RWBY 6x08 "Dead End" & 6x09 "Lost" reaction & review
Added 2021-04-27 13:07:38 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Here's my reaction/review of episodes 8 and 9 of vol 6 of RWBY! OH, MY, GOSH!!!! So much goodness in these eps....absolutely loved the comedy of meeting Caroline, the tension and sadness of JNR learning what the real deal is, and last but not least....THAT EPIC, HEARTBREAKING MOMENT!!!!!!!!!!! :'( We began that scene with me saying that every time we see a leaf on this show, it means Pyrrha is watching over us. I had no idea just how right I was!!!! She always shows up when we need her the most. I have no idea who that woman was, but the idea that two people who were close to Pyrrha found comfort in that statue of her is just too beautiful and heartbreaking for words. She, more than anyone, would want them to keep trying even if they have no chance of succeeding (supposedly). So there you have it....our crew is back in action and ready to....steal a ship?! Even my man Qrow, who was in the depths of despair, seemed to be shaken out of it a bit by Ruby's epic speech!!!!!!!! I am counting down the SECONDS until I get to see more of this show!! Enjoy! ~ MH

Ohhhhhh yes that's true!!! It didn't really occur to me actually. That's a great point! And yeah, his dad's semblance is frightening for sure. Reminds me of an anime I'm watching but I won't say what in case you haven't seen it lol!

2021-07-11 15:22:28 +0000 UTCIn case you haven't noticed, Maria said that her father was the one who teach her about the Silver Eyes, implying that her father was a Silver Eyes person as well. Implying that men can have Silver Eyes as well, another difference from the 4 Maidens since Maidens can ONLY be females and pass the magic by though while Silver Eyes has to be inherited like genetics. And yes Mercury losing his Semblance because of his father was a twist, there is a possibility that he could get it back at some point, but it is uncertain. But the fact that his dad has a Semblance that can steal other people's Semblances is pretty powerful.

2021-05-05 15:20:08 +0000 UTCI love this episode so, so much. A big part of it is how many fantastic character moments there are thanks to the writing, voice acting and music. Since I really like Mercury and Emerald as characters it was so great to get more into their mindsets. Emerald is such a sad character in my opinion having never really had a family/someone who cared about her and when she finds that person in Cinder they are abusive although Emerald is clearly unable to acknowledge that. It may have been harsh but I’m glad Mercury told her the truth about Cinder and he certainly knows about abuse considering his father. The short fight between the 2 and Mercury’s voice acting really sells the abuse he’s gone through. Also the best way to think of his father and his semblance is All for One from MHA and it’s a terrifying semblance. I also think this recontextualizes his character a lot because he has been fighting with pure talent & skill without having a semblance to fall back on which is really impressive. And then Tyrian shows up and he just loves messing with people. His entire speech was so creepy but also strangely enough contained some good advice from a psychopath. Tyrian really is living his best life LOL. I want clarify that while he’s giving ostensibly good advice with ill intent because he really wants the opportunity to kill these 2. He’s making it extremely clear how there’s no easy way to get out of this… Let’s be honest cult it’s a cult. Also we get the full reveal of Tyrian’s new robotic tail which has a great design but is also scary/really dangerous. I really love how hard Nora and Ren are trying to take care of Jaune especially when he seems to be in such a bad place emotionally. The entire statue is just perfect and so beautiful from start to finish. Thanks to her mother showing up we get to have such a perfect discussion about Pyrrha’s character and how wonderful it was. I love how this discussion is in direct opposition to the idea that this mission was for nothing and that no matter how impossible something might seem you have to fight for good because who else will. The image of Jaune, Nora and Ren in front of Pyrrha’s statue is so powerful and poignant. I love the other purpose of this scene being to get Jaune out of the mindset that he’s not good enough and that his life is less important than others it’s so great for pushing his character development even more. I think Qrow on the steps is meant to very pointedly show him changing from a “functioning” alcoholic which is an oxymoron in of itself to very much a nonfunctioning one. I think all of us before this episode came out jumped to the worst conclusions about Oscar for example thinking he was kidnapped by the villains and he was just shopping. Also if you look closely at everyone tackling him or slow it down the animation goes wacky in a really good and funny way. I do think we were robbed of an Oscar shopping montage with him having an inner monologue of thinking about all the stuff he talks about and coming to the conclusion he does in this episode. Also his new outfit is just perfection. I love as soon as Jaune mentions stealing something Adrian starts laughing. It’s almost like he’s saying “Hell yeah theft is great” LOL. I truly believe Qrow is trying to stop them because he cares about and wants to protect them but he is basically telling them to give up so I’m glad Ruby talked sense into him. Seeing this side of her is so rewarding. I also wholeheartedly agree with the idea that Qrow at this moment is seeing Summer in Ruby and I think that’s really heartwarming/powerful. These were some great reactions. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

