Moon Knight 1x03 "The Friendly Type" - reaction & review

We really get to see a lot more interaction here between Mark and Steven, and honestly I'm really hoping they can learn to work together more! We got to learn lots more about Mark's life with Layla prior to this as well. And about Layla in general!!! It's mind blowing to think she didn't know about Steven while they were married, which must have been hard on them both. And yes, we also get more Konshu goodness in this one!! You know, he might not be "good", but at least you know where you stand with Konshu. And from the looks of it, he's in some serious trouble after pulling the moving-the-stars-and-time thing!!!!

Haha yup chase scene: check! Yeah, I'm starting to think there's a third person there too, which I honestly hadn't thought about during the ep! Oh I understood that the kid cut his own tie, but I was reacting to Konshu sort of being nonchalant about it. I don't think I'd sized him up at this point either, because I was sort of thinking that he just didn't care about what was going on or who was hurt in the process of their mission. But the way you summed it up is perfect, and after finishing this ep, I could totally see that wasn't the case! Ethan Hawke is doing a great job for sure here, and I agree that he knows how to manipulate any weaknesses or fallacies of the gods so well! Mark and Steven sadly have to figure everything out on the go considering all we have going on at the moment! That's such a good point, it's almost impossible to tell if Arthur really knows something or not. Oof, losing that armor is gonna sting, literally! Thanks for the vacation wishes, it was great and fortunately I stayed healthy (so sorry you couldn't say the same after your vacation, I hate post-travel colds!!!)! Sorry for the massive delay, I'm trying hard to catch up on all my comments but I'm still a bit behind!!!

It's fascinating that persecutors are also in a protecting role, even if they carry it out in a different way from other alters. Makes total sense that this third alter would align well with Konshu. Great point that the boy was left alive too! Hmm, does make more sense that the third alter made certain moves before Steven got in the cab. So interesting that neither Mark or Steven know of this third alter! Thank you so much for all the info!

That's a good point, you could make an argument for what is "good" or "bad" when it comes to the gods if they're technically just doing their jobs. Konshu definitely feels strongly about what he's doing, and good point that even Ammit's "perfect" version of the world is so very flawed. It's a lot to think about and some great philosophical/ethic/moral stuff for debate!! And yes I think I'm learning from this show as well!

I love the last scene with turning back the sky, it’s so awesome! And that moment where neither Mark or Steven is sure what they did was so shocking! Imagine blacking out then waking up with a bloody knife! D:

2022-07-26 00:01:14 +0000 UTCThese are Egyptian gods but when I think of gods I think of mythological gods like Zeus, Hermes, Poseidon etc. idk what to make of them. If there good or bad idk. Like Hades got a bad rep for being mean cause he hails underworld, ppl assume he’s like the devil when really he’s just doing his job. Does he have the best most friendly personality? No. But is he the worst? debatable; and Poseidon is actually the more wrathful in comparison. Zeus was considered king but had that smug side. I kind think of it like that for this show. Konshu gets a bad wrap but he’s trying to do what he believes is right. Ammit is something ppl could get behind because it brings a “better” version of the world but you see flaws in that. And it’s more wrathful in some ways. It’s all just fascinating to think think about. I love stuff like this. It’s not fully clear but I understand it. Idk how to explain it but yeah I also learned a lot along the way.

