My Hero Academia 7x19 "I Am Here - reaction & review

Google Drive Link posted under description!

Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to MHA season 7, episode 19!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You didn't tell me I'd be bawling the WHOLE EP you guys!!!!!!! This one was so sad, so sweet, so beautiful, and the literal culmination of everything we've been through with the Todoroki family on this series. Watching the mom, brother and sister get in there and help, Shoto coming in with the help of Iida (and encouragement of All Might) to save the day, and Toya's and Endeavors words....!!!! WOW!!!! I freaking love this show!!!!!!! Also I can't WAIT to see what All Might has planned!!!!! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

Me too!!! Wasn't that so beautiful/symbolic? It's crazy to think that all those emotions are surfacing now for AFO. You're so right that All Might really came to the conclusion that you don't even need powers to be a hero. OMG same, I was thinking the same thing that he might die :( Didn't even realize it when I made the comparisons lol. It's gonna be such a fire fight though!!! Thank you so much!!!

I love the All Might moment in this episode so much it’s just so awesome and heartwarming to see him putting his life on the line to protect the world & his student, successor, son whatever you want to call Izuku especially without a quirk. The concept of AFO now actually feeling all his hatred for All Might because of his connection to Shigaraki is so interesting because it let’s us see emotions never seen in AFO before & the crazed look/smile on his face really says I can do it I can win against him this time & with his emotions going out of control how could he resist. I love how AM is thinking back to being asked if you need power to be a hero in the 1st episode of the series & AM has decided that no you don’t. It’s so badass that All Might is facing what might as well be the devil himself & smiling in his face & the title drop with AM’s classic line is the coolest thing ever. Finally with the Ironman comparisons I’m very worried that AM in going to die but I have a lot of faith in him so I’m trying not to worry I think it’s going to be 1 of the best fights no matter what. Awesome reaction & thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

I love this episode so much because it’s the culmination of a lot of different things especially what I think is the best written plot line in the story the Todoroki family. It’s crazy to see Izuku creating a tornado with his clash with Shigaraki at the very start of the episode but the cool thing is that at the very start of the show All Might was shown being able to change the weather with his power & now Deku is doing exactly that truly becoming the successor indeed. I love how what was the very 1st hero we saw in action in the very 1st episode of the show Death Arms who retired because he felt that he was only human was unconsciously moved to protect people because of seeing Izuku on the live stream knowing exactly how much Izuku has grown having witnessed Izuku moving without thinking in the very 1st episode just like Death Arms is now it’s a great full circle moment & emotionally impactful especially when he had admonished Izuku for doing exactly that back then. The 1 spy who was placed in 1 of the evacuation blocks showing just how terrified he is of failing All for One continues to do a great job of showing how scary AFO is. I feel so bad for the main cop Tsukauchi having to handle a lot of the logistics of this 2nd war not long after the 1st having to hear all the reports of things going well, getting worse, getting better & then getting much worse as well as all the different heroes getting injured or possibly worse this man has been aging 30 years in like one year probably only more so after last episode & what almost happened with the explosion & what his very good friend All Might is about to do in this episode. The animation of all the sparks coming off of countdown Toya representing the giant explosion building up inside him is amazing. I think the horrified reactions to learning about this does a great job of showing just how awful an explosion like this as well as how bad the situation is becoming with AFO getting closer to Shigaraki is especially seeing someone like La Brava having a horrified look on her face it’s more shocking somehow when it’s her. I love how when it seems like everyone is going to give into despair that’s when All Might is there to bring in the hope again. I love how Iida continues to be towards Shoto as he is going through a lot of stress, sadness & lingering injuries from his fight with Toya & I love how determined Shoto to do what he can to help Izuku especially with how much all 3 of them have been through together & in their journeys as characters. I love the conversation All Might has with the 2 of them as he comes up with the only plan that could stop Toya’s explosion in time which is for Iida to get Shoto to his brother as fast as possible & I think the best part of the conversation is All Might’s emphasis on how the strength of one’s resolve & determination can make your physical power stronger as well. I love how ready Iida was to get this done as soon as All Might said you can run the look of resolve never leaving his face giving him parts of his suit because Shoto can’t withstand high speed as much as he can. And then we get the start of the animation becoming even better with Iida’s take off & I heard that Studio Bones got a bunch of the best animators who have worked on the show in the past to work on this episode which is why it’s so good. I love the next full circle moment with Stain watching on as Iida is fully embodying what he thinks makes a true hero after saying Iida would never be a hero & believing people can’t change back in season 2 which was the 1 hypocritical part of his so seeing him approve of Iida is a great moment seeing that anyone can be a hero and change.

