Afterword - Feliformia - Side Story - Rubbercat Tails 3

Please do not read this unless you read Rubbercat Tails 3 and Feliformia 9. It contains spoilers.

Soooo, another little tail. This one has been bugging me for quite a while. At some point in chapter 6, Erika shows up to meet Mark and Kitty, and they send him off right away because the two girls want to spend time together.

When Mark came back, he had a great evening with Kitty, and the next morning only, he realized that she was not Kitty, but Erika. (insert drama here)

It was important to me to revisit this and see how they pulled that off in the background while Mark was drinking his coffee at the mall.

First thing, it shows how much Erika got a crush on Kitty and vice versa. They just fell in love on the spot. It was essential to show you that because, in Chapter 7, it was not obvious why Kitty and Erika, who barely spent time together, were so comfortable together.

At that point in time, I already knew that I'd walk away from the extreme. I knew I'd abandon the catheter and feeding tube, but I couldn't do it before Erika joined the family. Erika was supposed to be the one who would moderate Kitty and have those devices removed. So in Tails 3, I tried to show that Erika didn't like those ideas at all and that it would be a one-shot deal to prevent her plan to collapse.

There was also all the quick training Kitty gave Erika. It was to clarify as to why Erika was so comfortable around the house and why Mark didn't realize it was her while they were kissing. Of course, this was no realistic. Pretty much everybody would recognize their partner, eyes closed. But this was a story, and I just pretended the copycat thing was possible. ;) ... no big deal. Nobody commented about that small fictional slip.

At the beginning of this short story, there is a small scene with Elizabeth. If you remember in Tails 2, Erika makes a mistake and tells Kitty what Syr's real name was. Kitty promised not to repeat it to anybody. The only reason why I did this in Tails 2 was that I knew I had to talk about Elizabeth in Tails 3. Hopefully, you noticed this because it is an excellent example of how much work goes into writing a great series. Little details like that are what makes the whole thing comes together, and if I were to make a mistake, I'd get flooded with comments from the reader that found discrepancies in the story.

Talking about Syr, I wanted to show a side of her that we won't necessarily see later. She is fully conscious that she is beautiful and attractive, and knows she can charm anyone with minimum efforts. However, she doesn't do it as some sort of prostitution. She tried to find love, but she is so awkward with her roleplaying habit that she approaches relationships all wrong. In Tails 3 she said that she slept with the guy to see if she loved him. And the way she was talking, she was not, and it was far to be her first attempt. Something is not right, and you'll learn more about it in chapter 10 and 11.
