Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to episode 16 of The Apothecary Diaries! I had SO much fun with this one!! It was like an escape room with all the clues lol! The overall message was kinda heartwarming and it was another great example of just how clever Maomao is. I love that they're really using her potential for detective work! Also, I'm really starting to get suspicious of Lakan!!! Can't wait for more! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

Yeah sometimes I get a little too red string lol. I love the analogy of the three sons! He is sort of a puppet master, it seems. Yeah I know, it's probably super common and normalized, and it crossed my mind that maybe he's trying to play a "character" for a reason or something. I'm sure the layers are immeasurable!! Hahahaha well I mean, Maomao's pretty good at doing her freckles soooo...guess we should hope for the best??

He is giving some Gaoshun vibes lol. Ok good, I'm glad it's not just me when it comes to Lakan lol. He seems like he's definitely into puppeteering things from afar. He always keeps a distance when he's getting involved, doesn't he! I can't wait to see the next two!!! OMG jumpscare!! Hahah you know how I love to pause!!! Thanks for the heads up!!

Yay, I'm so happy you could enjoy me figuring it out!!! I had a feeling maybe I was onto something with Lakan, but that there's probably so much more to it! I can't wait to know more!!! I love all the Maomao and Jinshi scenes so much!! Hehehe it's so cute watching him be like "whatchya doooing" heheh! I LOVE the welcome back scene, omg! Jinshi was so sure he was dreaming wasn't he lol! I can't wait for the makeup scenes, yay!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA yes!!!!! You were totally there!!!! 2024-08-31 20:19:02 +0000 UTCHey Melissa, I'm glad to see that you liked Maomao's two detective cases in these two episodes. I also found them very exciting. Unfortunately, I wasn't as smart as you and it took me a long time to understand what the solution to the mystery was in episode 16. I'm very proud of you for figuring it out so quickly and it was a real pleasure to watch you figure it out for yourself. We've also seen more of Lakhan in these episodes. And your assumptions about him being a very strange character are true. He definitely gives off creepy vibes. And if you don't have any other information about him, you can judge him very quickly. Your theories about him aren't particularly wrong. But they're not one hundred percent right either. It's a bit in between. You'll find out more about him in the next few episodes and also understand the true meaning behind the two mysteries in these episodes. Because in Apothecary Diaries, no detective mission happens without a greater meaning behind it. The scenes between Maomao and Jinshi were also super cute again in these two episodes. Jinshi tries really hard to get as much attention as possible from his favorite apothecary. Even though he clearly gets on her nerves. And also stops her from eating her beloved poison. The scene where Maomao says welcome back to him is so funny really. He probably can't believe that this has just happened and has to bang his head against the wall to reassure himself that it wasn't a dream. Next episode, we'll see exactly what Maomao plans to do with Jinshi's make-up. It's actually going to be a really sweet episode. I'm looking forward to watching it with you next week. PS, I was there when the Vinland Saga poster fell off. That was seriously one of the funniest moments in your reaction. It made me laugh so hard and I must have watched that scene five times in a row.

2024-08-29 09:49:16 +0000 UTC“This mystery seems like it was too easy to solve, there must be more to it - right?” Me: As I was saying before, while the show does indeed give you credit for having a discerning eye, there are some cases where you have to step back a little so you don’t outthink the room. Keep in mind sometimes information in this show is also presented by what isn’t relayed as much as what is. One thing to keep in mind here constantly is how much of the picture does everyone have? The metalworks case is a good analogy for this, as none of the three sons had the full picture - the pieces didn’t fit without all three of them being used in the proper fashion. Also these guys thinking they can keep Maomao on a leash really haven’t been paying attention. Regarding Lakan, he’s at this point, an enigma. He’s referred to as a strategist by some pretty smart people in charge, and he’s clearly holding a position of some import. Just as Maomao is adept at following bread crumbs, Lakan is someone who likes to be a bit of a puppet master when a scenario interests him. As for his “forcing” comment, keep in mind that this sort of banter was probably very commonplace in this time period. Does he mean it, or is he trying to blend in? All I’m going to tell you is he’s a very layered character and you should probably let marinate a while longer. Meanwhile, Jinshi needs Maomao to work on his makeup? You do BBC realize this has a chance to go… very poorly, right? 😅

2024-08-29 04:21:27 +0000 UTCHi Hime :) Oh my, I would like to say so much, but it would take away a lot of the pleasure of seeing your reaction afterwards lol. The only thing to remember is that Basen, who is indeed the one with whom Jinshi trained, looks like Gaoshun for Maomao, and not just for the outfit, but for the facial and body expressions too as we can see in episode 16 with the lil chibi sigh. Concerning Lakan, the series does everything to make him as creepy and detestable and everyone has been there, don't worry ^^. But yes, he is a strategist as Jinshi said, so manipulating people, facts and giving clues discreetly is his job (but it also seems to be his personality). He is someone very intelligent, but who does not like to get his hands dirty or be mixed up in stories, he prefers to stay in the shadows. An example, the firsts episodes of this new arc, when the reserve exploded and Lihaku was investigating. We briefly see Lakan inspecting the place and when someone ask him what's there, he says there's nothing, but he had noticed the presence of the pipe. This implies two possibilities, either he is involved in it, or just like Maomao he guessed the origin of the incident, but prefers not to say anything so as not to be mixed up in this story. But yes, the next two episodes are going to be very interesting to see you react, I can only tell you that. Well yes, there is a little "jumpscare" moment in the 18th and I think that no one will blame you if you pause and try to see the image in question, because it is worth it, so you are warned.
