I want to say something about the ending. Dr. Stone generally has very interesting ending animations and styles. The songs are all very good and in general, from my point of view, the endings are very unique. That always makes the end of an episode even better. I'm looking forward to watching Dr. Stone with you in the coming weeks and can't wait to see the next reactions from you.

Oh hey! Nice reference! Who would have thought if Kars was also affected by that light! But if that the case, then Joseph would also become a stone statue too. And when he wake up, he would find himself in the land where no clothes left. Would that make him excite? By the way, if DIO was somehow survive and see the world like this, could he survive? Except for animals, there are no prey left for him since everyone turned into stone. By the way, Tsukasa's revived is practically a Cast Off done by Kabuto's riders. And I just watched Transformer One today. Tsukasa did really give Megatron's vibe, just a softer and tender Megatron. However, I doubt that a guy who pay respect to the dead lion and every meat he get will just kill people for nothing. He at least should have some regret doing it. Just that his ambition was too strong. Speak of which, I suddenly imagine Tsukasa yelling "Sticky Fingaaaa!!!" LOL