No worries, better late than never! :D I'm so glad you warned me about the title! That's crazy about how many chapters they packed in here too! You just know that All Might is about to do something amazing! And I'm so glad I remembered just at the right time lol! Awww that's a really good reason to delay watching the ep though, have fun at the con!!! So cool that you'll be at a Dr. Stone event, that's awesome!!!!!!! OMG I totally get the reasoning for those reactors but for me it was that I wasn't able to talk much because I was sobbing D': LOL!!

Melissa Moore

Hi Spadeas! :) Ahhhh that was very clever!!! OMG I couldn't agree more about how well the "your turn" / "my turn" thing came full circle! And I love that even those who had left the hero line of work just couldn't stay away! So true about the parallels between Dabi's and Endeavor's powers too. And that's actually so insightful about their powers and how they were affected! Not surprised about the scars, sadly, but WOW, to think that this even came full circle with Shoto's scars, is REALLY profound!!!!!! Endeavor's VA was amazing here as well! OMG, I'm scared that there will be more tears possibly next ep!!!

Melissa Moore

Oh and also kind of hilarious: I've watched quite a few reactions of this episode and almost everyone said smth along the lines of "Sorry, I'm not talking much today" because they were so fully sucked into the episode xD

NarumiYutani

little late to the party this week, but whatever xD soooo NOW you know why I told you not to look at the title 🤣🤣 While yes, I AM HERE is the title of Chapter 386*** (formatting the comment a bit better, because I used too many parentheses again 😅😅🤣) (btw, this episode contains the most chapters per episodeso far (as far as I'm aware :D) It start's halfway through chapter 385 and animates until CHAPTER 390!! 5 and a half chapters, that's crazy! (it's usually around 3) They did leave out the first few pages of chapter 387, that gives us a bit more backstory and an unexpected connection between two characters, but I'm not spoiling which, in case it gets revealed some other time xD) *** and the title in the Manga is shown in the same panel as in the Anime and it's absolutely AWESOME, but all we got about All Might, was the tiniest teaser for the first fight next season. The biggest chunk of the Episode is about the Todoroki Family drama and most people online agree with me, that the episodes should have been named after Chapter 390 - Shoto Todoroki: Rising! It's what he absolutely deserves! And it would generate the same pre-hype for the episode as "I AM HERE" does, but without spoiling sooo much. (seriously, EVERYONE in that world (and us fans) knows these words by heart and know that it could only really mean one particular character, so going into the episode knowing that All Might is gonna do smth cool, really takes away from that surprise (and the surprise is gonna get even better ahhhhh xD) And yes, you remembered about the Ending at the exact right moment, those two panels of Shoto and Dabi and of Shoto and Toya are new ^^ Now to watch the rest of the episode, maybe I'll have even more to say xD I'm kind of upset, I can't immediately watch the new episode, I'm going to a Convention (as Jiro and meeting a new friend, who's gonna go as Kaminari, yey ^^) but I also already know that the SECOND I have a chance to look at my phone (funnily enough at the time the episode is gonna air here, I'll be in a live fan artistic play thingy about.... DR. STONE xD Can't miss that, so my phone will have to wait a moment xD) I'm going to immediately jump to the end of the episode and watch that and the preview, so I can adjust my predictions (especially the question of the All Might FIght

NarumiYutani

There's no way that guy is my Joseph!!!!!!!!!! :O Ugh, this show has been playing heck with my makeup and schedule!!! I love them perpetuating the idea of a hero not just being able to sit back when help is needed. OOF I see what you mean about the Iron Man reference lol, let's hope I'm not right :P Shoto and Iida's moment was great and OMG they totally Sonic-ed across Japan hahaha!! You for real could make a show just about the Todoroki family. It's crazy to think that he needed his family so badly in this moment, but there's something so poetic about it! Also good to know about the number of eps, that's not many!

