My Hero Academia 7x05 "Let You Down" - reaction & review

Google Drive Link in description below!

Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to MHA season 7, episode 5!!! OMG!!!!! The ending just stole the show here, it even threw me through a loop for a second!!!! But DANG, Aoyama did so well!!!!!!!!! So proud of our sparkly king!!! I also loved the great character moments we got between Izuku and Uraraka, Shoto/Iida/Bakugo, etc.! The stuff with Toga was actually kinda sad, I really do feel for her. And there was even a sighting of Eri and Kota!!!! Here's where things start getting really real! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

I hate it as well but you have to us to admit that AFO saying “anyone can become someone’s hero” is a great bit of twisted writing from the creator with how becoming a hero for someone else is a big theme in the series. It’s crazy that there were even more spies than just Aoyama within the civilians staying in UA but it makes a lot of sense & man AFO’s plan to take this safe place away from Izuku is sick. It sucks that the kids are so busy & exhausted they can’t really talk especially for Izuku wanting to thank Uraraka for her brave & emotionally vulnerable defense of him last season. Also I saw a comment making a bad joke that when Mineta mentioned talking about dirty stuff Izuku looked at 2 of the girls & my reaction was I hate that joke but it did get a little laugh out of me so I guess it was a good joke. I thought the spy was breaking out because what the heroes were doing was messing up their plans unfortunately he thinks it helps the villains thankfully the heroes have a secret plan. I love all the snapshots of moments between characters as the heroes leave UA especially because they were very sweet moments of parents saying goodbye worrying but supporting their kids. My 2 favorite snapshots being Eri & Kota fussing over Izuku which is so damn cute (I really want to see the interactions of all the different combinations of those characters at the end of story so bad) & the Wolverine girl who Izuku saved who then was 1 of the people who stood up for him last season and Ojiro because of them both being heteromorphs who I’m just guessing didn’t let discrimination change them or turn them into criminals. I don’t know what Cementoss was being paid before but it wasn’t enough and he deserves a lot of money after the war is over for all the construction he does for the heroes in my opinion LOL. I love the conversation between Deku & Uraraka because it just really shows off their empathy, emotional intelligence as well as all around intelligence. Their relationship is very cute with how she acts flustered & how he was ready with the compliments.

Yeah Dabi's anything but dumb, the blood thing is sooo bad! For real, like every time they remind us she could use his quirk it's just a big oh crap moment lol. That's a good call about maybe interacting with her own quirk too. That'd be crazy if they all had their own personalities and ended up turning on her! The Shigaraki situation is so freaky, you can tell Spinner is really worried too. I know, it's a sad fact of humanity that there's still bigotry even so far ahead in the future in this world. I can see why Spinner is an inspiration/leader for this cause for sure. It's so true that he ended up here but doesn't even realize the situation/manipulation around it, although he might be starting to sense something's really off with AFO. Then again, you're right that he'll probably just sort of continue to shut it out. It's tragic that he cares about Shigaraki, and now he's ended up like this. Just another example of how good the writing on this show is!

And then we get to 1 of the scariest new reveals that the heroes don’t know about that Dabi because he’s not stupid got some of Twice’s blood after he was killed which means she can use 1 of the most dangerous quirks as long as her time limit lasts & since we don’t know how much of the blood they have who knows how long her time limit will be & all anyone can really say watching is “that’s bad/oh no”. She can make any villains/heroes she knows well enough with the Twice clones & unless it interacts with her own quirk she doesn’t even need to love the characters the clones create for them to use their powers. Maybe she would just create a bunch of Uraraka’s & Izuku’s although maybe not since the copies have the personalities as the original so they would probably fight against her. It’s really sad to hear how Spinner’s voice breaks as he worries about the state Shigaraki is in. Whatever is going on with Shigaraki is really disturbing & since AFO says it’s overcoming the doomsday theory he’s basically saying that even though Shigaraki’s quirk should be evolving/going out of his control he is still able to control his powers. It’s sad that even in the MHA world that is in the future & has superheroes there is still discrimination & it has caused a community of people in the heteromorphs to feel like they are on the outside of society & many of them tight against that society & I think the saddest part is that people tried to make things better for them but it wasn’t enough. And with this information it makes a lot of sense that Spinner is having this plot line of being an inspiration & a makeshift leader of the heteromorphs with the discrimination he himself suffered as well as I assume possibly them seeing him as fighting for them. And it’s interesting to see someone who never really had a dream for himself is now in this leadership position especially when it is obvious how he has become disillusioned with things & is very much not for what’s been happening. And it’s also interesting to see the theme of things having gone too far to be stopped at this point being shown through Spinner with how he’s just shutting down not wanting to think about things because he actually doesn’t like what is going on but feels one person wouldn’t really change things. And the saddest part of this is how his goal had become to help & support Shigaraki & that goal just seems to get more & more out of reach with how Shigaraki doesn’t even seem like himself & AFO has basically taken over especially with how much Spinner came to like and respect Shigaraki.