2021-05-05 04:45:04 +0000 UTCOh haha the soldiers aren't for everyone I suppose!! The Maria and Caroline comedy was great! Hahaha so funny about finding someone who loves you as much as they hate each other lol...Maria's definitely having fun with it though!! Also, sad but true about the dangerous/irrational patriotism. And about the way they addressed the Faunus racism here....it does help to highlight the character growth! Ah yes I loved Ruby immediately stepping in to reassure Weiss. Great point about how strong Jaune has gotten too!!! Their reactions were very realistic. Thanks about noticing the regret Jaune had! The moment between Maria and Ruby was great! So true that while Maria is teaching Ruby, she's really helping to foster her independent thinking as well. Omg the backyard was so pretty! Great point about her dad being a soldier in the Great War and also that her semblance is Spidey sense!! I love that they gave more details on how the silver eyes are related to protection! Awwww I love the Oscar Protection Squad hahah! I'm so glad he was okay! He's so sweet and cute for sure! Thanks!

2021-05-04 13:34:57 +0000 UTCGreat episode. The start of this episode is peak RWBY comedy in my opinion although I find those 2 soldiers annoying. I think Maria is the funniest character in the show especially with the whole “maybe she’s dead” line. I think it's hilarious how we have this supposedly imposing military leader and then Caroline is just as short as Maria. If I was looking for a relationship I would want to find someone who loved me as much as Maria & Caroline hate each other although Maria certainly has more fun doing it than Caroline does LOL. I like that this reminds us that Atlas was under suspicion because of volume 3. I also like seeing Weiss showing her respect for Ironwood again. Caroline and her soldiers show the type of dangerous, obsessive & irrational patriotism that unfortunately exists too often in real life and makes sense considering what we have heard about Atlas in the past. Also Maria not caring what people think of her and saying what she wants while Ruby deals with her like a cranky grandmother is just amazing. I’m glad that the racism against the Faunus because of how important it is to the story and the characters particularly Weiss and how much she’s changed. Also while Blake looks upset and Weiss is the 1st to get angry and say something in the background Yang looks livid and if Weiss hadn’t said something she would have. I feel so bad for Weiss because I think in that moment she was thinking that if she went to Atlas by herself she could find a way to get everyone else there as well but I love how Ruby immediately is there to reassure her. Honestly JNR’s reactions make complete sense especially Jaune’s after what they have lost and the hardships they have gone through. Also something to think about is Jaune doing that much damage to what’s most likely a reinforced wood/concrete wall shows just how strong he’s gotten. I think what made his reaction worse was there being no plan and him still having issues with Oz. The moment of Oscar being attacked here is so tense and hard to watch. I’m so glad you noticed how Jaune showed regret in his eyes as soon as he looked at Oscar I think getting space was the right move at this point. I really love this learning moment between Maria and Ruby. I love Maria telling Ruby that she is too hard on herself/doesn’t believe in herself enough because that was something I thought since she’s been a damn good leader considering everything that’s been happening and the circumstances surrounding them. I love Maria’s way of teaching being very wise and giving answers but also making sure Ruby thinks things through on her own 1st. Also the Cotta-Arc’s backyard/garden might be the most beautiful location in the show. I really liked the imagery with the butterfly. It was really interesting to learn more about Maria especially her father having been a soldier in the great war which is something easily missed and her semblance just being Spider-Man’s spidey sense. I loved learning a little more about the history of the silver eyes. Also a lot of us fans already had a feeling that the silver eyes had to do with wanting to protect others but getting the specifics was so cool especially because positive emotions and wanting to save people is so important in the show. Finally people were so worried about Oscar at the end of this episode. I forgot to tell you earlier but there’s a part of the community that just calls themselves the Oscar Protection Squad because they really like his character and find him interesting and adorable which is really fun for the community of RWBY. Episode 9 comment coming soon.