Melissa Moore

Hey Leonie! I couldn't agree more, it was amazing! AWWWW I'm glad it moved you so much too! They really played the long game with this story and it paid off in this one. Endeavor's journey has been tragic, beautiful, and uplifting all at once. OMG same, once she got in there I was done!!! I agree, I don't think it would be the right move to have Dabi survive and/or to try and do a redemption arc. For real, this animation was insane!!! I loved All Might's moment too, dropping the title there made it feel even more epic XD What an ep!!! Def one of the best of the season if not the best!!!

Melissa Moore

OMG seriously! We haven't checked in on him in forever! OMG wasn't that a twist with all of them showing up!? Also I couldn't agree more about the music! Omg I know, wasn't that amazing that he came back?! I love how they're bringing these stories full circle!!!

Melissa Moore

Oh boy...!

Melissa Moore

That's good to know!

Melissa Moore

Hey Melissa, I'm sure this episode will go down in history as one of the best My Hero episodes. I can't remember the last time I cried so much during an episode of My Hero. We both cried through the whole episode together. I'm glad I thought of tissues beforehand because I remembered some in the comments saying to be prepared. I'm pleased that the Todoroki story ended with such a good finale. It was one of the best stories MHA has had, although it was really drawn out and often used flashbacks that you've seen ten times before, which was a bit boring, but the ending was fantastic. You really saw how far Endeavor has come as a character. That he has developed from a cold-hearted, unloving man into a father who actually loves his children more than anything and has finally understood what family means. I love that Endeavor can only see Dabi as his little boy, despite what had to be done. The moment when the mother tried to save Dabi was the point where I just cried and didn't pay any attention to what was going on in the episode because it was so emotional. But it was also a great scene where all the other siblings helped to save their brother. After that, I don't think Dabi should survive because he's just killed too many people and can't really feel the love of his family until the end. I think deep down he knows that everyone loves him anyway, but he's crossed too far over to the dark side and probably won't get out of it. It's been a long while since the last time a MHA episode popped off so damn hard on the animation, but seeing the sakuga scene with Iida launching with Shoto on his back was simply beautiful to watch. What a moment that was! Same goes for All Might making his own stand against All For One, where the episode's title dropped to round up such a hype scene.

Oh, just a PS: just thought you’d be interested to know I recently discovered that Skeptic (the hacker for the Paranormal Liberation front mentioned in this episode) has Part 2 Joseph’s VA. 👀

Tyler Stobbe

Me after watching this episode: “yeah, there’s no way she’s surviving this one.” 😅 Next two week’s filming schedule, film MHA since it’s due sooner, cry and redo makeup, film everything else? 😂 I was a bit curious about Dabi’s VA after this episode so I relooked him up: Zenitsu (Demon Slayer(, Jaune (RWBY), Conny (AoT). Also Guccio in JoJo Part 6 since it’s you.) Let’s start with the first theme of the episode, which is when the one retired hero comes in because his legs are moving on his own, just like Midoriya did at the start of the series. Why? Because heroes are, as All Might said, measured by the size of their hearts. They can’t stand to see others suffer and actually do something. The second topic, is All Might - apparently his ploy is to distract AFO because we all know Shigaraki is obsessed with him, so what kind of emotions will that invoke? Also, did you have to use the Iron Man reference? You know why I asked… Shoto and Iida are more alike than they realize, here they are admiring the other’s struggles but they don’t realize that they’re kind of reflections of each other, in a way. It’s basically both of them taking inspiration from the other. Also did we really just go Sonic the Hedgehog across Japan? Obviously the big twist here is the Todoroki sequence: I mentioned before that I wondered if this might be the most complicated family dynamic in anime. Heck, you could run a whole show off of just their drama. There’s a lot of visual implications here. Especially when they all start getting the scorch marks that Endeavor and Shoto already had. Toya’s rage and quest for revenge got so out of control he nearly killed his entire family, without realizing it - they were in the stalled sun block, I’m not sure you caught that. I let’s stop and think about the irony of that: Endeavor’s obsession with surpassing All Might is what drove his family apart and caused this issue to begin with. It took his entire family to stop him, Shoto had the key move but even he couldn’t have done it without the others. Just as Endeavor needed his family to forgive him and help him change, Toya needed them to stop him from doing more irreparable damage. If they hadn’t, he would’ve been exactly what he didn’t want to be - his dad. I don’t know if he can be saved or not, but I think the fact that he realized they cared enough to try must’ve meant something. Because the title was actually a bit of a trick: THEY were the ones who were actually THERE. Slight correction for you: TWO episodes left. By the way, I feel like there’s still a few loose ends to tie up isn’t there? 👀

