RWBY 5x03 "Unforeseen Complications" & 5x04 "Lighting the Fire" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction/review of episodes 3 and 4 of V5 of RWBY!  Ohhhh man!
We get info from Ozpin, training sessions, Yang confronting Raven, and more in these eps!!!
So I have some theories about Ozpin, am I crazy?!  Because I feel like if you're connecting the dots.....he has an even bigger backstory than he let on in this ep perhaps!  I was soooo proud of Yang for marching in and not caring about getting any "motherly" stuff from Raven, just wanting to save Ruby.  She's come so far, I feel like she doesn't need that kind of validation from someone who didn't have time for her, you know?!  Also, half our crew is reunited, YAY!!!!!  Such a sweet moment!  Oh man, I cannot wait to see more!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

RWBY 5x03 "Unforeseen Complications" & 5x04 "Lighting the Fire" reaction & review

Episode 4 is definitely 1 of my favorite episodes of volume 5 for the action but especially for the character moments. I love how Yang was already prepared for an ambush and just did this to find the bandits. Also fun fact now that Shay has a slightly bigger role that you’ll enjoy is his voice actor is dub Bakugo from MHA. It’s hilarious how the bandits had absolutely no idea what they were dealing with when it came to Yang. If you noticed Yang is being much less reckless and more thought out when it comes to fighting. She’s more defensive and incorporates more kicks into her fighting style and I think this is due to her training with her father. Also the bandits weapons are very ramshackle. I really enjoyed the show bringing up the philosophy behind Semblances. Since people talked about the semblance stuff with Qrow & Raven I want to talk about Ren. Him being more in control of his emotions is probably more influenced by his personality being influenced by his semblance rather than the other way around and maybe because of the situation that unlocked it. Also I don’t know if you were just making a pun but in old Norse traditions Thursday was actually called Thor’s Day but if you knew that’s cool. I don’t know why but the bandits Yang fought being covered in bruises is the funniest thing to me. The conversation she has with Raven is so interesting and I agree with people saying it was very much a performance. Also it’s amazing how sarcastic, sassy and quite frankly disrespectful Yang is to Raven throughout the conversation. Weiss and Yang being reunited is 1 of the most wholesome and heartwarming moments of the show and I love the music. Also the people who ship these 2 were absolutely overjoyed to get this music and as a reminder the pairing is called Freezerburn and while I don’t ship it I do think it’s adorable and works with the whole opposites attract thing that happens in fiction sometimes. This was a great reaction I always appreciate your thoughts. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

I really like episode 3 and I think it sets stuff up well for later but I can’t talk about it yet. I love that you as a cat lover realized that Blake and her mom were nuzzling like cats it’s adorable. Also I like seeing Sun just trying his best with Ghira especially. I think the speech is important in regards to dealing with and changing hate. When he tries to convince people to help Haven and their excitement immediately stops its unfortunate but makes sense. There are a lot of people who will say they support something but when it comes to taking action it’s something people just won’t do. Ilia’s story is so sad and the voice acting sells it and her voice actor Cherami Leigh is in anime dubs most famously to me at least 1 of the main characters of Fairy Tail Lucy and she does a great job there as well you can just hear the anger and pain in her voice. Also it feels like something realistic. And unfortunately Sun is just not good at sneak attacks LOL. I just feel so bad for the position Oscar is in but it's nice that Qrow supports him. Also it’s great that Ren being the wiser, more spiritual one actually guesses correctly with reincarnation. The switching control thing is very reminiscent of if you’re familiar with it Yu-Gi-Oh. It’s also very impressive from a voice acting standpoint with some of Oz’s voice actor Shannon McCormick in echoes but especially Oscar’s voice actor Aaron Dismuke having to change his speech pattern and mannerisms to reflect Ozpin. I love how they set up this stuff all the way back in volume 1 although I’m sure it wasn’t completely solidified back then. It’s hilarious how when he says he will be training them that they are either shocked or impressed but Nora is absolutely unimpressed it’s so good. The conversation between Weiss and Vernal is very interesting dealing with people’s preconceptions about her. And her declaration that she would not sink this low is more about honor in my opinion. Winter not being able to help her calls back to the character short where she says she won’t be able to always save her. And finally the end is so good with Weiss showing off her character development.