2021-05-04 05:25:38 +0000 UTCAwwwww yes, it's come to my attention now that she totally would have known about Jaune for many reasons (letters, the tournament, etc.). So meaningful!!!!!!

2021-05-01 15:12:51 +0000 UTCThat does make a lot of sense!!! And so interesting about the flowers!!!
Melissa Moore
2021-05-01 15:12:03 +0000 UTCWhat's very powerful of that scene as well is that Pyrrha's mom knows who Jaune is. She has heard from Pyrrha about her teammates. And her looking at Jaune and saying, "I am just so glad she was surrounded by such wonderful people." And she looks at Jaune with such love and care. She might have seen him during the tournament. Because you bet Pyrrha's family were watching the Vytal Festival.

2021-04-30 17:55:54 +0000 UTCwe rwby theorists have looked at the details of the jaune, red headed woman scene. And just from the way she talks. As well as the flowers she's holding we think she was her mother. The lilies she carried are the chinese flower of motherhood. And the way she talked about Pyrrha is how a mother talks about the daughter who was her whole world.

2021-04-30 17:54:07 +0000 UTCYAY!!!! And yes, it certainly was!! Omg, it never gets easier with Pyrrha's death....honestly it still just feels so raw, and that scene coming out of nowhere just twisted the knife. I hope you love my future reactions!!! Already seen the next two and WOW, you are right about high gear!!!!! XD
Melissa Moore
2021-04-30 13:59:57 +0000 UTCMAMA NIKOS APPEARS! Gods that scene was heart wrenching, even 3 entire years after watching Pyrrha die. I had 3 long years to deal with that death and it still keeps coming back to kick my teeth in. It was an amazing scene though and I knew it was gonna have you all teared up, especially given the absolute lack of warning that was given for it. I'm really excited to see your reactions to the last three episodes of the volume though, those kick it into high gear.

2021-04-30 02:09:12 +0000 UTCOh my gosh you're so right!!! I hadn't even thought of that line since it was said but Argus is absolutely gorgeous!!! So pretty, quaint, and a fair amount going on there as well. Hahaha good point, Argus folks probably wanna keep the awesomeness a secret for that reason!!! ;)
Melissa Moore
2021-04-29 13:45:48 +0000 UTCSidebar, re: Argus. Little Miss back in Mistral said "Argus is rarely a destination for folks...." and after these chapters I'm like Liar Liar Pants on Fire! Argus is a BEAUTIFUL city....why wouldn't you come here? I know Atlas is supposedly even more impressive but what's not to love in the Argus city-scape? Plus it's a port town (fresh seafood!), probably has a beach, etc, and is the home to Sanctum Academy, the High-School level prep school for Haven Academy down in Mistral. Maybe it's Argus folk themselves who downplay the beauty of their city so other people won't move there and mess it up. ;-)

2021-04-29 01:02:06 +0000 UTCThat's very true!! LOL Tyrian's advice was oddly wise. Makes sense about Mercury! That's so sad about the abusive relationship....that's very, very hard stuff to deal with for sure! It's not a comfortable topic at all but definitely one that really hits me when it's brought up on this show (and others). Can't wait to discuss it more later!
Melissa Moore
2021-04-28 19:37:45 +0000 UTCI am sure that Pyrrha would have told her family about her team, so if that WAS her mother (or older sister) she probably recognized Jaune and knew he had survivor's guilt. Also, I like that Tyrian - in his craziness - gave really good advice to Emerald and Mercury. Don't do what you are doing if it doesn't make you happy. I think Mercury's father had a Semblance that let him steal other people's powers, which would be very handy for an assassin. And I think him refusing to return Mercury's power was what prompted their fight to the death. If Mercury had an abusive father, then Emerald's relationship with Cinder reminds me of a friend of mine with an abusive mother who took YEARS to be able to accept that (they actually are fine now, his mother admitted her actions and they mended their relationship). It's not a comfortable topic, and I might wait to talk more about it until later on in the show.

