Hunter x Hunter 1x16 "Defeat x and x Disgrace" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction to episode 16!   Well, I was really hoping this episode title would not refer to someone I liked on the show!  :(  Gon is so skilled but seeing others on the show puts in perspective that there's still some things for him to learn!  Too bad he had to have such a harsh lesson here.  Also, I feel bad for the guy who had him as his target because he actually didn't want to hurt or kill him (although leaving him paralyzed in the middle of a phase like this isn't really helping him, either).  But by far, the standout element of this ep for me is Hisoka's sheer creepiness and utter terror!!!  I thought regular Hisoka was creepy, but bloodlust Hisoka is on a whole other level!!!!  Sheesh!!!!  And I have to say, I agree with Gon for trying to give those dang badges back.  Owing Hisoka a favor and/or having to fight him later is way worse than having to come back and redo the exam!!!!  Yikes....feel so bad for my little man!  Great, intense ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Oh for sure!!! They'd have to rework a lot!! Yeah he's a twisted guy for sure, they write him sooo well though, it's crazy how much fun he is to watch!

I really don’t think Hisoka would get past censors if this anime was created in the UK or US! Or at least, he’d need some serious character modification. I don’t know about the exact wording used in Japanese, but the double entendre was definitely intentional! He is so charismatic, but he’s a psychopath who doesn’t only enjoy killing, but is turned on by it!

Toasted Toad

Ah okay! That makes sense that he's a magician! So then the clown makeup is makeup, not some kind of permanent scarring or something like the Joker. Oh I know, I hated seeing him that way!!! Too true, and at least definitely the first time we've ever seen his confidence so broken....so sad!!!

Thank you so much!!! That is so true about Gon - this is as much of a journey as it is a test for him!! Haha yes I couldn't agree more about Hisoka - he has a dangerous but very captivating presence!!!

Hisoka has a clown appearance. He's refered to himself as a magician. He knows tricks for sure. Just to clarify the random crushing of a butterfly and more emerge out of his hand when he opened his palm. And of course his card tricks. 🦋 🃏 It's hard to see someone like Gon in such a frustrated state. It's sucks to feel hopeless. Cause he's always been capable and never lost cool, it probably was his first time to feel useless in a situation. :(

Great reaction. What I loved about this part of the exam is that you can see that Gon is testing his limits and evolving. He's not just participating in the Hunter's exam, he's learning from it. Side note, Hisoka is creepy but for some reason so captivating. I don't know what it is

Bejo

I didn't know HxH had inspirations from Jojo. No wonder I'm loving it so much (just started Battle in Egypt). I keep forgetting that Jojo is from the 80s

Hi Hime :) When I said some episode ago that I couldn't wait for you to get to know Hisoka better, that was what I was thinking. Bloodlust Hisoka scored more than one, both in this version and the 90's, so welcome to the family ^^ (and your reaction was a great birthday present hehe). Concerning Hisoka, he is the definition of a hunter, he likes to hunt and chases after difficult prey, the more "interesting" it is, the more Hisoka is excited, in every sense of the word, it won't be the last time that allusion to his "sexual" arousal will be made. Being based on Dio from Jojo's Bizarre adventure, it's part of the side that Togashi kept for Hisoka. By the way, about what you were saying about the light tone and the tension side at the same time, it's also something Togashi borrowed from Jojo, parts 2 and 3 are very good at building tension. , but still have a light tone when needed. I come back to Hisoka, the manga and the anime never talk about its origin, but there is a one shot written and drawn by the author of Tokyo Ghoul (fan of Hunter X Hunter), I do not advise you to read it all immediately, but once the York Shin city arc is over (towards episode 59), you will be able. He was never connonized, but Togashi appreciated it.
