I'll recommend one of my all-time favorites: Moribito Guardian of the Spirit. It has a little bit of everything, and most of it is pretty well done: a great (female) main character, lots of interesting characters in general, great art and soundtrack, interesting little stories woven into the overarching plot. Some action here and there (which is very nicely produced when it’s there) but also lots of slower paced sections with tons of details. I think you’d appreciate it. It flew a bit under the radar back when it originally aired and because of that it’s somewhat underappreciated. There is a lot great stuff here. Also, I heavily second Death Parade, saw it in an earlier comment. It’s definitely worth a watch. The theme and setting alone is super interesting in and of itself. Lots of food for thought in this one with great art and animation and just overall great style.

Honestly, if Haikyuu wins the poll, I can't even be mad. If roles were reversed and HxH was left in the wings while Haikyuu was watched first, I'd be super bummed if it didn't take the first open spot. However, that said, I don't care about Haikyuu personally. So, I'll just recommend JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and kindly bow out.

Are you looking strictly for action/shounen shows, or are you looking to branch out a little? Because if it's more of the former you want, I'd recommend Fire Force (2 seasons, 48 episodes, third season confirmed), Juju Kaisen (1 season, 25 episodes, no official announcement on season 2 yet, but highly anticipated), That time I got reincarnated as a Slime (2 seasons, 35 episodes, ongoing), Rising of The Shield Hero(1 season, 25 episodes, seasons 2 and 3 confirmed), Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation (11 episodes, on break until summer), plus whatever everyone else is recommending. If you want something a little different, maybe you could try some shows like A Place further than The Universe(13 episodes), Erased (12 episodes), Toradora (25 episodes), Clannad (2 seasons, 49 episodes), Angel Beats (13 episodes), Nagi no Asukara: Nagi-Asu: A Lull in the Sea (26 episodes), Rascal does not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai (13 episodes and 1 movie, I think there was a confirmation for a second season), Kaguya-Sama: Love is War (2 seasons, 24 episodes, season 3 confirmed), Horimiya (13 episodes), and Interviews with Monster Girls (13 episodes, second season has been talked about but is currently stuck in post covid-production limbo). There's a good selection there of romance, adventure, thriller, and comedy. Take your pick ;)

I haven't seen many anime series, but two I enjoy are Neon Genesis Evangelion (26 eps) and Death Note (37 eps). I like the latter slightly better, but some DN reactors have gotten a lot of toxicity from a certain kind of fan who admire/defend the villain. But both have plenty of fun, intellectuality, and dark themes in about equal mix.
