New Show Recommendations!!!

***I'll be doing a separate post for anime recommendations in April, so be sure to save your anime suggestions for then!!!***

Hey everyone!  I'm looking for a NEW SHOW to replace Arcane and Boba Fett!!!  (Will be replacing both with just one show.)  Right now I'm looking for your suggestions on:

- Drama

- Animated Drama

- Live Action

I'm thinking along the lines of the Disney+ shows I watch, other live action I've done in the past, and shows similar to Arcane (animated hour-long dramas).  I LOVED Arcane so I would not object to more shows like that please :D

I'm also open to other kinds of genres I haven't done before - e.g., I know that K-dramas like "All of Us are Dead" have been really popular (watched Squid Game on my own, but there's still plenty I haven' seen!)!

I know a lot of you have suggested a toku show, which I would LOVE to do, but those tend to be pretty lengthy and also I'm unable to put them on YouTube anymore because of copyright :(  The reaction has to be linked separately because none of the footage can go on YouTube, but that's not super convenient when you're trying to watch my reactions.  So it would make me a little sad to have to start off a show knowing that YouTube is already at a disadvantage with trying to see it!

I can't wait to see what you have to say!!!!!!!!!  Once I've tabulated the top-recommended shows listed here, the top choices will go on to my Patreon poll.  Thank you so much for your help!!!!!!!

Legend of Vox Machina please! It's on Amazon Prime and it's created from a wholesome group of nerdy voice actor friends who plays a DnD campaign (dungeon and dragons tabletop game). Quick background on the animated series, the creators are a group called Critical Role who managed to build a loyal fanbase streaming their dnd campaign live on twitch every thursday night. They got big enough to create a very successful kickstarter that raised up to 11 million to fund an animating studio called Titmouse (makers of Legend of Korra and others) to make their dnd story come to life in an animated adaptation. Amazon caught wind of this success and decided to give them a platform and funded the 2nd season. As for the show itself, it is a wild, crazy fantasy VERY adult adventure about an eccentric party of talented individuals called Vox Machina. They all come with a variety of backgrounds and abilities trying to make a name for themselves in the world of Exandria. Since the show is very faithful to its origins, the characters and the plots they adapt don't always follow the convention writing like most fantasy shows have in this medium as the players treat their campaign as a modern take on a fantasy roleplay. As such the comedy, social themes and conflicts are surprisingly relatable to the current times. The tone of each episode can vary very quickly as they are packing hours and hours of content into 12 episodes each being roughly 20-30 mins each but I believe the showrunners created something special here as the dynamic of the characters truly feel genuine as the players were part of the writing process throughout the whole thing. Anywho thanks for reading this blurb Melissa. I hope you give the first 3 episodes a shot as every episode, just like HxH, seems to one up the other. It also benefits from being only 12 episodes so you can easily binge watch it and move on to another. Good day to ya! p.s. Below are some links to get a better understanding what Critical Role is and what the people behind it are like and then a red band trailer (R rated trailer) of the animated show https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXu7W44rWbg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JvwxQSc-3os

Hmm not sure if I've heard a lot about Infinity Train, interesting!!! I've seen the Duck Tales reboot but not Owl House, and I'm dying to! I love the Ninja Turtles too so I'm sure I'd enjoy Rise!!! Thank you so much :D

Melissa Moore

I have, I loved that too!

Melissa Moore

You had me at Sakurai Yuuto!!!! XD

Melissa Moore

I've heard good things!!

Melissa Moore

I definitely recommend She-ra and the Princesses of Power. It's a Netflix show based on the 80's She-ra. It's got 5 seasons, and also delves into some deep themes, specially in later seasons.

Daniela

What about the Legend of Korra, have you seen that already?

Daniela

Ok so definitely Infinity Train is in this. And in addition to those I mentioned above, I would add on the Disney + side, the reboot of Ducktales, Amphibia and The Owl house which are really excellent series too. The Owl House resuming its season 2 soon and ending with a shorter season 3, might be worth it for you. Even if I always come back to my favorite with Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which could offer you a good dose of laughter (and dazzle you with top-notch action scenes ).

Spadeas

Yup

Sirghostfreak

Ohhh gotcha!!! Nice!! I hadn't heard about that! :O Sounds awesome!

Melissa Moore

Oh I know you did the boys but they released something called the boys diabolical 8 different episodes all in different art styles like with star wars visions

Sirghostfreak

Ah yes I've seen the first two seasons of the Boys!!! My reactions are here if you wanna check them out :D

Melissa Moore

Oh, also Invincible, that'd definitely fit the bill for an animated series

SaintLily

Vox Machina is getting a lot of love here which makes me happy. I still think you should react to Invincible as it is animated but it is very much a dramatic show. I also second the call for Wheel of Time, also on Amazon Prime. (Man, Prime is just rocking it lately.)

dainbramage7

Killing Eve is something that springs to mind as a live action drama. It's a British series about an MI6 agent named Eve who is hunting an international assassin that gradually develops a fascination towards her. Quite good, and it has a new season coming out pretty soon so there's some current relevance there. I also see some people mentioning Motherland Fort Salem above, that's also very worth checking out.

