Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to the first ep of the Rohan live action series! Honestly, I kinda loved it!!!! I can't remember exactly how the original story went but what they did here worked well. Rohan's actor NAILED IT and I love the actress who played his editor too! I think she may have been even more likeable here, due to the more fleshed out backstory! Plus, there's a doggie!!!! As much as I'd love to see actual Heaven's Door, the effect here still did the job nicely. Overall I'm a fan!!!! I'd like to see more!!! Enjoy! ~ MH

Thanks for the technical note, I'll keep that in mind! I'd also recommend again that if content is feeling overwhelming, please don't feel obligated to watch it all at once - after all it is here to entertain you, there's no obligation to binge-watch if you don't want to :) That's so weird about Amazon, I'll check again! It'd be nice to be able to watch it without the ads! I've seen the title both ways since they typically try to localize it when they sub it in English/release it in the States, but yeah, L/N / F/N is how it's said in Japanese. They were all flashbacks in the OVAs but I get not doing that here, since you'd have to introduce characters from Part 4 that a general audience might not know. Over the top is a good way to describe him haha. Also Rohan being Araki's self-insert has been long assumed by many in the fandom so I think you're onto something there haha. Hahahha I'm flattered you think I'm like the editor!!! If I had no knowledge of Rohan beforehand then yes, I could see it going this way.....otherwise, I think there might be some fangirling :P Ok thank you, I knew the mistakes were a bit different and that she wasn't warned!! Thanks for the yen translation, that's super cheap!!! Oh, the dog....!!!! I love seeing dogs, but never in Jojo :P LOL!!!!! Aqua would kill the role for sure! Yeah not translating the written part makes it a bit confusing. I did pick up on what he wrote at the end, but I actually took it as he was writing that to make her forget all the other stuff that happened....maybe I misinterpreted it? Hahahahaha he's scheming for sure!!! Yeah, he's looking out for that thief fan!!!

I think you're right, they did a good job of capturing the look, sound, ambience, etc. of Jojo. So glad you agree that they really made the most of the effects even on a limited budget. Ooooh yes I know just who you mean ;) I can't wait either!!! I'm glad to hear you'd like 2 eps a week!!! Thanks so much for the feedback ^_^

When we suddenly see the little top-hatted figure next to him after his introductory art, and people don't need to look at his manga anymore for him to use it, I just assumed he'd evolved like Koichi or something. So he traces Heaven's Door in the air every time he wants to use it?! How did I not know this lol. That's amazing!

2024-06-04 11:30:52 +0000 UTCHello Melissa, to my surprise, I really enjoyed the first episode of the Rohan Live Action OVAs. All the actors did a great job playing their characters. The actor playing Rohan especially impressed me. Since I've read the manga, I can assure you that the anime stayed very true to the manga, and the live-action adaptation introduced many new aspects. I particularly liked the opening scene with the robbers. The outfits were very fitting for Jojo, and the very cool music created a truly "bizarre" feeling. I knew the series didn't have a huge budget, but the CGI effects still looked very good. I'm definitely looking forward to more episodes and am especially excited about one particular person (I think you know who I mean).😘 P.S I hope you will do 2 Episodes per week. I can't wait for more ❤️

However, for the sanity of your subscriber base, I would implore you to limit it to doing just ONE episode a week, since they’re already almost an hour long and… you basically run a podcast now before and after . :P Two would really be overkill. -You mentioned this earlier, but I don’t know what your problem was, as I found and watched this episode on Prime Video just fine with no issues. For me, Season 1 is available and I am in the USA. I am using an Apple TV, in case that makes a difference. You should also know: Amazon Prime started putting ad breaks in their videos too just like what you had today. 🙄 If you recall the anime OVA was told by Rohan as a flashback. Also I believe the correct name in the title is Kishibe Rohan, since JP people dictate their surname/family name first. According to the above observation, it’s actually possible they’re doing these chronologically - since Rohan was telling the others in the OVA there is a good chance it could’ve happened first. I think the word you’re looking for describe Rohan isn’t exactly unhinged, but I’d use the phrase… over the top? Seriously, who sets up a robbery just to get material for one panel? If you need proof that Araki is using Rohan as a self insert, he accosts a guy for starting his manga and then not finishing - but he’s delirious when he finds out being deprived of his manga is what caused him to drop out and turn to a life of crime. Is it just me or does Izumi (the editor) kind of remind you of… you, personality wise? I’m seeing a few similarities, like… this is how you meeting Rohan might actually go. XD For context, 3 million yen translates to about $19,200 USD. “Oh look there’s a dog!” /squees happily Me: “wait for it…” Five seconds later… “Oh gawd, it’s a dog!” Me: “THERE IT IS!” So when you mentioned the “creepy child” I had an amusing crossover thought: is Ikkyu being played by young Aqua from Oshi No Ko? You know. 👀 There were some differences. You were correct in mentioning that Izumi was not warned in the anime. However, in the anime they actually made three mistakes before being asked to withdraw: in addition to the tea, they stepped on the tatami mat and more noticeably, they sat in the wrong place, which did not happen here, as they were beckoned to take the better seat. I mentioned it in the anime version if this, but I got the feeling this particular episode was Araki saying etiquette’s nice and all but our formal expectations in this country are becoming a contrived hindrance to properly treating people. Or something along those lines. I do wish the show would do a better job of translating kanji - when he writes in Ikkyu it would very much confuse anyone who hadn’t seen the anime that “he cannot see tatami mat edges.” Spoken is fine but looking at the language is pretty difficult for Westerners. Hey can you write in that I can read and speak the language? 👀 What you didn’t seem to pick up on - is that it seems Rohan put a command in Izumi’s head before they left. “Make a mistake drinking tea, and get rejected. Never return to that place.” He would’ve had to do that BEFORE they started. Look at that guy just chillin in his house. Makes you wonder what other shenanigans he’s got coming his way. In the meantime, seems like he’s making sure his thief fan gets taken care of.
