Hey everyone!  Here I am with Jojo Part 6, episode 16!!  Whoa!!!  This fight was so sick, and honestly, really brutal!!!  That's kind of a clever Stand though - using meteorites as weapons!!!
But dang, Jolyne's resolve is tough as nails!!!  I'm so proud of our girl!!!!  She's never giving up on that hope that she'll see her dad alive again!!!  It's so touching!  Meanwhile, she's, erm, engaged and doesn't know it :P  That should be an interesting conversation!!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Yay!!!! I hope you're loving my Jojo reactions and that you love my Frieren ones as well! Yeah this was a really graphic one for sure!!! But so well done!!

Melissa Moore

Heh, I'm almost caught up in your JoJo's reactions rn, so, time to watch your Frieren reactions. :D But yeah, that was one viscerally tough fight, wasn't it? I liked it.

Marta Kira Ayanami

That's awesome, I love the way she fights! Yeah that was a brutal one for sure though. Couldn't agree more!!! I'm totally sold on her!!!

Melissa Moore

Oh for sure she's got a lot of moments in her fights where she's honestly like a good Spider-Hero. o: Though in that moment she went from a Spider-Man move, to something way too brutal. xD She's incredibly creative with her stand, and there's always room to grow. She's a bad-ass for sure. o:

Senpai

HAHAHAHA I'd be so freaked out if it was!!! He's totally got similar hair though! I mean, if you love fighting/tournament games, it's hard not to appreciate the concept I guess!! Those would be fitting songs for sure! Hahaha yeah Pucci had a total villain moment here. OMG I'm absolutely terrified that there's a worse injury than the toe coming! I really can't imagine anything worse, I'm afraid :O Oh hahaha, guess I just had Spider-Man on the brain? :P She's really mastered her Stand!!!!

Melissa Moore

So what if I told you that the Blonde haired guard was Giorno? ...I mean it's not true, but damn does that guard look like him. xD I have to admit that as a Fighting Game fan, I can't help but appreciate Survivor as a stand. I mean it sucks, and would terrible to see in action in real life... But I can't help but feel hype when anime characters get into that Fighting Game mentality. xD Not to mention the security guard developing a Stand mid-fight was pretty great. I feel like a good song for this fight would be Capcom vs SNK 2's London Stage theme, or anything from Marvel vs Capcom 2. It was nice to have Pucci have one of those villain moments where he's like: "Oh, the protagonist is being a problem? Don't send in a villain of the week, SEND IN THE ELITE SQUAD!" relatively early in the show rather than late in the show. Like I remember in Gekiranger, the team took down only two monsters before the rival villain was like: "Oh, they took out two average monsters? Let's see how they deal with five of our best warriors." That Injury with the toe though? Honestly that USED to be the one injury in Jojo I cringed the hardest... But unfortunately, that's not the worst injury in this part. ...Also I just wanted to point out, I love how at 13:41(in this episode) the moment you commented how Joylne was like Spider-Man, she immediately just pulls off a very non-Spider-Man move. xD She's gotten pretty good at using her string.

Senpai

Yeah this was a brawl alright! Oh yeah, I caught the shower thing on a rewatch, but I still think the hose is not a good method, particularly how they were using it >.< Hahaha she totally has LAP but man, does she make it look good!!! Yeah she started adding up the situation so fast. She's got that Joestar brain/strategy for sure. Yeah I think he was acting on orders too. Iccckkkkkk the toenail!!! LOL I should be careful what I wish for, for sure! Oof, he really did put his foot in his mouth lol. She's relentless for sure!!! Three more, including bone guy, yup. Ohhh thanks for the VA info on Anasui! Yeah I'm not sure why he's asking them for permission like they're in charge of Jolyne haha! Guess he just had to ask someone, and they happened to be there :P

Melissa Moore

OMG!! Way to go Manny!!! I don't know fashion very well! >.< Jolyne was just on fire here! OMG right?! Hahaha his voice totally is like Hisoka's, that's so true! He is pretty smokin!!! That's so true about FF too, I like the way they're handling things! They're pretty goofy a lot of the time but know how to get serious when the situation calls for it. Now that I know the VA is also Killua's VA, I really can't unhear it too!!!

Melissa Moore

Hi Spadeas! :) Wow!!! I kinda expected there to be more to it than that but you're right, there's bound to be some people here who actually committed crimes lol. Thanks for explaining the name references! Ohhhh so that's how Diver Down works!!! It's still going through things like I thought, just sort of a different reason why. I wish I knew fashion better, I'm not getting any of the fashion references! OMG Jolyne!!! I already liked her a lot but wow, she's just impressed me so much here. Totally get why anyone would fall in love with her here!!! I knew that phrase was familiar, but I didn't remember it was from Vol 1 of Phantom Blood!!! Did they use it in the show too? I need to go and read Phantom Blood lol. That brings it full circle so much!! I already know that the next parts are going to be a reboot, so between that and them not even being advertised as Jojo's at first (wow!) I can totally see why this was a big wrap-up to the series in a way. I love that she gets her hope from thinking of Jotaro and points to the star on her back!!! Ahhh!!! Such great writing!!!

