RWBY 5x07 "Rest and Resolutions" & 5x08 "Alone Together" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction/review of episodes 7 and 8 of V5 of RWBY!  So our gang finally gets a chance to catch up, and the fun, lighthearted vibes are almost too much for my heart to take!!!  But we also get a direct confrontation with Ozpin and.....he's the one who gave the maidens their power?!?!?!  WOW!!!  I'm glad we're all on the same page about being honest, but I still don't hold a grudge against Ozpin.  Doesn't feel like he was guilty of anything too scandalous to me!!  Also, I LOVED the bonding session we got between Weiss and Yang!!!  They work so well together even though we haven't seen much of them one-on-one up to this point.  I'm glad that Yang finally confronted her feelings about Blake....as much as I can't say I blame her for being upset, Weiss has a great point about seeing things from her point of view.  And of course, we have Cinder and co. rolling up to Raven's camp, and Blake and fam trying to defend themselves against White Fang attackers, while all this is going on!!!  I'm so proud of Blake for cluing in Sun on her plan!!  Also, SAVE HER PARENTS!!!!  Cannot wait to see more!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Ah yes, thanks for the info! I had heard that at some point, as well as his inspiration! :) So cool!

In case you didn't notice, Ghira is a Panther Faunus and you could see his Panther claws when he's about to fight Corsac and Fennec. You didn't see the claws before because it's retractable like actual panther claws and most feline species. I heard some people said that he is based on Bagheera the black panther in The Jungle Book movie (the classic Disney version) and the fact that Sienna Khan's name is similar to Shere Khan the tiger villain in the same movie and that she's a tiger Faunus made it more plausible.

tbh id defend ozpin to my dying breath. he could murder someone in cold blood in front of me and be like "he probably had a good reason"

ill never really understand the hate ozpin gets for the turning qrow and raven into bird thing especially at the time the episodes dropped. idk if its because how its written but they repeatedly say stuff like he lied to team rwby and njr but that just isnt that case?? he didnt have a reason to trust or tell them any of this at beacon and didnt see them again til oscar showed up and when they asked he told them. qrow and raven consented to it too and its not like they are stuck as birds or stuck with bird features like the faunus. to me it feels like the writers wanted us to not trust ozpin and then just went "hes a liar" but he didnt tell any lies. i personally will never understand ozpin slander

Lemonkatze

Oh wow!!!! That is incredibly insightful and makes so much sense!!!! I never would have thought of it that way. Thank you!

Melissa Moore

I'm so sorry I never saw this comment till just now! That makes so much sense! And I absolutely love the message of comparing traumas being futile; everyone's pain and grief should be validated! Thanks for your insights!

My take on the bird thing: In a world of Grimm, the concept of "animal" may be associated with evil, danger, death, and decay. I'm sure that plays into the history of contempt and fear against Faunus, and in such a culture, giving people an animal form could be seen as defiling and degrading, a corruption of their human dignity and an act against nature. I don't know if the writers ever addressed this, but that's my best guess on why several our heroes were so taken aback by this.

I'm playing catch up on episodes, but I didn't see anyone mention this: About the conversation between Weiss and Yang, think back to the original White trailer and the quote in the opening. "Everyone is entitled to their own sorrow, for the heart has no metrics or form of measure. And all of it... irreplaceable." I felt that this speech was it coming around again, and basically completing Weiss' character arc. She of course has more room to grow, but if the quotes relate to the "essence" of each character, she's basically brought it to fruition. Weiss hits it exactly in the speech, she doesn't know loneliness the way Yang does, she has her own version. There is never any way to compare how someone's feelings are to our own. To one person, the loss of a job or a pet is an unfortunately common thing, while to another, it's the worst pain of their lives. So I think there is an important message here in accepting someone's feelings as valid, and their pain as genuine, and not trying to comfort them by saying things like "It's not that bad" or "it could be worse". I've tried to remove them from how I comfort people in general because of this show, and I'm thankful for that.

