And also about Ilia, I hope she doesn't encounter her turn to be the "necessary sacrifice"! :/ Well said about Raven, parental love typically isn't supposed to come with conditions anyway, and surely the abandonment issues make any kind of trust between them super hard. I am loving watching your reactions to RWBY and can't wait to see what you think of the episodes that are in your future. I really hope that you might also look into and possibly react to the light and fun-hearted RWBY Chibi. Or perhaps the fan-made trailers made by Mark Zhang since they are wonderful and set in the RWBY world

I do love all of these characters. During Season Four, at first, I hated that Sun basically stalked Blake all the way back home, but he ended up proving his worth in spite of ignoring Blake's immediate wishes. And now that Blake wants to pay it forward... I'm glad it all worked out in the end. As for Ilia... To her, I'd say her that she should watch herself. All Faunus are valuable to the White Fang, at least until it's their turn to be a 'necessary sacrifice.' As for Raven, I would say that if you want Yang to take your side, then maybe you shouldn't make your offer of valuable information and context so conditional, and also maybe you should have given her reason to trust you in particular. Parental abandonment tends to leave a lot of trust issues. And Weiss... I heartily agree that Team RWBY and Co. is your family. I am reminded of an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer where one of the gang had her abusive blood family try to come and take her back, only for Buffy and the gang to protect her. Her biological father yelled, "We are her blood kind! Who are you?" to which Buffy replied, "We're family." So, yes. Family is far more than blood. Never forget that, Weiss. Episode 6 is pretty good. I love the montage at the beginning it’s both humorous and sad. It says a lot about what he’s remembering with his reaction to Heather’s family and I think it means a lot that Qrow doesn't even take a drink like it’s something he doesn’t want to push down. Also a lot of the missions that we see have either failed after a long time or been going on for way too long. While it may be information we already know I love how it shows the similarities and differences between Yang and her mother and insight into Raven as a character. Also it’s cool that the more you look at the designs of the 2 the more alike they look especially the tuft of hair which is apparently a cowlick that they both have. Yang is clearly trying to control her anger more but insult or keep her away from her family and that control goes out the window which is good and bad in some ways. Also because it was from Raven’s perspective in my opinion she definitely told everything to make it sound really bad. I love seeing Weiss care and worry about Yang so much. I’m glad people pointed out the stuff with Weiss’s reactions to Raven although she does seem more complex and knows more secrets sure. The reunion is so perfect in so many ways from Ruby being uncertain, Yang’s acceptance and love and the love all 3 of them share it’s so wholesome and heartwarming. Your reaction is so relatable when it comes to the reunion that hug is everything and Weiss deserves this so much. This was a great reaction and I can’t wait to see more from you. Episode 5 is great in my opinion. It’s sad that they’re having such a hard time getting people to come and protect Haven. Like even people who do seem interested are held back by their friends/family. The most interesting part of this short montage is showing off aquatic Faunus with some probably being like mermaids and a partially submerged market for them. I love how Blake explains the reluctance of people in Menagerie to fight it makes a lot of sense. A lot of people think that big important things will not affect them and so do not feel the need to fight/support those things. I absolutely love Blake’s whole thing of assigning a particular word to people she’s close to and they are so accurate and fitting. Also the bumblebee shipper in me loves that she describes Yang as strength and Sun is amazing. Spite is such an interesting choice for Adam but it works so well. It’s great to see Blake’s character development from last volume manifest as resolve to help Ilia. I don’t have much to add to the Ruby/Oscar scene besides it being sad and uplifting. Also of course the writers bring up Penny when I was starting to feel better about losing her. I especially love the dialogue about fear and moving forward. God the White Fang scene is so much like a cult it’s very disturbing. Also Ilia may be indoctrinated and while she believes in Adam to a large degree clearly she would prefer no violence or death. Also Corsac is so creepy when talking to her and I believe he was the voice of Jason Voorhees in the Friday the 13th remake but I might be wrong. Finally Adam is clearly unhinged but it’s great writing to have him call back to his speech to Blake even if it’s horrible. Also the guy at the end Yuma is a literal bat man LOL especially with that voice just some levity for you.

