Bad Batch 1x03 "Replacements" - Reaction & Review
Added 2023-02-06 12:40:06 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to season 1 episode 3 of The Bad Batch!!! Whoa, lots going on in this one! Omega is really showing what she can do on her little sub mission with Hunter! A dragon is no problem for our little clone! Meanwhile we're getting to see firsthand just how the system of the clone army started to break down after the rise of the Empire. Sheesh, they've essentially got them training their replacements. And SHOOT, Crosshair literally took no prisoners - including one mouthy officer in his own crew!!! Yikes!!! That inhibitor chip is nasty!
Can't wait to see more! Great ep!! Enjoy! ~ MH

The stuff with Crosshair was great! It was super dark right! I love how intuitive Omega is!!! And the big brother vibes are so wholesome!!!

2024-08-07 14:08:58 +0000 UTCA little slow on the Batch side this episode but we get some really dark stuff from Crosshair. We see him basically beta testing what will become the Death Troopers we see in Rogue One and Rebels S4. And nothing major, just burning people alive! Like holy crap, even though we don’t see it that’s insanely dark for only 3 episodes in! We do see though that Omega seems very intuitive with animals and new situations. And Wrecker giving her a room was so freaking cute. Total big brother ☺️

The term 'stormtrooper' for a start, the uniforms of the officers (which I have to be honest, I've always liked!!), genocides, the look for absolute power in all aspects (though many regimes do the same), hitherto unknown weaponry, medical experimentation, and similar philosophies in regard to species. Thats just the surface as well. Lucas took aspects from a lot of civilisations, history and all other kinds of fiction into his universe. It shouldn't work, but it does.

After a bit a kind of superiority complex developed, where we went conquering places and people's to 'bring civilisation to the barbarians'. One of the things the Roman Empire did well was to incorporate many of a conquered people's cultures, so that after a while, the Roman's were welcomed by some. Its that old Monty Python sketch "what did the Roman's do for us?". This Sith Empire though is more along the lines of the old Soviet one, or the Chinese Communists; join us, or else.

2023-02-07 21:06:59 +0000 UTCThat's the thing, people welcomed it quite a bit at this time! So true that early on you need the public support or at least compliance, which we see here. Good point that the clones can't be dropped because of how they're seen by the public, I hadn't thought of that. I know, that scene was intense!!!! I couldn't believe where they took it! I know, the room for Omega killed me, it's soooo sweet! Glad I called it with the contrast between the little family our batch has vs. the Empire. Good point, that was an expensive war. I'm sure it won't stop them from putting lots of money towards the Death Star though!!

That's a good point about the contrast between Omega and Crosshair's decisions here. I do wonder about how much awareness he has. LOL it does apply really well here, and something tells me you're right that the Empire will be impressed. :/ Yeah I guess we won't see much of the Rebellion then, good call! Hahaha that's totally what his face was saying. Oh yeah I could take some guesses on who they mean, especially after seeing the one after this! Hmmm!!!!

2023-02-07 10:15:45 +0000 UTCSo, first things first: have you ever noticed whenever someone crashes on a planet it’s never anywhere nice? And anytime you have to put a mask on to go outside of course there’s some kind of beastie involved. Wrecker is okay I think, remember he hit his head really hard in the crash. Also he’s the muscle but he also seems to be a big softie. I think the focus of this episode is on the decisions made by Omega and Crosshair. Omega is thinking for herself, and deviating from plans when she has to. I’m not sure exactly what was going on with the dragon but it seemed to be bothered by her flashlight. Meanwhile, Crosshair doesn’t get the luxury of a choice. Like he keeps saying, any order he gets must be carried out. Which makes me wonder if he’s even aware of what his actions are entailing. One things for sure - his current ruthlessness streak is going to pique the Empire’s interest. After all… resistance is futile. (Wrong series but it applies). Keep in mind the Rebellion doesn’t develop for about 15 years. At this point I imagine it’s simply about survival. Also the Prime Minister doesn’t say anything on Kamino after his argument with Tarkin but you can see Landon’s expression on his face: “this deal is getting worse all the time.” They said they needed a superior clone, now I’m wondering about one of our crew in particular… I’m not spoiling btw it’s been so long I kinda forgot almost everything that happened, so this is a guess. Guess I gotta move to the next one!

2023-02-07 02:39:02 +0000 UTCYep the Empire is being welcomed across the galaxy at this stage by most, which will allow Sidious, Tarkin, and here, Admiral Rampart's plans, already to start taking shape freely. A lot of the ground work for these plans were done during the Clone War, which enabled the senate to back the fall of the Republic and the establishment of the Empire; however having the populus be on board with this regime early on, helps Sidious and co, get their claws into everyone and everywhere. People are being hoodwinked just now, and by the time they see the evil of this regime, the Empire is firmly established. Rampart and Tarkin are getting to work quickly to make sure the clone programme becomes an irrelevance, as project Warmantle gets underway with establishing conscription troops join up with the Empire. They can't totally drop them at the moment though, as the clones are seen as heroes for bringing about the end of the war, and for taking out the 'treasonous' Jedi. Its a horrific scene the Crosshair's squad taking down some of Saw's people. The inhibitor chip does certainly change a clone's behaviour, and Crosshair is more than willing to execute his orders to the letter to be a loyal imperial. The rest of the squad sees what being that entails. Its such a sweet scene at the end, with that big softy Wrecker, making a little room for Omega. And you are right Mel, they are a family, whilst Crosshair is on his own under the cold harsh unforgiving regime of the Empire. The burgeoning Empire does need to cut costs however, as the cost of the Clone War almost bankrupted the galaxy as we saw during TCW. Its also a reason how TIE's get built later without shields, to cut costs. They will be spending a vast majority of their funds on the Death Star, and other nefarious projects though.