Omg I know, the Toga stuff is pretty tragic! It does seem like the house became some kind of "haunted" attraction or something. Lol I agree, I don't condone people being intrusive and mean, but the parents really messed up, so both parties aren't doing great in this case lol. That's true, technically we don't know she physically needs blood to survive, but at the least, her quirk is very reliant on blood and so that really does make it a physical issue. Her parents handling this better could have made the outcome so drastically different, I totally get holding them responsible. I mean, even if they didn't love that she was craving blood, there's so many ways to handle it other than telling her she was bad and to stop. That really didn't help things at all. Yeah I didn't even realize the self-harm implications until people started telling me in the comments, but that's really disturbing. I actually thought this was kind of a nice moment between the two of them too, which is so weird when we're dealing with people we're usually hoping won't hurt our crew, but yet like the friendship is real lol. I think you might be right that he was lying when he said that to Hawks. If there's one thing we've learned about all the villains, it's that they're not really cut-and-dry bad people, or at least that's not their whole story. The only one who seems pretty blatantly evil is AFO.

I love this episode so much for the character stuff. It was so heavy & dark to see what became of Toga’s childhood home especially the words people wrote on the walls which were just vile. It looks like after her parents left it became abandoned & people who hated her for something she couldn’t help as well as the awful thing she did when she finally snapped left the hateful words and for others it might have become some twisted form of a test of courage like kids saying “look it’s the vampire’s house” or stuff like that which is messed up. From what we see the stuff that was written looks like it started on the outside of the home probably while her parents still lived there & while I usually don’t like people being treated like that I have to say it couldn’t have happened to nicer people (sarcasm) because while we haven’t literally had a moment of a doctor saying that Toga needs blood for nutrition but it’s something I think we can safely assume that it’s true knowing how quirks can change someone’s body so because her parents were starving Toga physically & mentally I think her parents are very much to blame for what happened to their daughter psychologically & at least I believe culpable for her crimes at least partially. Things could have been so different for Toga if her parents had even tried to help her learn to manage her needs & didn’t just ignore it or treat it as something wrong & it doesn’t surprise me that people like that would abandon their home & any responsibility. Toga’s flashback about her dream of becoming a bird is legitimately unsettling because of how it reflects the self-harm she was inflicting because she needed blood from somewhere before she started taking it from others & sadly the only place it could really come from herself. And this is a head canon I recently saw but maybe going after small animals as well when she was desperate enough. I love what Toya did for Toga here by destroying the source of her suffering & even though he says he’s just kind because it makes it easier to achieve his desires but it’s very clear to me at least that he didn’t have to do this & I think it shows that he was at least partially lying when he told Hawks he didn’t care about the rest of the League of Villains after Twice died. Because while obviously there is a lot of self serving reasons for the things he does based on some of his actions it can’t be just that he completely doesn’t care for the others.

Right?! This season is really hitting the ground running! I know, it would've been nice to have even more. OMG the blood thing is terrible right?! For real!!!

Melissa Moore

Really surprised me with the ending, only 5 episodes in and we’re already getting into the fight! Seeing everyone say goodbye was nice, I wish we got more from it than just still frames though. And now we’ve got Toga to really worry about since Dabi apparently got Twice’s blood! That’ll shake things up given the recent episode.