2021-04-28 14:51:48 +0000 UTCThanks for all your thoughts! I'm really interested in seeing more of the Atlesian mentality as well. So true about Ruby only needing to show a little anger to set folks straight!!! And yes total Jedi Master/Padawan moment there with Maria and Ruby! I definitely get the idea that Emerald has more of a conscience about what's going on. And makes total sense that Tyrian just wants to mess with them! Hahahaha the ultimate sadistic act was done by CRWBY for sure though! Makes total sense that Pyrrha is helping them even now. There's definitely been a build up to the drinking issue with Qrow and it's reaching a boiling point now for sure! It's totally sad that Ruby has to work overtime on being a good leader because the adults aren't holding up their end!! But she's doing great for sure! Yeah I agree that he saw something in her!!!! No worries, I was happy to get your comment!!! Can't wait for more and thank you so much, so glad you liked my reaction!!!!! :D
Melissa Moore
2021-04-28 14:15:30 +0000 UTCI like that idea too! Awwww the flowers! <3 That's so true about the sash, and seeing them as partners during the tournament. I knew I knew the voice!! Oh that makes sense about the semblance, and it's totally understandable that she wouldn't have been able to face the whole team and still keep it together. Ahhhhhh that must have been so hard for her to meet Jaune knowing who he was!!! Yes, leave it to Ruby to save us all from sadness!!!!
Melissa Moore
2021-04-28 14:10:42 +0000 UTCHaha!! Ohhhhh that's why he doesn't have the legs, ouch!! I knew the voice sounded like her! Can't wait for more!

2021-04-28 13:52:56 +0000 UTCThanks!! I can totally see how the writers are doing that. Ruby and Jaune have definitely taken big steps in their leadership roles! Ahh I knew it about the voice!!! I like that they leave it a bit of a mystery, but all we really need to know is it was someone close to her. <3

2021-04-28 13:52:45 +0000 UTCYou people told me to take heed w/ episode 03, you gave me notice on 05, why did no one give me warning for 09?! These last RWBY days were so great i wanted to enjoy this RWBY day w/ some haagen dazs & now it's all salty cause of these tears. 😭 I'd like to think Pyrrha helped guide Juane to his mother for a ❤ to ❤. If it's her mother or Aunt i can see where Pyrrha got that strong personality, and very kind outlook on life. 😭

2021-04-28 04:48:18 +0000 UTCI'm convinced that was Mama Nikos at the memorial statue....and others have pointed out that the kind of flowers she was carrying are associated with motherhood. And she knew exactly who Jaune was....he's wearing Pyrrha's red sash on his hip for one, plus Mrs. Nikos would've seen them together in the Vytal Festival Tournament Match broadcast...He turns to leave and she starts speaking, wanting him to stay. And yes, the "red-haired woman" (as the credits identify her) is also voiced by Jen Brown, Pyrrha's VA. This part of the chapter turned me into a weepy mess when it first aired, and then again a week later when all the major RWBY reactors on YouTube uploaded their reactions, too. She does vanish mysteriously when the rest of Team JNPR show up but I take it to mean she activated her semblance...that it was everything she could do to hold it together to talk to Jaune....talking to the rest of her daughter's team would've been just too overwhelming. I'm sure Pyrrha was the kind of young lady who would write letters/email to her mom about the guy she was in love with; it's comforting for me to imagine Mrs. Nikos knows the young man standing there was the love of her daughter's life, might've been her son-in-law in better times. If you watch other RWBY reactors on YouTube, this scene hit EVERYONE hard, but Ruby's uplifting speech at the end left us all feeling okay again.

2021-04-27 23:14:32 +0000 UTCI'm glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed the airship above her statue. I've not seen many people mention it, and it makes his expression of gratitude even more poignant.

2021-04-27 23:13:36 +0000 UTCIt's especially evident in the scene where they are sitting together talking about destiny in Volume 3 Chapter 8.