Melissa Moore

Unlike the last episode this one is basically a straight up brawl for the most part. By the way you were a little confused about why the guards were hosing Jolyne in the last episode: they said “it’s shower time.” When you’re in solitary you don’t even get a decent soak or the opportunity to leave your cell. Anyway I think what this particular episode does fairly well is show how fast Jolyne is at thinking on her feet. Obviously she suffers from a condition known as LAP (Lead Anime Protagonist) - so that’s not too surprising - but it’s slowed down to watch her work. Notice how she picked up almost right away that she was being affected by Survivor and caught her own emotional change (hang on why did I just think that?). The guard seems to have been given orders to go after Jolyne based in the presence of a Disc in his head and a Stand but Survivir compounded the problem by turning him into a berserk craze of a person. Oh, and I just knew you were gonna revel in the toenail clipping. Hey you did tell her to use Stone Free five seconds earlier, haven’t you learned yet to be careful what you wish for? 😅 The guard is right about one think - this girl doesn’t know the meaning of the word quit. I mean, he literally got his foot put in his mouth. Now we have to get past three more Stand users and get the Oompa Loompa with the bone, right? And why does Annasui treat FF like she’s the caretaker of Jolyne? It’s weird… (btw his VA is Chouso from JJK and Hagenazaka, or Tanjiro’s Swordsmith from DS, if you’re looking for cross references.)

Vivienne Westwood I knew that one! My god Jolyne is relentless. Erupting the eardrums, ripping toenails, flaming brick to the face. It's a no holds bar match in there. Anastasia. The name alone is making me melt. The look, the Hisoka voice, the conviction. She have named him sexy back becausehe is hot personified. 😮‍💨 Small moment I liked: Foos letting Anastasia know who's in charge in the long run. I really like FF’s attitude towards things. It's really fun and cool. I appreciate that fun loving but serious attitude when the chips are down quality they have.

Manny

Araki originally called this Stand Earth, Wind and Fire, until he remembered there already was an Earth, Wind and Fire.

This fight is so amazing! After Stands getting more and more complicated and tactical, having a straight up 1v1 like this feels so unique, and it only gets better once Westwood's ability is revealed and it becomes a game about how to beat the impossible. And goddamn, this is definetely the most brutal fight we've had in all of the JoJo anime so far. Not just stuff like the guard's nail, but holy sh1t, Stone Free punching the metheors away to scream in utter pain inmediately after is hardcore. It's funny, in his book Araki answered what was the difference between drawing (and writing) men and women, and he said that nowadays after the cultural shift that started in the 90's there's none and the difference is only visual, and he explains that the way he handled Jolyne as opposed to a male protagonist was to not draw her as beat up "...but she faces every bit as brutal as the main characters who came before". But looking back at it, I don't even think she faces as much but even more, considering how often she gets extremely harmed in her battles lol, this one being the biggest example.

Hi Hime :) Narcico Anasui is really a murderer, as I said, not everyone is obviously good in prison, but that doesn't stop you from having good attention or doing good deeds afterwards ^^. Its name comes from two designers again, Narciso Rodriguez and Anna Sui. His stand is Diver Down, which is the name of a Van Halen album. For his ability, it comes from the fact that Anasui likes to understand how things work, by taking them apart. Diver Down can "enter" various things, it can also store an impact and redistribute it later, this is what you have seen for the moment, but it still has other particularities that you will see later. Guard Viviano Westwood is of course a reference to Vivienne Westwood. His stand is Planet Waves, which is a Bob Dylan album. With an episode like that, how can you not fall in love with Jolyne. It's one of the reasons why she's my favorite JoJo and it's not Jolyne's last moment that makes me fall in love with her even more. In the end, I easily understand Anasui lol. But yes, the quote that Jolyne says, about looking at the ground or the stars, is how Araki had described Jojo's story at the very beginning, in what he said in volume 1 of Phantom Blood. Which really makes it even more meaningful when you know that Stone Ocean was written as an ending to the series. Steel Ball Run, part 7, was not promoted as a Jojo series at first and since there was a magazine change between SO and SBR, Stone Ocean really felt like an endgame. Between that and the fact that Jolyne maintains hope by thinking of her father, a descendant of JoeSTAR and points to the star in the back of her neck, this quote carries so much weight.
