Attack on Titan 4x10 "A Sound Argument" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction and review of episode 10 of the final season of AoT!  Oh man, it's time for more flashbacks, lots of info, and more surprises....!!!  Historia's gonna be a mom?!  Mikasa is a princess?!  Eren just attacked Hange...?!?!?!  And we still don't know exactly what turned the tide to make him side so vehemently with Zeke.  Crazy stuff!!!  I'm so glad we're starting to put together more and more of the details of how we got here!  Great ep, can't wait to see what happens next!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Hey!!! I can still see the original for thank you for taking the time to repost! If your comments ever get deleted randomly/by accident, just let me know and I can paste them in from my email! :D Yes this show ended up being so much more than just giant monsters and I love that even now the story is bringing in lots of new elements and further developing the characters. I agree that I think deep down Eren is doing what he's doing now for the "greater good" of his friends, we just don't have all the details yet. That's what I figured about Historia too, but it is sad that she's unhappy with it. I was totally thinking that about Eren lol but not sure if Mikasa would allow it....?!?! It's really hard to form trust when Eren and Zeke aren't talking about their plans for sure, but true that Armin might be able to break through that. Thank you so much for your continued support/encouragement!!!! ^_^

Looks like you can't see the original so I'll post my comment again. This episode is so good and interesting. I’ll start by talking about all the flashbacks. The reveal that Mikasa is a princess is insane but I love that Historia is so happy to have common ground. Also notice that smile Eren has probably the last time we’ll see that. I honestly love how the series has slowly introduced more and more political drama and intrigue it makes it so much more interesting. Zeke’s plan at least what he’s willing to share honestly would work although like this show likes to do it’s just repeating the mistakes of the past. Also of course Eren is against this at this point freedom is so important to him as well as his friends. It’s so interesting to see them developing more and more on the island. When Hange announces that most likely there are no other options everyone is devastated but none more so than Armin poor guy. I love that the idea of people fear what they don’t understand is brought up because it’s just so true. It’s so effective giving us the wholesome/heartwarming scene to make us feel worse about Sasha’s death and the division between friends. I still believe Eren is being driven by how much he cares about his friends however he’s now willing to go to the most extreme lengths and become a monstrous person to do so. Now back to the present the scenes between him and Hange were so intense and scary especially with him being taller and much more intimidating. Also the whole I can leave whenever I want so what can you do thing is either a threat because they literally couldn’t stop him or saying he’s trustworthy because otherwise I would be doing whatever I want. Also seeing him covered in shadow as Hange leaves was chilling. I think Historia is pregnant to protect herself and Zeke and was definitely told to do so. I am willing to believe that this guy is the father but the fact that it was described as a love story yet Historia seems so unhappy makes me suspicious. Honestly with her and Eren being close in the past and how much he specifically cares about her I wouldn’t be surprised if he is someone elsewhere so eloquently put it the baby daddy. It’s hard to see the 104th so divided but it makes sense considering Erin won’t say anything about what’s going on in his head and Zeke won’t either so it even makes the audience doubt and not completely trust everything they say just makes things so complex. Honestly the only person who might get him to talk at this point is Armin. Great reaction and keep up the great work. :-) <3

