Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to episode 8 of The Apothecary Diaries! Oh dang, Maomao just can't get away from the mysteries and adventures, can she?! She's been home for all of 10 minutes and here we go again! It was so cool to see her work alongside her dad, and it's hard to imagine someone quicker on the uptake than Maomao! The actual plot was once again not black and white. And this really got me thinking about women's role in general during this period. Also, I think she may have killed Jinshi at the end there lol!!! Phrasing is everything!!! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

Hi Spadeas! :) Omg yes, she's totally us! Poor Gaoshun haha. I can't wait to know more about her past, wow! Oh, that's a good point! They definitely have to get their power more subtly, and that forces them to be even more clever. They are the poison :O

She just really craves putting all the pieces together. Oof, that's a lot of debt! Hahahaha I love how Gyokuyou is using this as her own personal soap opera! And yeah, Maomao is pretty clueless for someone so smart! Poor Jinshi :P

2024-08-01 11:12:26 +0000 UTCAs you can see from this episode, Maomao has spent a lot of her time learning from her dad. She’s very intelligent and clever, but this episode shows that she’s not perfect - nobody is, to be fair. The whole murder mystery scene actually feels like it took parts out of several crime dramas (not that that’s a bad thing), but it’s definitely a trope where the obvious answer hardly ever comes back to be the right one. Maomao says she shouldn’t speak on conjecture, and then she immediately does so. The girl can’t help it, she even says it herself - once I start doubting there’s no stopping. I think we all know how that can feel. She just has an insatiable need to solve these puzzles that keep getting thrown at her. It also looks like her little ruse with Lihaku has landed her in a pile of debt with Grams - swell, now she’s got THAT to worry about . She has so much on her plate that when it comes to Jinshi, she’s pretty much oblivious. She doesn’t even realize, as Jinshi points out, the true meaning of the hairpins. Gyokuyou does, and she’s fully aware of the joke. In fact you might say she’s super WAKU WAKU about it. Hopefully you have a night of blissful dreams. Error: Jinshi.exe has stopped working. 😅

2024-08-01 04:08:23 +0000 UTCHi Hime :) Lady Gyokuyou represents us, she enjoys seeing Jinshi trying to seduce Maomao and Maomao unknowingly making him run around in circles. Gaoshun is alone in his corner despairing of seeing this spectacle lol. Oh there's a lot more behind Maomao's past, the rear palace and what Meimei says about the annex, only all of that won't really be cleared up until the very end of this season, so be patient, because there's a lot to swallow (but here, it's a sweet poison hehe). One thing to consider now that I'm rewatching this series with you is that even though men are in power, women are not without it. They are intelligent and strong enough to overcome their obstacles. Whether it's with poisons, or their charms, but as Maomao says, they themselves become poisons after all.