SaintLily

Oh and you should watch the boys diabolical or invincible both having 8 episodes with the boys being Shorter I think

Sirghostfreak

In that case....I'll recommend Vox Machina along with the other people recommending it, and as a joke recommendation I'll say the live action Moyashimon series. It's not that it's a bad show or anything, it's just that the lead actor is Sakurai Yuto's actor.

Senpai

Cobra Kai!!

Sirghostfreak

I've seen it already and LOVE it!

Melissa Moore

I'm actually holding another recommendation call / poll in April for anime so keep this in mind for sure!

Melissa Moore

I've seen OTH and Vampire Diaries already but not the others!!! And Tangled the series sounds interesting!

Melissa Moore

Oh sorry for not being clearer! So I basically meant shows similar to Arcane in that they're animated but play more like a live action drama. But I'd be open to other animated shows that have fun drama and twists - for example, Gravity Falls and Steven Universe are ones I've seen that totally fall into this genre!!!

Melissa Moore

I've seen it and loved it actually!!!

Melissa Moore

The Legend of Vox Machina! it's awesome and I'm pretty sure you'll love it too.

dnsdc

I mean if Anime counts, I'm going to have to go with Dorohedoro. The world building feels like it's nearly as creative and imaginative as Hunter x Hunter, it's got some BADASS female characters, and the friendships in this are an absolutely wonderful thing. It's also violent, but I feel like it's around Attack on Titan level so you can probably handle it if it's not something that completely turns you off to a series. If so, then I'll recommend Hinamatsuri since I'm sure some people are more willing to jump onboard that than Barakamon. 😂

Senpai

Legend of Vox Machina is really great, and while it's very comedic as opposed to strictly a drama animated show, the story is fantastic as well. I'd also recommend the Wheel of Time if you'd want to go live action.

Kirsten H

Well if you want Drama, and animated, there is AnoHana. Its not new, but its a Drama where you will cry.

Kevin

One Tree Hill, Revenge, Vampire diaries, motherland fort salem or animated series The owl house, Legends of Vox Machina, Tangled the series(if you've seen the movie)

Amy

The live action version of The King's Avatar is great. They turned an anime into a Chinese drama, I didn't expect it to be good but it is.

Damie♥

The owl house is also a really great show. Lots of fun wacky adventures with some drama sprinkles in there

SharkMessiah101

Legends of Vox Machina is a must watch for you. I know for sure that you’ll love it.

SharkMessiah101

Yes Yes Yes

Zach Feifel

The Legend of Vox Machina is great. If you're looking for more fantasy, well this is a show for you. Based off of the Critical Role Dungeons and Dragons first campaign. The Legend of Vox Machina follows a troop of unlikely heroes. Each of them are very colorful and full of personality. Lots of time and love was put into this series. It has the same artists that have done the Young Justice series, and a bunch of the DC animated movies. If you're not a Critter now, the loving fanbase name for Critical Role, I promise you will be a Critter by the end of this season and will be begging for season 2 to come out already.

Nate

The Legend of Vox Machina, on Amazon (Prime) Video. It's the animated version of the original D&D campaign played out on the web series Critical Role featuring Matt Mercer and his friends.....and it's HILARIOUS! Great action comedy and I'd love to see your reactions.

I’m just going to drop my previous recommendation of “The Wheel of Time” in here - it’s a high fantasy show based on a popular book series and has quickly become the hottest thing on Amazon Prime. No spoiler details: but think of the type of story as cut from a similar cloth as LOTR, and they’ve ordered several seasons, even before the first one started to air. The first season is eight episodes, so it wouldn’t take that long to catch up.

Tyler Stobbe

Let's go for Kamen Rider Build!

ABHB Ya-iba

Legend of Vox Machina, it's on Amazon. It's basically a DnD campaign made into an animated series. It's 12 episodes of tweny-something minutes (always less than 30)

Daimah

"Animated drama" questions me... If by that you mean just an animated series that is not an anime, I know of some on Netflix that could match, from the shortest to the longest. But very few come to mind with episodes longer than 20 min. Series like Kipo, Hilda, The Dragon Prince, Carmen Sandiego, Maya and the three, Trollhunters might please you when Cartoon Network's Infinity Train is a must see. With a little more precision, I could give you a better option.

Spadeas

“The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” is a Dark Fantasy / Drama adaptation of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. It’s technically got 4 seasons, but its listed as just being 2 seasons with 4 parts (2 parts 1st season/ 2 parts 2nd). The episodes are kinda long, they can go up to an hour, but I highly recommend you watch it even if its on your own time :)

Kele Pennington

Avatar the Last Airbender if you havent seen it already

Bombad Jedi

I would like to recommend the show "One Tree Hill". I recently rediscovered this series and i really love it. It's a really great drama with great characters. I think you would enjoy it too.

Namikaza

I would love to see you react to Motherland Fort Salem, it's one of my favorite shows. It's about witches that are in the military.

Bryan Forquer

Gravity Falls and Over the Garden Wall are two great animated shows. If you’ve seen the three karate kid movies the show Cobra Kai would be a superb show

Duke

If youve never seen it before I'd actually recommend "The Orville". Its not drama or anything but I think its pretty enjoyable. Its sort of a more lighthearted and comedic take on the concept of Star Trek