Very true about Blake, she drew the line at killing. Ilia can rationalize away some of Adam's plans, but not killing Blake's family! Hahaha Raven being a frosty Tsundere sounds right on point, I would LOVE to see a STRQ backstory!!! Absolutely love the reunion and the fact that this is Weiss' found family. Awww yes, it's been pointed out that Qrow must have had to deliver the news to a very young Ruby and Yang the same way.....!

I am #TeamOzpin but what's interesting is how this show gets the fans to pick sides and divide ourselves. Much like how the show does to it's characters. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and what they see as the right path and it's very engaging to find yourself feeling what the girls are feeling. "Do I trust Ozpin? Do I trust Raven? What is still being kept secret? Where will this all go?" It's quite fun. Many shades of gray. Not ever hero makes the right call, and some heroes give up their causes. Some continue on blind faith, while some question everything. Where is the balance? :)

Ch6. Heather's daughter would've been about the same age that Ruby was when Summer Rose went missing on her final mission, which triggers Qrow's memories & empathy. He probably had to knock on Tai's door to deliver the news, with Yang & Ruby beside him.

Ch.6 ...I do like this episode, but this is not great writing...nearly all of Raven's "secrets", while new to Yang & Weiss, are things that we, the audience, pretty much already know, so they have less impact than they otherwise would if we were learning these details at the same time as the characters. The only "new" detail is that Ozpin is indeed the one who gave Qrow & Raven the ability to transform into a crow & raven, respectively. Raven can diss Tai, but he must've done something to woo Raven over....I'm guessing she was a frosty Tsundere and we (FNDM) are all jonesing for a juicy STRQ back story. Raven is alluding to STRQ being Ozpin's old favorites before Team RWBY, that he gave them the same latitude then that he's giving RWBY now...and yes, the 3-way reunion is so sweet & delightful. Weiss wipes away a tear because she's wishing she could have the same reunion with her big sis (Winter)...but Yang & Ruby are her "found" sisters too and they welcome her with open arms.

So, Ch5 ... for Blake, she was okay with the more militant direction of the WF but she was only willing to go as far as property destruction. She drew a line at killing people, which is why the train heist in the Black Trailer was her last mission. Adam threw his callous disregard for the train crew in Blake's face so she said "Goodbye", left the WF, and went to Beacon to start a new life. As for Ilia, she rationalized the assassination of Sienna Khan but it's clear she was hoping Sienna would simply step aside for Adam the way that Ghira had done for Sienna. The Albains are basically proposing a Coup d'Etat of the legitimate government in Menagerie in so many words. The way Ilia's eyes go wide, she's definitely not okay with killing the elder Belladonnas....and leaves the meeting conflicted.

And the reference behind Raven and Qrow being birds, knew they must have gotten the idea from some kind of mythos considering how everyone on the show is inspired by something! Oh man, you're so right that Weiss knows all the familiar tropes when it comes to dysfunctional parents, so she can see right through it now. So it's a bit harder to notice just because of how wildly different it sounds from the original song, but the score in the background when Yang and Weiss reunite with Ruby is a piano rendition of "Gold." "Gold" was Yang's track from season 1 that's all about how she'll always be there for Ruby. I'll put this next part under a gap, because it may come off as spoilery, but it's really just a vague mention of my thoughts on Raven's character > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Qrow definitely ended up "becoming the mask" more than his sister did. While they originally joined the academy to learn how to kill huntsmen and huntresses, Qrow definitely took his time at Beacon to heart and fully committed to being a huntsman. And I will say, while there is a TON of things to give Raven shit over, she did also help Ozpin and Team STRQ as a huntress for some time before she came to the conclusion she couldn't trust Oz and left. For a character we know very little about overall, Raven is an incredibly complex character. It's very easy to write her off as "bad" for the things she's done, but overall it's clear that her entire justification for what she does is that she thinks it's necessary to survive.