2021-04-27 23:10:28 +0000 UTC100% that was Pyrrha's mom...Really who else could it be?...When Juane looked up at Pyrrha at the end of that scene and said thank you an Atlas airship was flying by. I think Pyrrha lead him to her statue with the leaf to give him and Nora and Ren some closure but also gave him the idea to steal an Atlas airship.
JAMES D'ALESSANDRO
2021-04-27 21:34:06 +0000 UTCA thing to point out is that the Vytal festival tournament was shown around the world, so whoever it was at the statue, definitely recognized Jaune as being Pyrhha's teammate. And my personal thought is that she was already tearing up, and then heard Ren and Nora, and knew she wouldn't be able to hold it together seeing all three of them together, so she quietly left.
2021-04-27 20:13:51 +0000 UTCI love your positive take on the overall mission. After all, Oz's task wasn't to defeat Salem, but to have the relics in his care until the world can be brought together. Per her Twitter account, Pyrrha's VA was overjoyed to provide the voice for the character who is in the credits as "Red Haired Woman." They want us to wonder. I think Jaune's plan was inspired by the airship he sees flying over the statue as he says Thank you. My concern about Jaune's plan going into the next episode was that our heroes have only fought monsters and killers. Stealing an airship creates the possibility of having to fight and hurt others like themselves who are only trying to do their jobs and protect the people.
Christopher Pope
2021-04-27 17:13:56 +0000 UTCThe song, 'Forever Fall' has been Pyrrha and Juane's theme from the very beginning. It's played in the score when Pyrrha first appears on screen in volume 1.

2021-04-27 15:35:55 +0000 UTCyes hello welcome to another episode of how Rooster Teeth can hurt me emotionally. These two episodes are so good we get to see how JNR react to the news and got to learn more about sliver eyes. Also Mercury not having a semblance so does that mean his has to do with his legs and his dad took them away. Lastly the Pyrrah statue scene was so good and yes that was the same voice actress. I am so excited for the next two weeks

2021-04-27 15:24:19 +0000 UTCTwo amazing episodes. Honestly the fact that the Atlesian military is represented in this region by Caroline is interesting to me. Really highlights a few not so great traits that seem to be consistent in a few Atlesians (minus Weiss - now anyways, Winter and Ironwood). Also the fact that they think so highly of Ironwood and even go so far as to when anyone claims that he may be worried or doubtful, they take it personally and attribute that as to someone thinking he is cowardly (which I don't know how you could connect worry to cowardice). Not to mention the heavy patriotism that just seems like blind faith.... yeah. Also the way Weiss immediately jumped in to defend Blake when Caroline was throwing a racist remark (which I kind of like to think could also be directed at Yang considering as far as the rest of the world know Yang brutally attacked another student on live tv unprovoked.) And finally the other half of the squad knows now, and their reaction was about what expected the first time I watched this. Jaune has never really been okay with the choices Oz made in terms of involving Pyrrha and to have this be revealed to him, not great, he like Yang wanted to trust Oz but was skeptical of him, and now that skepticism has born fruit...and Jaune thinks that "everything we did was for nothing" and if that's true for them then Pyrrha died for nothing at least in his mind. But god, him pushing Oscar up against that wall, all that tension never gets easier to watch. But once again angry/frustrated Ruby appears to set the situation straight, all it took was one word from Ruby and Jaune (and even the others stopped) - proof that you must be doing something wrong if even Ruby is mad at you. And ahhhhh that garden scene! A real Luke and Yoda moment with Ruby and Maria, finally getting a more in-depth explanation of these powers of theirs and a cute bonding moment between the two. So Mercury is under the impression he'll get whatever he desires (power, respect?) with Salem and doesn't care what he has to do as long as he gets his cut. Emerald, however, has shown some remorse in what she has done to stay by Cinder's side (a relationship that is about as healthy as a heartattack) and even said herself that without Cinder there she really has no reason to stay with Salem and she doesn't think what they're doing is right! Also Tyrian basically being like "if you don't love what you're doing, you're in the wrong field" and then telling them they can't leave - but then stating to do what makes them happy (implying he knows they have doubts and want to leave) just to threaten them with his stinger. He wants them to just try leaving so he can mess them up, which is just the amount of sadism that is expected of Tyrian. Speaking of sadism, I believe CRWBY really enjoys ripping my heart out and stomping on it whenever they bring up Pyrrha. Dang. But as painful and beautiful as that scene is, it's even better when you realise Jaune and even Ren + Nora may finally have the closure they need now. Figures Pyrrha would end up inspiring them from the grave. Honestly at this point Qrow's alcoholism is really a problem. And I'm glad they addressed it, him drinking is actively effecting not only his morale and the morale of the team, but also their way to move forward. He's the adult, and yet, here he is shooting down every idea they have (granted it IS a dangerous idea but kinda the only one they have) and not providing any himself. Which of course, kind of plays into something you mentioned in the reaction: all the adults have bailed. Ruby hasn't really had to alot of leadership in the terms of massive decision making from mid V4 to V5, she had Qrow or Oz making those decisions. But with all these situations piling up, she's the only one still trying to not only keep the group together but making sure they keep going. So she has to step up, and be the leader she absolutely can be. And she has. And I think, because of that Qrow is seeing more of Summer in her now. If that last shot was any indication. Anyways! Sorry again for the massive rant, Volume 6 kind of does that to me. But like always I look forward to more (ESPECIALLY next set) and loved the reaction!