2022-07-23 11:16:09 +0000 UTCWell, first you know we can’t have a escapade into a foreign country without an epic foot chase scene at some point. So… box checked. Now, regarding what actually did happen on the rooftop when Marc ended up holding the bloody knife, and people were dead? First, he doesn’t remember what happened. And neither does Steven. Usually one of them is owning up to their actions when asked. But if NEITHER of them remembered it, or actually did it, then what does that mean…? I think you might’ve misinterpreted what happened with the kid. Konshu just wanted Marc to threaten him in order to get information by holding him off the roof. But the kid actually cut the neck scarf holding him up and was willing to fall to his death, which even surprised Konshu. You even hear him say, “I really thought he’d talk…” Konshu is a bit of an enigma, he has intentions that seem beneficial but his methods are a bit aggressive. He also seems like a very jaded individual, and when you discover he has been vanished for trying to help by his peers, his personality makes a little more sense. The gods themselves are clearly fallible, as they want nothing to do with humanity and can even be deceived. Although it might also be pointed out, Arthur Harrow (they use his last name a lot, but it’s easier to just call him Arthur), knows how they operate, and is clearly good at manipulation. He is able to distract and defer from the initial accusation of Konshu and get their focus on other facts, while he proceeds off doing his own thing. Also, we can talk about Oscar Isaac’s performance to death, but I do think Ethan Hawke is doing a good job as Arthur as well, especially the way he uses his voice to inflect certain emotions without presenting them overtly. Marc and Steven are in a perpetual argument because they both want control and are unwilling to give it up, meanwhile everyone around them is caught in the middle, especially Layla. It’s going to take some work for both of these personalities to work together and solve this puzzle. The actor who played Anton, the black market collection guy, unfortunately died shortly after these scenes were filmed, hence the post credit dedication. Arthur’s quip about Layla’s father sets off both her and Marc, but does he actually know something or is he manipulating again? Do any of them even know the full truth or like the Star map, are they just piecing things together? The questions keep coming… Konshu mentions that without him, his protection with the Moon Knight suit will not be available. You’ve already seen how useful it is, as Marc survived several horse impaling javelins with it on. But now that Konshu is imprisoned, that’s no longer an option. Marc and Steven will now have to be far more careful and use their own wits to proceed. You’re at the halfway point, three episodes to go. I imagine you’ll be back by the time you read this, so hope you had an enjoyable vacation (preferably without a cold, take it from me!)

This can be explained by having missing time, but if the others don't notice the change a alter can stay hidden within the mind. Away from the rest of the alters and staying hidden if they do not wish to be seen.

2022-07-23 00:45:07 +0000 UTCHaven't watched your full reaction yet but at least I can explain one thing when Steven and Mark are arguing over who hurt the people they were fighting both of them believe it's the other. This indicates that they both blacked out but if that's the case then that means there's another altar in there with them. From the way it seems it took control while they were squabbling in order to complete their objectives. It seems to be an altar who takes control whenever Mark can't fulfill the objective. Possibly a protector or persecutor. It protector is an altar his sole purpose is to make sure that the body stays alive and thriving. Working with the host and system to make things run smoothly on the day to day. A persecutor on the other hand also is trying to protect the body but they feel that they must do so against the will of the system or the host. Meaning their methods may not be always the best. Many people get the wrong idea with persecutors believing that they are trying to sabotage the system and the body. But even if they act antagonistic towards the host and the other altars usually it is because they have a strong intense urge to do what they're doing. Say if they try to deceive, in their mind they are deceiving in order to keep the body safe to keep the system safe. The problem with this with persecutors is that sometimes they believe that the body deserves to be hurt or in a particular situation or possibly that they need to be punished for things in the past. Persecutors can be quite violent but only in defense of the body. They are not monsters even though sometimes they believe themselves to be. I have a feeling that this altar is more like Konchu. An "ends justify the means" sort of alter. One not against killing others. No this doesn't mean he is a psycho. But basically if a threat is present he will get rid of it. Will he enjoy getting rid of threats. Possibly but he isn't evil. Hence why the people that Marc fighting end up dead this new alter considers these people threatening and that they need to be removed in order for Marc, Steven, and the body to be safe. Notice the boy was left alive. Because earlier with Marc fighting them. He didn't want to hurt the boy. Telling me this alter does care for young people and doesn't wish to hurt them without cause. What I find interesting is when this alter first fronted seemed to be before Steven makes them get in a cab. If you notice these guys act spooked and try to flee from Marc. I doubt Steven threatened them. Considering he wanted Marc to leave them alone. Maybe they were threatened by this new alter. And then Steven came out and left. Either way. This is an alter neither Marc or Steven is aware of. Which tells me this is an alter who wishes not to be known by them. Will watch the rest of your reaction later today.
