Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to the fourth OVA in this long-awaited series!!! WHOA!!!!! This is where it all gets SO DIFFERENT!! The Avdol part really really freaked me out! Iggy was way worse somehow too :( And their little moment together before everything happened :(((( The stairs happened, but this time to Jotaro! Also Kakyoin showed up like a mother freaking BOSS here!!!!! It was so amazing!!! I gotta say, they threw me through a loop with this one, in a good way! I'm really excited to see what the rest of the fight looks like!!! Good stuff - enjoy! ~ MH

2024-08-22 13:58:29 +0000 UTCOkay I REALLY LOVE THIS ONE! I gotta say there are certain things I rather enjoyed more so. I enjoyed what was done with Avdol in this one. I think besides Joseph, Avdol was one who Iggy didn’t have any kind of problem with or never showed much sass towards. He already knew how Iggy worked so it was really touching seeing that moment highlight what a kind man Avdol is. I think that moment was a switch up of Avdol promising to take Polnareff to a restaurant once out. And Polnareff being snarky or Okuyasu-ish in moments was the OVA’s foreshortening the development of their bond so we still get a good sense of regret when Avdol makes that sacrifice. And what a sacrifice that was! That was terrifying. Just a really daunting surprise when you see it’s him in it. There was no holding back from DIO in that but then again there was no holding back from Avdol in that scene as well— from when he’s using Magician’s Red to saving his friend. And I have to say in a way I prefer this one for a few reasons. I like that everyone (minus Kakyoin) is present for DIO’s debut. I didn’t know until now how much I wished it was like that to begin with. They all fighting their own battles but traveling all over it would have been cool to see them all meet face-to-face like this before anything. The opening of the coffin was haunting. I liked this one a smidge more even though it was merciless and brutal to see Avdol go like that. It was abrupt yes, I think both versions were but differently. In the newer version, Avdol is in the battle longer per se. He’s there to aid but when pushing Polnareff to save his life he’s immediately gone. I couldn’t believe it. I saw his arms and was waiting for that Jojo effect— the “okay where’s the trick? Where are you hiding Avdol? Come on out with no arms but still fighting before you go!” I just could not believe he was gone until I saw him and Iggy ascending. Here he’s really highlighted by his actions in his final moment. And as quick and cruel as that death was it was such a way to go out. And yet it did favors for his character, not to mention it just added to the already terrifying atmosphere. But it really showed what a good man he was above all. 🔥 Iggy’s death I did not see it being that harsh. That hurt. It hurt so much. Again another foreshortening of the relationship between the two characters but they did a really good job with it. I’m telling you early anime did not hold back. They may not have gotten the cool/glam shots like most series today but they never held back from darkness and violence. I will hold that hug dear to my heart. 🥺 I definitely dug Kakyoin’s entrance. That’s a huge plus here that was added. You know he got to see him showing off his mad video gamer skills but in the back of my mind I kind of already knew he’d likely fall prey and Jotaro would likely get to shine again. So here to see him go full on and save Joesph from DIO was something special. He’s a character I notice that in the fandom will draw him in their fan work as if he’s still living. Rightfully so as he’s one that was taken so young 😔 I loved that his entrance incorporated his setup like it was when DIO sealed the finishing blow. Except here he’s using it to full use. He came in, kicked up and exited out and looked good doing it while saving our beloved Joestar. 🕶️ 🍒 I keep saying it but man I wish so badly that a full classic version was made. They took responsible liberties when many things but they definitely didn’t disappoint not even a little. If I had watched this version first I would not have been bored. The changes benefitted the story and gave a lot about the characters personalities which held true to the series we watched. It’s like the Jojo movie that adapted part four. It removed a lot about the line, the stands but it did wonders for Josuke the person and not just a Joestar but his own person. Really cool stuff. 11/10 but I really find it phenomenal. And please tell me the deets about that Avdol and Iggy non canon story 👂

2024-08-22 13:55:59 +0000 UTCHAHAHAHA!!! Too soon :P This was def the most different one so far. I do remember Dio possibly being shirtless in the stair scene....I actually can't remember exactly when he put his clothes on lol. I know it was before he comes out at night an forces the senator to drive him around. I hear you, it's REALLY hard to readjust to a VA change like that! Avdol totally got a Whedon death here. And Kakyoin was such a boss!!! That scene was such a death flag but I loved it!! Also yeah, no Pet Shop here so he wasn't a tripod pup! Vanilla Ice beating him up was SO much worse in the anime but the fact that he was still kicking him after he cut him in half here somehow balances it out :( Aww thanks, I appreciate the compliments, I'm glad I was able to stay coherent for these reactions haha! Also feel better!!

Haha sounds like they're pretty legendary! That's true, like things are different but ultimately it's the same thing too. Oof.....thanks for the warning! I'll mentally prep myself haha!

2024-08-21 15:40:04 +0000 UTCHi Hime :) To continue the discussion on OAVs, it is true that nowadays we have less of them, because the advantages they offered are no longer. The advantages were in relation to censorship and duration, most AOVs exceed the 20 minutes of a classic episode. But now, with online availability and streaming services, you have the same benefits without the need for a physical release. Series like Devilman Crybaby on Netflix or other series, are heirs to this mindset. But many big names and cult series were born like that, the Gainax studio (where many of the founders of the Trigger studio started), saw its success take off with the Gunbuster OAV series and the famous "gainax bounce" (the bouncing breasts), up to FLCL in 2000, a real gem of animation, which still holds its own today. But hey, to get back to Jojo, yes there are changes like Avdol in the coffin or Jotaro and the stairs, but generally speaking, we have the coffin and stairs scene. I mean, we have these cult passages, even altered, it remains present and just as striking as in the manga. So it's a nice rewrite of those scenes with the limitations and lore of the OVAs. A little warning also for the next ones, we have already mentioned the fact that the OAVs spare nothing, I just remind you that there is a scene where DIO forces a politician to drive his car on the sidewalk full of passers-by... So yes, be ready.

2024-08-20 11:32:40 +0000 UTCYou feeling okay, you seem to be coffin a lot this week? … too soon? 👀 I feel like this one might be the most diverse from the newer version - there was a lot more “deleted scene” footage basically due to the fact there wasn’t time to cover it. DIO if I remember right, fought shirtless in the battle for a while - but I might have that wrong and just have that one particular shot in my head. The voice - it’s kinda the same feeling I had about Caboose - this one isn’t adding up, and it’s not really the VA’s fault at all but when you have an iconic sound - people have a hard time changing. Obviously you went over the Kakyoin return and I do think you’re right, it’s a much bigger boss move. Avdol’s death is a lot more sudden, like it was out of a Whedon script. I suppose that makes it more effective. The biggest change is probably with Iggy, first with the extra scene with Avdol (which we will immediately add to the list on Death Flags 101 course), and the fact he still has all four paws for most of the episode (remember Pet Shop forced him to chew one off and it caused him some issues). Also, Vanilla Ice doesn’t beat up on him nearly as long in this version - the anime drew that out for a good 30-60 seconds. Makes you wonder what else they’ll put in that the newer version did t have time for. That’s next week though, and I gotta go swallow more medicine. My brain doesn’t do as well when it’s not feeling great, you’re a trooper for doing all this under the weather, btw!