Cody

Yeah I think so too, and tbh, it does give kind of a deeper perspective. Ooooohh was that a reference to unaliving one's self?! I didn't catch that, I thought it was about the blood.....yikes!! HAHAHA the plant totally looked like an older Mob! Good call about Izuku and Uraraka, I think they can both really relate to some of the things they're starting to feel/realize about the villains around them. It really does add some dimension to show the more human side of villains, as opposed to them just being evil one day and never looking back. Ohhhh that makes even more sense about the soba then haha. LOL everything Bakugo does looks harsh :P HAHAHAHAHAH you know Rohan plays that on a loop XD XD XD But yeah, fitting title :P I mean, the only thing I can think of is that somehow they weren't aware they were deceiving him?! But Aoyama seemed to know what he was doing during that end scene, so I'm not sure. Oh yeah, Twice's blood is a really bad thing to come back into play, because she can use his Quirk using it. Which means she can make herself into a whole army of....copy copies?? I'm sure it'll all work out right :P

Melissa Moore

Hey Leonie!! The villains are so well done, I agree! I know, they're a lot quicker to forgive than I am too! OMG I was like really Shoto?! Like I had no idea the plan was to try and um, bring him back to everyday society.....! He was so convincing right?! Oooohhh I'm dying to know how they got around it, but I'll wait to they explain it on the show!!! Good for you for figuring it out! Aww I agree, those two are cute! OMG thank you for the links!!! The first one is so cute, wow that song is perfect too!!!! And the second one too, awwwwwwww hahaha!!! They're so sweet!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!! ^_^

Melissa Moore

Hi Spadeas! :) You were right! Uraraka is totally the heart!!! She's so loveable :D

Melissa Moore

I believe they’re showing Toga’s house at the start to give the audience a greater concept of what she grew up dealing with - it seems like it not only affected her, but her whole family was basically rejected because of her behavior. She talks about the red sparrow pecking into her, and turning her red and beautiful - the translation I got from that was “when I dream about killing myself it makes me happy.” That’s rather dark…. Apparently AFO has plants at the fortress, including a adult Mob-lookalike knockoff - gee I wonder if this comes into play later. Deku and Uraraka are both dealing with something - they know what needs to be done with both of their counterparts - but they’re also troubled because they’ve learned a few things that makes them think “I see how you got this way, even if I don’t agree with what you did.” The word you’re looking for I think is empathy. It’s dangerous, but I also think it’s better to create a villain that has some understandable motives than - oh look that person is evil just for the sake of the plot. (There’s room for that in some other shows, of course.) If I recall I think Shoto likes cold soba which is why Bakugo suggested hot udon as a counterpoint. Also Bakugo’s goodbye looked a bit harsh. 😂 All For One’s background music is back! Should we rename this track “Skin Crawl?” (Rohan is probably listening to it while having tea lol). AFO said the reason nobody can deceive him is because of a Quirk he has - it detects lies and ill will - which explains how he’s been so elusive - you literally can’t pull a fast one on him - so how did he get tricked, that’s what I’d like to know. I wonder if Aoyama and his parents seriously didn’t know what was happening or they just only reported facts to him… it’s all speculation. At this point though, speculation seems to be about to take a back seat… although I am a little concerned about what Twice’s blood is going to be used for… 👀 Everything’s probably FINE….

Hey Melissa, this was another very good episode of My Hero Academia. I have to admit that the Villains in this anime are really very cool written. With a backstory that is really moving. But I don't think that if I were in the Heroes' shoes, I could forgive these people. I thought it was funny when Shoto said he was going to eat udon noodles with Dabi because I was like, that's your brother who killed so many people. I don't think you'd want to sit at the same table with him. I was also convinced for a millisecond that Aoyama had betrayed the Heroes again, but that was a very good plot twist that he tricked All for One at the end. At first I wondered how he managed that, because All for One actually explained in detail why he doesn't fall for lies. And then it occurred to me ... I remembered how to get around it. And that will be explained next episode too. But I'm so proud of myself that I figured it out myself. I thought the scene with Deku and Ochako was really cute. I really love those two. That's one of the few ships I would support from this anime. I found a very nice fan animation video on Instagram, which of course I don't want to withhold from you. The channel makes really great animation videos of My Hero Academia and I've been following it for a long time. https://www.instagram.com/p/C7wm5a4MHd6/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.instagram.com%2Faccounts%2Fonetap%2F%3Fnext%3D%252F https://www.instagram.com/p/B_NIgBFp2Oe/?next=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.instagram.com%2Faccounts%2Fonetap%2F%3Fnext%3D%252F

Hi Hime :) I warned you that we were entering the starting blocks, the war is finally going to begin and is not ready to end for a while (as I said, it only ended recently in the manga). But to talk about something else, I want to repeat myself again, but Uraraka is the heart of this series, in the literal sense, not the main character, but the character with the most empathy in the series and that that's why I love her.