Hi Hime :) "Combat ready" hurts and the discussion between Ruby and Oscar is really well done and we shed light on who Ruby is (and with her expression, "combat ready" hurt her too... poor Ruby). Ozpin's sentence on the spark that lights up in the darkness refers to the speech of Salem at the end of volume 3, the spark she wants to extinguish. Yes it was Oz who gave them the ability to become birds, two ravens to watch over the world, like Huginn and Muninn the Ravens of Odin. Weiss rolling her eyes when Raven says she's will not be so "kind" next time, she knows very much about abusive parental control. And yes, my girl need and deserve this family hug with her new sister and girlfriend (because I ship Ruby and Weiss together ^^). Ah and before I forget, I also can't wait until we get to the OST, I already know that there is a phrase in Triumph (the theme), which will make you smile (and then the bass is just right delicious in this song).

That scene when Ruby finally talks about Penny and Pyrrha always gets me. The music helps a lot once again. You can hear the When It Falls leitmotif when she starts talking about the fall of Beacon but then it shifts to the slow segment of Let’s Just Live as it builds up to her “Keep moving forward.” When Qrow saw the little girl asking about her mom, he was probably reminded of Ruby and Yang when they were little and Summer disappeared… Also yeah, he totally assumed his friend Shiro is dead, that’s why he paid off his debt. Ok, so now you know that Raven can also turn into a bird, and just like Yang said, you’ve also seen that bird before. The first time you can see her is as early as the yellow trailer, when Yang is about to enter Junior’s club you can see a black bird fly by her. She shows up once again in her bird form in Volume 3, first in episode 3 when you first meet Qrow and right before he fights Winter (you can clearly see her red eyes), and once again in the last episode of the volume when Ruby departs for Haven and there’s a shift in Salem’s tone during her speech, she’s on a tree watching Yang through the window. And finally, this red eyed bird is seen again twice in Volume 4, first in episode 4 when we find out Qrow is watching over RNJR and right before Qrow and Raven talk at the inn, and finally in episode 8 after Qrow finished explaining everything about the Maidens, Salem and his semblance to the kids. Remember that Ruby asked him if there was anything else he wanted to tell them? He looked up at Raven who was watching them from a tree and said “Not tonight.” Now you also know Raven’s opinion on Ozpin and a little bit of her history with him. When you listened to the volume 2 soundtrack I told you that it’d be a good idea to listen to Sacrifice again in the future. Well, now would be a good time since many of us theorized that that song was from Raven’s point of view, talking about Ozpin. There’s another interpretation that honestly makes even more sense, but you’re not there yet. When Yang hugs Ruby the Volume 1 song Gold is playing in the background. Yang’s “I love you” is a callback to Ruby saying that to her at the end of Volume 3. Yang didn’t say it back to her back then, but she finally did now. And the last thing I wanted to talk about is Weiss’ smile when Ruby calls her name, how she starts tearing up and jumps to hug her true family. This is one of the sweetest moments, since Ruby was the first person who helped her escape her loneliness and isolation and showed her unconditional love just for who she was.

Man that reunion hits hard. So much going on. First you have a piano version of Gold playing in the background, which was that song all the way back from the Volume 1 soundtrack that appeared to basically be about Yang saying she'd always be there for Ruby. Then Ruby frantically apologizing and expressing her insecurities about thinking Yang didn't want Ruby around, followed by Yang finally returning Ruby's "I love you", which is all a callback to Ruby and Yang's last conversation back at the end of Volume 3 where Yang was too upset to say it back, which is probably part of where Ruby's insecurity and thinking that Yang was mad at her stemmed from. All that would be enough, but then it gets topped off by Weiss standing alone just watching their reunion before finally realizing that she has a family too, something that must be quite foreign to Weiss most of the time.