Yes!!!!!!!! So true! Same here, never would have thought from the World of Remnants that things would come together this way. That's true, it's almost kinda cooler if we never really know all the details!! Yes, it definitely feels like a reunion is nearing!!! So happy!!! YAY HxH Thorsday!!!! XD Hope you love my reaction!

Melissa Moore

Awwww same!!! Love that Home was playing! :D

Melissa Moore

That's true!! Good point, Raven can't be looking like she's taking orders in front of her crew!! The Maiden Lightning was pretty sweet!

Melissa Moore

Awwwwww I was wondering if they might be a thing! So cute!!! And I agree, very wholesome if you don't think too much about the Ozpin soul thing hahah.

Melissa Moore

Yay!!! Thank you so much!! I hope you love my next reactions!!!

Melissa Moore

Ohhh yes I did miss that, thanks! Love that Home was playing during the Yang/Weiss scene!!! I can totally see how Home is RWBY's song, and also JNPR!!! :'D

Melissa Moore

Ohhhhhhh yes!!! Good call!!! LOL Nora being Nora is amazing!!!

Melissa Moore

Ah okay, thanks! I do mention it in the next two, just disregard lol. I have so far to go, can't wait to see it all!!!! :D

Melissa Moore

Got it, thanks for clearing that up! And interesting point about Ozpin!!! I'm sure over time there have been lots of mistakes made....with Raven and others! Ahhhh yes thank you for explaining! That's so sad but true about Qrow's and Raven's semblances!!!! D': Home is the perfect song to be playing during the Yang/Weiss scene. And too true that between her biological mom and found family of Weiss, Weiss is more "family" to her here. Thanks for the info!

Melissa Moore

So true that last time Weiss saw Yang, she was in bad shape! Also that's a great fun fact about Vernal's name! Thanks :D

Melissa Moore

Good morning Zen!!! Ah yes, thanks for clearing that up! You're right! And they do clarify later (I've filmed the next ones now) that word has just arrived about Sienna Khan. So it probably just took a while for the news to reach them because of everything going on in the world. That's so true about Raven's semblance!!! Great point, and interesting about her character! Love, love love that Home is playing during the Yang/Weiss scene!!! Thanks for all the info!

Melissa Moore

Hi Spadeas! :) Ah yes, you're right about those character points!! Very true about Ilya as well! AWWW I love that "Home" was playing, and you're right that last time Weiss saw Yang, she was in bad shape! That's so interesting about the clever details you picked up with the Grimm in Blake and Adam's fight! Good job catching that and CRWBY really does outdo themselves when it comes to details! Thanks for all the info!!!

Melissa Moore

OMG Ozpin is just so cool! And Oscar is just so adorable. Best sides of the same coin. Wow all these notes from the Remnant episodes and hints from certain eps and it went over my head how much older Oz would be. But I'm hoping we never see his original form. I like seeing him as the Ozpin we know. I think it's cooler with that mystery floating about that we may never see with our eyes. When season 4 started it felt a reunion was just around the corner. Like "In 6 or 5 eps we'll all be back in the same place." I'm glad we got half back. Anyways cant wait for HxH Thorsday 🔨 😁

Manny

Yeah, I'm a big softy and that Weiss-Yang hug at the end gets me every time....a little tear of happiness, while the soft piano version of "Home" plays over the scene (the same tune that played over the main parts of Ruby composing her letter home at the end of Vol.4)

John J Ronald

Raven's first conversation with Yang is very much a public performance....she's not just talking to her daughter but to the assembled tribe as a passive audience...thus her speech borders on the theatrical...she's even standing on a raised platform like a theater stage. And she sure as heck isn't going to lose face publicly in front of the Tribe she leads, which is why she's put off by Yang's brusque demand Raven use her semblance to send her to her Uncle Qrow. It's not that Raven finds it an unreasonable thing to ask in the abstract, it's that she doesn't want to give any appearance that Yang is ordering her around. Yang and Weiss have to do their show of force for Raven to have an "out" to back down & invite them inside her tent....plus Vernal helps out with a little handy Maiden Lightning, apparently.

John J Ronald

15:20 Ruby making kind of flirty eyes at Oscar. Love that. Their "ship" is called #Rosegarden and apart from the eons-old teacher in his head, it's cute & wholesome.

