Star Wars Rebels 4x03 "In the Name of the Rebellion, Pt 1" - reaction & review
Added 2022-12-12 12:23:47 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to season 4, episode 3 of REBELS!!!! Wow, there's a lot to deal with in the wake of having to relocate our base, trying to figure out how we should respond to struggles throughout the galaxy, etc. I can totally see why the tensions are high when it comes to which approach is right for this war.
I really, really want for Mon Mothma's way to be the right way, but....this is the Empire we're dealing with, so...!! And of course, a discussion like this wouldn't be complete without good old Saw!!! It's awesome that he's there to lend a hand when the plan goes awry, but....something tells me this is going to be one heck of a ride now that he's taken off with the kids!!! Can't wait for part 2! True! That's a great point, ultimately weren't they answering to Mon? Did they go rogue when doing those things?? Never thought about it that way! Great point about Scarif as well. That does beg some questions! There are so many consistent details, that does seem like a big one to leave hanging. Thanks for pointing it out!!

2022-12-20 13:51:10 +0000 UTCThis is an interesting episode because it has Mon being idealistic and condemning Saw Gerrera for his ruthless, no holds barred, approach. There is something to be said for this to some extent ethically, but it leaves me puzzled having also seen Rogue One; in Rogue One, Cassian and other rebels (all of whom work for the Rebel Alliance, and so presumably ultimately for Mon Mothma) go to Scarif partly because they are feeling guilty for the bad acts they carried out in the name of the Rebellion - bad acts under Mon Mothma's command, unless I have misunderstood something important. We even saw some of those bad acts carried out by Cassian, and lets not forget that Cassian was ordered to assassinate Jin Erso's father by Rebel Command. Was Mon Mothma unaware of this decision and had no part in making this decision? And did Mon Mothma not know about, or order any of, the other bad acts of the other rebels who were feeling guilty and so went to Scarif, on what they were likely to have known was a suicide mission? This seems inconsistent storytelling between Rogue One and Rebels, despite the fact that there was overlap in time and cross fertilisation during the production process between Rogue One and Rebels. I'm not saying it bothers me much, but this has always struck me as an inconsistency that I don't know how to make sense of :-).

Interesting thoughts on how his and Luthen's style are very small scale compared to the larger Rebellion that is being formed at this point. I know, poor Hera! She's so strong, but everyone has their doubts and down times. That's great, hope you had a great time with it!! Oof, yeah, those deaths are gonna hit hard! And omg!!!! Palpatine is a lot of things but he never ceases to entertain right!!!! :D

2022-12-14 21:26:01 +0000 UTCI think R2 leaving 3P0 in TCW is a mirror image of the scene in A New Hope, where 3P0 leaves R2 to wander the Jundland Wastes on Tatooine, before both get captured by these ruddy Jawas! Saw has been in the fight since TCW when Rex, Anakin and Ahsoka taught him and his crew how to fight. While he has been a significant pest to the Empire all these years, his way of doing things, and his reluctance to join a larger scale rebellion, makes what he does, rather self-destructive (both mentally as we see how he gets more paranoid by the end, and physically by what happens to him in a few months for Rogue One) and small-scale. He was never going to be part of the larger plan, and what was needed, for the Rebellion to actually bring down the Empire in the end, even if he does eventually - finally - learn first of the Death Star plans which will eventually be sent to the Rebel Alliance to bring the first significant blow to the Empire. He and Luthen were important in the early days, but at this time their ways have long since not been needed in the larger fight. I like how we see how conflicted Hera of all people is here. She is a rock for our crew and the Rebellion at large; but even here she feels helpless at just the scale of the task they have in front of them. She is usually the one with the wise words, and is so strong a leader; but there is times we see that she has a vulnerability to her. Brilliant character, so well-rounded. Yes I can't wait to watch the film again. Going to watch it tonight. I expect seeing Plo Koon getting shot down and killed will hit the hardest for me, though I am going to have fun seeing Sidious having a whale of a time (sorry!!! :P ), and Ian McDiarmid hamming him up to the max! Should be fun! :D

The scene with Mon and Ezra was great, I agree. Oh, good call about the opening crawl of A New Hope!!! Saw being disavowed makes sense on paper, yet it's hard to argue with a lot of his results. I noticed his appearance is a lot closer to Rogue One here!! It must have been so hard for Hera!! Yes, that was a great Chopper moment!! Hahahaha best to love Chopper from afar, as sad as it is to see him get banged up! Ohhhh now I remember Brom Titus!! Poor dude!! It just got way worse for him too lol. Oh thanks for the info on their ages! I figured late teens, I was close. Oh, no kidding about rewatching Revenge of the Sith!! Enjoy!! I love that so many reactors do Clone Wars, I love occasionally poking around to see how folks are liking it! You'll have to let me know how it hits on the rewatch, having seen so much more content surrounding the characters now!

I completely agree, I think it actually really adds to these scenes to keep the events of Andor in mind! Yeah the camera gave it away. So true, common cause does not equal united. Yes - both sides have both points and flaws. I hear you, it gets so politic-y so easily!!!! Hahahaha I didn't even remember that about Brom Titus but what are the odds lol! Hehehe this is one heck of a date night if that's the case! I know, I feel like the stormtroopers somehow have it worse than battle droids, sheesh!!!