Episode 8 is just so great. Since Nora says Boop means I love you Yang is saying that to Ruby. I love seeing the girls just relaxing and talking it’s so nice. And then we get into Yang’s Blake angst which makes so much sense but is rough to see. Also she has more control of her anger now but it's still there. I like the detail that in Menagerie there’s a whole nocturnal section. Such a sad part with Yang looking at the picture of her team like her father was. I think this has been a big part of her character but this basically confirms that Yang has abandonment issues. I love the idea of Yang and Weiss being more alike than you would think. The story Weiss tells is so depressing like damn. When people talk about Weiss being the best character this episode is a good point showing her maturity and empathy that her development led to. Also the shipper me both love and hate Yang’s hurt over Blake. The confrontation with Ilia is so intense. The girl with the spider trait is unsettling to me because of her arms having the things spiders use to create webs. The reveal about Ilia’s feelings and sexuality I think is well done. Also yeah very much it feels like she is just regurgitating Adam’s rhetoric/ideology and trying to convince herself this is best. I love the swerve that Blake had Sun as backup thanks to her development making her willing to accept help. I hate them but I like the design of the brothers weapons. Finally Ghira’s a beast and his animal trait is revealed as Leopard claws. And that roar is so badass. Rooster Teeth loves doing cliffhangers like this as you will see in the future. These were great reactions and I can’t wait for the next one. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

Episode 7 is so entertaining and wholesome. I agree with you anime food even in anime adjacent stuff like RWBY looks absolutely delicious. It’s so cathartic to see all these friends back together having fun after a long time. It’s great because it feels so natural with the banter and sharing stories. The arm wrestling might be the funnest and most hilarious moment. I think Yang can now do a launching punch and that's awesome. The thing about this that I love the most is that Jaune while having fun like the others he has more quiet moments showing his grief but his friends presence is helping. I love when they use the songs in universe. People had problems with the whole conflict here because there are no negatives to this whole bird thing but they forget that Yang was only reacting this way because Raven portrayed it in the worst way possible and also part of it might be characters in this world being wary of magic. And yes Ozpin is the wizard from the four maidens story. You don’t know how hard it was not to tell you about a lot of people back when that world of remnant came out had theories that he was the wizard because the wizard and Oz both had green color schemes. I really like the resolution to this. Also Nora is just the audience here. Finally Shay D. Mann is having the worst week of his life and it’s about to get even worse LOL.

Supermonaman

Yes!!! Thanks for asking! I'm hoping to once I'm all caught up on RWBY! I really think I would love it!!!!!!!! ^_^

Melissa Moore

Hey, are you planning on reacting to RWBY Chibi at some point? I think you would adore it.

Wombat Aldebaran

Lol no worries!! I was really surprised about Ozpin too!!! HAHAH the Qrow/Raven thing! I'm honored to have had the exact same reaction as Nora <3 AWW that is so sweet, so happy you enjoyed my reaction!! Have a great day!

Melissa Moore

AWWWWWWWW I never even realized that!!!!! Omg!!! <333333

Melissa Moore

Hahaha!!! I'm sure Weiss' time will come, but yes Blake is quite the heartbreaker hahaha!

Melissa Moore

Hi Spadeas! :) Ah ok, thanks for clarifying that about Sacrifice. That makes total sense about Oz being weary at some point in one of his lives! Either way the maidens definitely affected him at that stage of his lives. So true about those words to Pyhrra having even more meaning now! Ohhhh I never put that together about the eyes!! And the blush spots, super cute lol. Yes they have common ground in the way they show emotion!!! Thanks so much!!

Melissa Moore

Thank you so much!! Hahah I was dying during that part with Nora! Guess we'll find out about the camp situation!! And I love the Weiss/Yang scene too, it's so well done and we do get some more info on Weiss' mom. Ilia's confession, too! Oh man, they can't make me panic like this lol, it's not fair!!! :P

Melissa Moore

Hahah for real!! Thanks for the info!! Excited to have a bonus ep this time around!

Melissa Moore

Not at all, thanks so much for all the info and for your compliments, so happy you enjoyed my reaction!!! That's an excellent point that Ozpin must have seen many end up like Lionheart, which makes his sincere trust in Qrow very special and unique. Yes, glad Yang is able to think critically about it all, it's definitely necessary! Such a great Yang/Weiss moment!! I think you make a great point about Ilia, this is more of a reactionary/short-term plan due to her feelings, not that she's as bitter/hardened as Adam. Thank you again!

Melissa Moore

Wait I'm late to the party sometimes, is Ozpin the old man the four Maidens took care of and nurtured in the tale? It takes me awhile to process some info, like Nora and Melissa with the Qrow and Raven thing 😂. This reaction got me out of bed today, thank you. 🙏😊

Manny

Throughout the series, the only times Yang has cried is because of Blake. Yang doesn't want to admit how much Blake means to her.