Hi David, so true that the comments get randomly deleted! Looks like it happened again, so I'll re-paste here!! "Hi Melissa ! I have noticed that when someone edits their post a couple of times after a certain amount of time, the post gets deleted. I am not sure if it happens only after it has received replies or if it has to with the amount of time after editing. Sometimes I notice a couple of typos and it bugs me until I correct it, lol. So here is the original post.... In this episode the lyrics of the third season's first outro song become more relevant and we discover a greater meaning as the song is revealed to be a dark herald of the themes of this season. Akatsuki no Chinkonka, or The Requiem of Dawn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHeHzy1S4D8 I wonder why the earth and the heavens are torn apart? The world is cruel, yet beautiful.... Between those that throw stones, and those who are hit by stones, there is a fence that cannot be easy to overcome... When the positions are reversed, justice shall bare its fangs. So who is now left howling within the cage? I offered up my heart to a twilight to which I can no longer return... I continued moving forward to the end of the night, Where is Paradise....? The boys that threw stones at Historia were mentioned in the manga when they revealed her past in what corresponds to season 3. They are also shown in the outro as they look down on Historia sinking into the waters. So that bit of info was not completely out of nowhere, just WIT unfortunately omitted mentioning that bit of how Historia was treated by outsiders. Same thing with the secret tattoo of the Shogun's family crest, WIT studio changed it up. In the anime Mikasa was shown an embroidery passed down for generations, to be passed down to her children, We don't actually see the symbol of the embroidery, so we can excuse that scene away as something else Mikasa has to pass down. But in the manga, her wrist is bandaged up by her mother after the procedure, Mikasa is told to pass it on to her children, and then things play out as they did in the anime too. Again, this did not completely come out of left-field, and Mikasa was poised to find a special heritage now that the world has opened up for Paradis. Very funny scene at the beginning with Hange messing with Eren to bring him down a bit. Eren snapping at Hange, she was trying to get information out of him. Why did he put the Island in danger by doing what he did and setting the sights of all the world's nations on Paradis? Why is he now willing to sacrifice Historia to the endless cycle of family eating family and passing down Titans of Royal blood? I think it wasn't just the frustration that Hange couldn't come up with better solutions. I think Eren is telling Hange that he is staying in prison because it is convenient for him now and he yells at her almost to get her to stop asking questions, to get her to go away. Or was it guilt now that Historia has to be sacrificed to the Titan cycle of children eating parents? Because in the very heartwarming and funny flashbacks we see that Eren cares for all his friends more than anything, and he will fight fight tatakae to save their lives. Did he really change? He put all his friends in danger. Mikasa against the Warhammer Titan. Armin destroying the naval fleet and port and killing thousands. Jean choosing to kill Falco shooting at him (or did he really meant to do it?) to kill the Cart Titan. Sasha and Connie killing many, costing Sasha her life as Gabi took revenge. Did everything that we knew about Eren these past seasons change within him? What made him change? Eren laughed, he did find it morbidly ironic and funny that Sasha would say "meat." But not out of malice, it was out of his cherished memory of his friend, Sasha, who had hopes and dreams and carried out crazy antics and went beyond what was normal and acceptable to see it through and bring happiness to his friends. Did Eren also go beyond the acceptable to bring salvation to his friends by becoming a terrorist? Who knows. But Eren laughed remembering the goodness of his friend and her joy. Connie did not know about that memory and could not understand Eren. If friends now fail to understand each other, how can peace be achieved with a hostile nation? Niccolo and other Marleyans offer hope. Armin says they can pass the Founder to someone else if push comes to shove, if it has to come to that. But Eren still says that he and Mikasa will talk to Eren to find out his true goal, what he talked about with Zeke. Armin still has hope."

David Caine - I don't see your post here anymore, sometimes Patreon randomly deletes them by accident! :( I have it in my email, can I re-paste it so that I can reply?? :)

Oh yeah, good point!!! :/ Haha no worries about the two fights, I was really focused on trying to figure out if she was messing with him or had a deeper message, so that's probably the only reason I picked up on it! Ahhh yes, you are so right about the titan inheritance scene. I picked up the surface vibes which were more lighthearted and fun, but they were making some serious points as well and Conny totally had a look that was desperate for Sasha not to do it! Funny thing, I picked this up in editing....it's the same face Conny has later in the ep when he asks Mikasa why Eren was laughing when they told him Sasha died. I'm sure there's some reason for that!!! Thanks for all the info/your thoughts!!!