I can definitely see where Saw's methods have gotten results, no matter how morally questionable they may be, and in a situation where the other side doesn't care at all about rules, morals, standards, etc., that sort of makes sense. Also I agree that although many of Saw's methods seem really harsh, he's fighting for freedom and not power, which makes him not like the Empire. There's a lot of sense in this argument, and even if I'm on the fence about it personally, I can definitely see more merit in it than not!!

I’m not saying it was the right call, but it is the Empire, and I think we should try to to take a play from Saw or Choppers handbook once in awhile. It may be dirty (no other way to look at it) but yeah win and feel guilty afterwards.

2022-12-13 10:27:39 +0000 UTCWell, it seems all of the individual rebel cells are coming together… except they’re not and everyone still has their own ideas about what needs to be done, including Ezra. There’s a few questions he raises that kind of reinforces what was said about him earlier. He’s definitely got a few… “Anakin” impulses in his DNA. It’s kind of strange seeing Mon Mothma with the added context of Andor, but it does give a lot more weight to some lines that might have previously been disregarded as throwaway. I knew something suspicious was happening when the camera focused on that droid. Saw is definitely taking the opposite argument. While the rebels share a common cause, they’re far from United. The thing is - neither side is completely right or wrong. Before they can work cohesively they’re both going to need to stop and listen to the other. And I mean actually listen, not end an ear out of courtesy. Ugh… sounds too much like actual politics. Moving on. Ezra has encountered Brom Titus before on the show so his impersonation was a shot in the dark, and the real one just happened to be on that ship. As Sabine said “this is just the kind of luck we get.” Speaking of which, if this is what qualifies as date night, I think both of them might need to rethink their RSVPs. It’ll be interesting to see how “the kids” react after seeing Saw close up. Ezra in particular seems impressionable. Also… is being a Stormtrooper the worst job in the galaxy? If you’re not getting shot at or have bad sim, you’re either dumped off a dish in high altitude or marooned on it as explodes. At least the battle droids had a little more humor in their demise some of the time… 😂

2022-12-13 04:30:34 +0000 UTCAfter much reflection and especially after Andor, I've come to side with Saw over Mon here. When you're being oppressed by the Sith, the rules don't really matter. And it won't because Palpatine will dissolve the Senate in A New Hope. And it may sound harsh, but if killing prisoners will get you better results, to save the galaxy, then it's worth it. I can't exactly call Saw the same as the Empire because this situation wouldn't be like it is if it wasn't for the Empire. And I feel like if it wasn't for Saw, the Rebellion would have been wiped out long ago.

Remember R2 loving his bath in Clone Wars whilst C-3P0 was off getting tortured by Cad Bane! :D Liked the conversation with Ezra and Mon. He is naturally desperate to help his world, as is she with her's. However they aren't ready to take on the Empire head-on as was shown in the season 3 finale. In fact story-wise we can't have a victory against them for a bit to come yet, as in the opening crawl of A New Hope, it mentions that the Rebels have just won their first fight against the Empire, which was at Scarif, which is not for months to come yet. There is a lot of talk about Saw and his 'methods' here. In fact, he was formally censured by the Rebel Alliance and made a pariah, they stopped having anything to do with him, which is why Cassian is tasked with capturing Jyn Erso, so that they'd have a way of going to see him in Rogue One. Speaking of Rogue One, his appearance is far more like his appearance there, only he's not been blown up yet, to have his respirator mask and cybernetic legs. Poor Hera is conflicted about whats the right thing to do. Strategically tapping into the comms tower is the best option, but destroying it sends the Empire a message. You can feel her anger brewing as she states this. She is her father's daughter and Cham would take it down. I love Chopper spinning around as they fall, sums him up! Then when they hit the dish, the technician notes the interference. Good to see the Empire still has the old CRT monitors! Chop hitting that receiver looked so sore, and even when he gets up, you can feel how sore it would be, even for a droid - I'd give him a hug but it would probably end up being the last thing I'd do! :D Poor Brom Titus, every time he runs into Ezra, its always going to end badly for him, first he was an Admiral on the gravity well ship, then he got demoted after that, so was running the scrapyard when the crew needed those Y-Wings, which ended up being destroyed, and now here as Ezra gets up to more shenanigans! Unfortunately its the last thing he'll do, as he ends up meeting Saw, who just blows him up! Referencing Ezra and Sabine's ages, they are probably adults now. Ezra is 18 and Sabine 20. Sabine is still a lot more mature than Ezra though who still acts like a kid. He'll have his eyes opened working with Saw again! Funny you are bringing up Revenge Of The Sith and the Padme stuff in your post-reaction Mel, I'm going to be rewatching that this week! Another reactor I follow has just reached the last arc of Clone Wars and so is watching Episode 3 in preparation! Not seen it in about a decade, will be interesting to watch again having seen TCW and Tales Of The Jedi when Ahsoka, Bail and Mon Mothma are at Padme's funeral; and how much Obi-Wan and Bail will end up loving Padme and Anakin's children.