Jason S

Weiss can’t even get a date from Neptune, while Blake is breaking hearts left and right.

Bejo

Fun fact: Scarlet David from team SSSN is confirmed to be gay in the novels set in Vacuo. And back in volume 3, when fangirls were holding up posters of the team with hearts in them, a guy was holding up Scarlet’s poster. Its a little detail I noticed when I rewatched the show sometime after reading the novels.

Bejo

I feel like Raven purposefully made it seem like she was forced into everything by Ozpin to make Yang stay with her. It’s ironic how she tells Yang to question everything while she herself is withholding and/or completely twisting information. I’m really interested in seeing how Raven was before she got scared off by Salem.

Bejo

I absolutely love the callback to Weiss and Ruby’s moment in Volume 1 when Weiss brought her coffee. She remembered exactly how she likes her coffee :’) Character moments like that conversation between Weiss and Yang are by far my favorite part of this show. I just love to see them bonding. Yang crying because Blake just meant so much to her and she felt betrayed, and then the “I’m here for you too.” Same with that scene between Ilia and Blake. Kudos to their voice actresses for that delivery, it was just raw emotion. Ilia’s confession was so good too, first confirmed LGBT+ character within the main show.

Adam, Ilia, Yang, and Sun... Blake is a harem protagonist! There's a video on youtube called "So this is basically RWBY" (Don't watch it yet, it has huge spoilers for volume 6) that sums up my thoughts on the whole Ozpin giving the Branwen twins their bird forms: "What did Ozpin do that was so bad?" "Ozpin gave me the power to turn into a bird." "Is that a bad thing? Are you cursed?" "No, I can do it whenever I want and I turn back whenever I want!" "I don't get it, it sounds exclusively beneficial."

Hi Hime :) Great reaction as always. Sacrifice concerns so many people in the end, Salem has one, but Pyrrha also one in a sens and many more other. About Oz and the maidens, in the story told, we speak of an old man, a hermit, surely one of Oz's previous lives. After years and years of fighting Salem, it would be easy to say that Oz must have had lives where he was tired of all of this. We can therefore assume that the maidens gave him the courage to fight again or on the contrary, he wanted to leave them the fight in his place. Looking at what you know now about Qrow and Raven, Ozpin asking Pyrrha for her deal before pushing the lever to transfer the power of the fall maiden to her, takes another meaning. He wanted to make sure that she was okay with it and that there would be no remorse, not like Raven. Also one thing, I don't know if it's been said before, but a funny thing is that Blake has yellow eyes and clothes with a touch of purple, when Yang dresses in yellow and has purple eyes. I also love that Ilya's spots turn pink when she talks about her feelings for Blake, a way to show that she is blushing, without blushing. Right after her eyes are red with anger, her color changes are as much a way to show how she feels, as Blake's ears, it's always interesting to find other ways to show something common.

Spadeas

great reaction love seeing the group reminise and that Nora put together that Qrow and Raven are names of birds and can turn into them. Whats gonna happen with Cinder and her group at Ravens camp. Also love the scene with Weiss and Yang, you get some more information about Weiss past and her mom. Love the part where Ilia confesses to Blake now time to panic about the Belladonnas can't wait for next week

Ronix

Blake is the ultimate chick magnet 🧲 Btw....there are 14 chapters in this volume and 13 in volumes 6 and 7 plus a character short for volume 6

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

Ozpin is a man who has lived many lives and worked with many people in his fight against Salem...it makes you wonder how many of those people ended up like Lionheart and how many of them Oz actually trusted the way he seems with Qrow. (Personally I've always been on the fence with Oz, I understand why he is the way he is but not a fan of it). I do quite enjoy that it is Yang questioning him solely because you do need to have a sense of skepticism in situations like that. And speaking of Yang, that moment with her and Weiss will always be one of my favourites, the character growth Weiss has gone through culminates in how understanding and affectionate she is in that scene. And similarly with Yang, we see her finally verbally express her feelings about the situation regarding her and Blake and it's very cathartic. The bee/rwby reunion is one to look forward to. And finally, regarding Ilia I'd like to think her actions are more influenced by her heartbreak over Blake choosing Adam and then leaving, and how Adam influenced that heartbreak to fuel her hatred for his cause, but then again it could be spite as well in some sense. Overall, amazing reaction as always! Also sorry for the rant 😅
