Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to the eighth/second OVA in this long-awaited series!!! OMG how could I forget Kakyoin lol!!! D'oh!!! This was really good, there were a few changes but honestly somehow I think this one portrays Jotaro in a slightly more flattering light? Like he doesn't seem as aggressive towards women so far lol. No painting in this one, and we get a fangirl instead of a nurse being possessed. Something about the forest fight actually hit kinda hard! This was a great intro to Kakyoin, everyone/thing looked really good. And now we're off to the races to save Holly!!! So the NEXT one is Tower of Grey, sorry guys :P Good stuff - enjoy! ~ MH

He really is! And they did a good job with it right? I thought it all looked great! Yeah I hear you, it's hard to tell if we just know the outcome and that "softens" his character a bit, or if he truly is coming off a bit less aggressive here. I know, he's such a tsundere! Oh thank you!!! It bugged me for a long time before someone explained it haha! YES let's go catch a fly!!! XD

His abilities were downright scary here. 👻 I can’t tell if me seeing Jotaro’s growth has me seeing him in a more flattering light cuz now that I understand him a bit I can see he was his sort of nice in his own way. Or if this version really had done wonders for him. Either way it’s great to see him in his usual tough guy act, acting like he doesn’t give a hoot. The big softy. Oh that’s a very good explanation for the the drawing voodoo thing! I didn’t think about that. 🎨 👩🎨 I think I know who may have been lurking at the end there. Can’t wait. Alright let’s go catch this fly 🪰

Hahahaha yes having the reveal in private takes away from the public camera smash :P Right, most of it is the same except for the tone and a few other tweaks. I kinda like Jotaro being less of a jerk but I miss him being a mama's boy :) OMG thank you for clearing that up, I was so sure it was Avdol who did the fly reveal!! I didn't remember that about Avdol burning Dio though, good call. Exactly, it's mostly just details. But yeah, it's fun to speculate on why the changes were made!!!

2024-09-03 14:24:01 +0000 UTCI'm glad you agree that they toned him down a bit!! But I can see how overall it's a bit more toned down too. Interesting thoughts on Kakyoin too. Lol I can probably just intro during their intro I guess, at least partially :P Ok cool, glad I remembered that right about the plane! There are a few really standout ones in Part 1, Centerfold/J Geil definitely needs to be in there cause it's such a big one for Polnareff!! So there's a theory that any Hamon users get those vines as their stands; that's why when we briefly see Jonathan's (when Dio is using it) it's the same as Hermit Purple. So it makes sense that Holly would get a vine Stand, but the fact that Jolyne kinda has that too is just amazing and I love the callback! I've always said she's Joseph-esque! ^_^ I hear you about the VA. Hahahah "starting to"??? I think we're waaayyy past that :P

2024-09-03 14:21:40 +0000 UTCHi Hime :) It's been a while since I've seen the OVAs, so I was surprised to see the Phantom Blood flashbacks, because I didn't remember them being there at all. But other than that, yes it follows the story pretty well, some changes here and there, like the revelation of DIO's story and the star being at Holy and not in a public space, which also prevents Joseph from looking like a madman by breaking a camera in front of everyone lol. As I said, the main difference is the much more serious tone here, the lack of time, makes some scenes "merge" to save space, others jump, but it can take away a bit of characterization in the process. You said it yourself, Jotaro is less of a jerk with the girls here, in the same way we don't have the clingy aspect of Holy towards Jotaro, we get straight to the point and I can find that a bit of a shame. For the fly for example, here it's the speedwagon foundation that sends a fax and Kakyoin who reads it, while originally it's Avdol who does his research in the library and stumbles upon Holy on the ground, there's a more dramatic and sudden aspect that we don't necessarily find here, even though the tone is more serious. Similarly, it's Avdol who burns DIO's flesh with Magician Red instead of Joseph using his hamon. Even if the choice is right, I don't know if it was wise knowing that we know that Joseph practices hamon in the old OVAs, so it's not new. But it's true that all these points are just details in the end, it doesn't change much in the story as a whole, it's just that when you're a fan, you ask yourself the question "why".

2024-09-03 12:08:26 +0000 UTCIt does seem like Jotaro is a bit less standoffish in this version than the anime, but I still feel like after watching this, it still feels to me the VAs are really just reading the script and there doesn’t feel like a whole lot of emotional emphasis. It’s interesting that they replaced the nurse’s office with a forest battle, and if I recall, Kakyoin’s attack seemed a lot more deliberate in the anime, here he’s just kind of “oh guess I should stop what I’m doing and fight you cause the plot requires it.” He looks cool enough. By the way if they’re going to just play this intro every single time you might as well start it while you’re introing, you probably could cut down on your video time that way. You are correct in recalling last time it was a commercial plane for Tower of Grey - of course there was a lot more going on. As far as what kind of OVA stories we get, I’m pretty sure at some point we’ll have to co er the whole Polnareff / Hol Horse / Avdol / revenge arc (I am blanking on Enya’s son’s name at the moment.) You also mentioned Holly’s stand was vine-ish, now that I think about it could that be a prelude to Stone Free on top of Hermit Purple? Hmmmm…. The art’s good enough, I just find the voice performances lacking so far. By the way you referring to DIO’s hair movements as a Disney Prince look has caused the doctor to suggest you get cut off for a while. You’re starting to get a little too obsessed apparently…. 👀😅