Tyler Stobbe

I’m so worried about how this season will end since we seemingly only have two episodes left. Can we check back with Bakugo please?! This episode had me so stressed cause of whatever the hell All Might is doing and the whole Todoroki family situation. I seriously thought Endeavor was going to die, then Rei showed up, then Fuyumi & Natsu, and Shoto, and then it couldn’t stop 😭 The music during the Dabi encounter was so beautiful! and we got Death Arms back! Him being one of the first heroes to see Deku run into danger and now he’s been inspired by Deku is such a beautiful full circle moment.

Cody

Yeah, um... Next episode isn't going to be a break on the emotional train.

crazizzle85

Yeah, the movie references were in the manga except for the fourth movie since it didn't exist yet.

Hi Hime :) I will repeat what I said on Sunday. Since the season continue to RISE THE HEAT, the studio need to COOL DOWN with ALL their MIGHT. I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty proud of myself for hiding what was going to happen in the episode without it being seen hehe First for All Might, there is the famous I AM HERE that makes its return, but I want to point out something else too, after his fight against AfO he had pointed his finger saying "Next, it's your turn", meaning to Izuku that he is the next to fight. AfO had taken up this "Next, it's your turn" when Izuku was in vigilante mode with Endeavor, Best Jeanist and Hawks, to make fun of All Might being powerless, to scare and enrage Izuku. But now, All Might says "Now, it's my turn", turning that phrase around once again and making a full circle. All Might, quirkless, is ready to fight, because his flame has been rekindled by two people, Izuku and Stain, two people who have been greatly inspired by All Might, who reminded him that he is a hero, before being "All Might". Message that overlaps with Bare Handeath, a hero who abandoned his post after everything that happened, but whose body reacted on its own to protect civilians. It's also for this kind of thing that we like MHA after all ^^. Now, for the Todoroki family, not much to add, the episode delivers its message well and allows a conclusion to this family drama where the whole family will be able to move forward on a new basis. I would just add a little analysis, Endeavor and Dabi are both with flame powers only (until this episode at least), two characters eaten away by anger, hatred and jealousy (a fire ravaging everything in its path). Rei, Natsuo and Fuyumi all reacted differently, Rei broke mentally because of the pressure and after attacking Shoto because his eyes were the reflection of Endeavor. Fuyumi tried to let all that slide to keep the family in one block and Natsuo, he remained frozen in the past having difficulty moving forward. Three behaviors, broken, which lets it slide and frozen, which corresponds to the ice. As for Shoto, he was initially ravaged by hatred too, but rather than a destructive rage of what surrounds him, it was rather a cold one that repels anyone who approaches him, until Izuku lights his flame and allows him to understand that he is more than ice and that his fire is personal. Of course, everything fits into what I'm trying to say and I may be forcing it a bit, but we really have a reaction from each person in relation to their power here. Even Toya, who is ravaged by hatred, being frozen in his past, ends up developing his mother's ice power. Also, now that you've seen this, and without any real spoilers, I can already tell you that they will have physical marks due to the burns. I had already said that I liked the fact that Horikoshi doesn't hurt his characters and acts afterwards as if nothing happened, it's still the case here. But in a way, it will bring everyone together, since it won't just be Shoto who will be scarred for life, the family will have been touched by the flames of hatred and will have come out scarred, but come out all the same. Can we also applaud Tetsu Inada, the VA of Endeavor, because he managed to convey his emotions well during his apologies and it was really touching. For the next episode, it seems to be the one I least expect to see adapted while being the one I expect the most, I'm already preparing to cry so prepare yourself too just in case.