2021-04-27 15:10:06 +0000 UTCOh no!!! Re-pasting it for you here: Hi Hime :) Many things to say about these episodes and for starters, Maria. Ah Maria, sweet Maria, I adore her so much and she still has things to show but she has this freedom that older people who have lived well and who don't care what we think of her, who speaks without filtered. Another thing during this passage is Weiss's reaction when Cordovin points out that Blake is a Faunus. In volume 1, Weiss was the first to criticize the Faunus (Atlas mentality), now she's almost the first to react (while Blake doesn't care as much as before). Regarding Cinder and the silver eyes, in Haven she had her Grimm arm, but in Beacon? My theory is that the Grimm spider that allows him to steal the powers of the maidens, has fused in her (we see a tattoo forming at this time), suddenly, since its first appearance in episode 1 of volume 1 , she has Grimm in her. I come back to the passage of the Salem camp to point out an element that I find interesting, when we have a glimpse of the elements to come (here Tyrian and Wats going to Atlas), it is in the Salem camps that it happens, which from a writing point of view, in a way shows that she is always one step ahead of the rest. For example, we had the meeting between Hazel and Sienna Khan or the search for the Spring Maiden, mentioned by Salem at the start of Volume 4. It's a detail, but I find it both subtle and intelligent. And for the woman with the red hair, it is indeed the VA of Pyrrah, which adds to the emotion and makes us say, that indeed it is a close friend of Pyrrah. New proof that Ruby shines in this volume and again, you haven't seen them all yet. The next episodes are going to be rich in emotion and you will finally have the comic duo Maria / Weiss which I adore, as well as a joke of Nora that I took a long time to understand not being an English speaker by birth. But before that, big hug from France :-D.

She used a grimm, which then went into her body and became that tattoo on her back. That's why she was so hurt by it at the end of volume 3. And in volume 5, when Ruby tried to use it directly on Cinder, she has an arm made of grimm - grimm makes up enough of her physiology that she is affected by that ability. Also, the score for Maria and Ruby's conversation is just perfection. The woodwind/soft melodic rendition of Red Like Roses pt1 and This Will Be The Day are both just so excellent

The writers have said that one of the goals they wanted to accomplish this volume was forcing the kids to learn how to figure things out on their own and have more agency rather than simply listening to what Qrow and Ozpin tell them to do and this episode concludes that sort of mini parallel arc for the two team leaders, Ruby and Jaune. Ruby has now regained her drive to push forward and Jaune has gotten some closure in order to regain his confidence as a leader. Also yes, it was the same voice actress as Pyrrha playing the mysterious woman. The writers have come out and said that they won't ever specifically reveal who it is, but they've also said that it's not really meant to be a big mystery anyway. So by that we can probably assume that it is someone related to Pyrrha, likely her mother or possibly an aunt.