Wow, the episode where it's revealed that Historia's new "duty" is to be a perpetual baby machine is... episode 69. Woof. Now that already dark and depressing scene is doubly so. Cool. Good take on the "two fights" theory. That symbolism went completely over my head in the manga. Honestly thought Hange was just being Hange, or maybe the translation was different and I misunderstood. Also, I think there was meant to be a certain amount of desperation in the scene where everyone is discussing inheriting Eren's titan. First, Mikasa volunteers, because of course she does, but Jean - who we know has (had?) a thing for Mikasa - points out that we don't even know what an Ackermann is. Are they Eldians? And even if they are, would Ackermann blood interfere with the titan process? So he volunteers himself, before Conny makes the equally decent point that if the modernization of Paradis' military is going to take tens of years, we don't want a great leader dying in 13. So then he takes the mantle, before Sasha makes a... kind of decent point in that we don't want a non-strategic thinker in control of the best front-line titan. So, as Sasha says, process of elimination leaves her; and Conny does the only thing he can think of and turns her reasoning back on her. But the sad and interesting thing here is that when he's telling her that (which, in a vacuum, would be a funny little moment), he's wearing a face that says "please don't do this". Before Eren speaks up and says simply that he doesn't want any of them doing it. Whether it's Jean with Mikasa, Conny with Jean, Sasha with Conny, Conny with Sasha, Falco with Gabi, or Eren with any of his close comrades, no one wants to see their friend get a 13 year time limit on their life. I really like that scene. It manages to be dark, relaxed, depressing, and uplifting all at once. Good writing.

You know, I think you're right that it could be seen not as a threat, but as "please, if you have a plan, tell me because I need to know"! Zeke for sure does not have much time left and Eren doesn't have forever either - so things need to move fast if they want to retain any leverage like you said. That's so true about Armin!!! Part of me wonders if he was going somewhere with that line of thought and not necessarily so ready to sacrifice Eren, but it's still a little chilling to hear him bring it up so nonchalantly! The two are definitely way too close to see that kind of split happen between them. I'm a big proponent of believing in Armin seeing as how he's my precious boy lol so I agree, let's see if he has something up his sleeve!!!!!!!!

Melissa Moore

OHHHHHHHHHHH no that is much more morbid......!!!!!!!! :O

Melissa Moore

It really is, even though I kinda get both sides of the argument! Ohhhhh that does make much more sense about the tattoo situation in the manga! Hmm, yes, I see what you mean - even when trying to make "peace" we see how it's just so hard for one side to trust the other and vice versa. But if both sides are always a little mistrusting, how can we really achieve peace?? Definitely reminiscent of real world situations!!! Thank you so much, I'm so happy you enjoyed my reaction and the story is juicy for sure lol!!! ^_^

Eren, should not be grabbing Hange, like that. I think though that that scene has a lot of layers. First, I agree with your take that the two fights are probably going on within Eren, himself. Contrary to what Hange, believes; it is normal for people to psych themselves up often in front of a mirror, when they are conflicted, anxious, or need to face something difficult. I don't believe that Eren, was flippantly threatening that he could break out of prison with his power, just gloat. Remember he is willingly staying in the prison. I think that his outburst, was to confront Hange, about the fact that she offered no actual solution to their predicament. Right or wrong, it's like he wanted to shake her out of lala land, because time is running out whether Paradis, makes hard decisions or not. Eren & Zeke, will eventually die, & all of the Eldian's leverage will die with them. Eren, asking Hange, to spit out whatever she might have up her sleeve was likely about the larger conflict rather than a flex about whether she could hold him in prison. On another topic; even though I'm sure Armin, was mostly trying to calm tensions in the room. It bothered me a bit that he was will bring up using the titan serum to eat Eren, so easily. I mean considering that Eren, literally switched places with Armin, inside a titan's mouth & the loyalty with which Eren, fought for Armin's value or Erwin's. It stings a little that Armin, would believe in Eren, more, but maybe I just need to believe in Armin, more lol:)

The conversation between Zeke and the lady from Hizuru is kind of morbid if you remember that the ODM-gear he shows her is the one he took from Mike back in Season 2 Episode 1 o.o

It's heatbreaking to see the group of the 104th slowly starting to doubt Eren and confronting each other about it. In season 1 there was a slight inconsistency between the anime and the manga. Mikasa's mother back in season 1 shows her a tissue with an embroidery that has the Hizuru symbol and asks Mikasa to pass it down. But in the manga, it was actually the tattoo, so this was consistent in the manga since very early on. The other thing that stood out to me in this and the previous episode is how the Marleyan volunteers on the island are being treated. Especially Pixis detaining them, it's very understandable not to trust them, but it says so much how hard it is to built trust and understanding between people, even if both sides have good intentions. I always thought this is such a strong resemblance to our real world situation. Great reaction once again! This season is such a banger, the story is very juicy! :)