John J Ronald

love your reaction to these two episodes the reunion with Weiss and Yang was amazing. I can't wait for your reactions next week

Ronix

Also the fact that a score version of Home is playing in the background when Weiss and Yang properly reunite will always just make me smile uncontrollably. I seem to remember you were discussing whose song it was in the volume 4 soundtrack. Because of this scene specifically, I like to think that Home is Team RWBY's song (and also Team JNPR's song - hearing it makes me think of Ren, Nora, and Jaunne looking at Ren's dagger from his father and Jaunne's shield after it was reinforced with metal from Pyrrha's armor).

cscotch

In case you missed it (especially since the line is quiet), after the lighting strikes in the camp, Raven says "Thank you" to Vernal.

cscotch

A little call back to volume 1 with Ruby saying "well we've never met a person with two souls", the night before the initiation when Yang and Ruby approached Blake she was reading a book about a man with two souls. I love the way Nora found her semblance, "Got hit by lightning, didn't die. Craaaazy Thursday." It's so Nora.

Daimah

By the way, since you mentioned it at the end of the video, Volume 5 has 14 episodes. Volumes 6 and 7 have 13 episodes each, and Volume 8 will have 14 episodes once again. And there's also an Adam character short before Volume 6. That's how much you have yet to go :)

In Volume 4 Chapter 8 Qrow tells everyone that Ozpins predecessor built the schools around the relics to protect them. The schools didn't exist before the great war. This gives credence to your theory that the King of Vale was a version of Oz.

Vern

Oz was most likely the King of Vale that ended the Great War and he was most likely armed with some of the relics. That is why all the other kings bowed down to him.

JAMES D'ALESSANDRO

The Great War was only 80 years ago, so it’s fair to assume that the king of Vale was the reincarnation that came just before the Ozpin we knew. Just so you know, it’s not advisable to take everything Oz says at face value. He may not be the most reliable narrator after thousands of years of making the same mistakes and sharing hundreds of souls with other people. At the end of the day, he still hasn’t won even after all that, so there must be a lot of things to be ashamed of and it must have become increasingly harder to trust others. You heard what Raven had to say about him, and she must be just one example of many... Lighting the Fire is still one of my personal favorites. Yang and Raven are fantastic characters and they clearly serve as each other’s foil, this first proper interaction between them is everything I could have asked for, especially because Yang prioritized Ruby over her even after all that time she spent looking for her, it’s great. We also got the first team RWBY reunion; I still struggle to hold back my tears every time I see that hug. Also, after this episode I can finally expand on something I mentioned in the past. You may remember how I talked about the symbolism behind semblances and how they’re usually associated with the user’s personality, like Ren explained in this same episode. Some of my favorite and yet extremely ironic examples of this are the Branwen twins’ semblances. Qrow is someone who deeply cares about his friends and family, even if they’re not blood related like Ruby; however, his semblance forces him to stay away from them if he wants to keep them safe. The reason why his semblance is bad luck might have to do with his cynic view of the world, this self-loathing thing he clearly has going on and his upbringing. He always thought he was unlucky and a danger to others ever since he was born (more about this soon). On the other hand, Raven is someone who chose to abandon her friends and the family she found at Beacon. She chose to run away from them and the big fight that Oz roped them into, pretending not to care and trying to forget; however, and this truly is ironic, her semblance gives her the ability to go to their side whenever she wants to, and she can only do it after deeply bonding with them, which shows that deep down she probably still loves them and she can’t sever those bonds even if she’d like to. When Weiss and Yang hug, Home’s leitmotif is playing in the background and it’s another reason while I usually cry when I watch this. A perfect song for what team RWBY means to Weiss. And also for Yang, her biological mom is right there, but Weiss is more like family to her than Raven.

fun fact about Vernal's name its taken directly from the vernal equinox witch is also known as the spring equinox where day and night last the same amount of time typical marking the first day of spring

Ridzy

Weiss reuniting with Yang means a lot more when you think about how the last time Weiss saw Yang was when she was unconscious and missing her arm at the fall of beacon

Ridzy

Good morning Hime! so Ghira's speech does happen at a time where Adam has already taken over. They mentioned Ironwood withdrew everyone back to Atlas so thats where Winter is. An interesting thing to note about Ravens semblance, earlier int he chapter Ren says that your semblance can be representative of who you are. Raven's semblance works on people she bonded with meaning that deep down she could really want to be close to others and be more vulnerable. Also when Weiss and Yang are finally together the song Home is playing in the background

Zen Reacts

Hi Hime :) The things i want to share with this episodes Episode 3: I like how each character shot finds an echo in this episode: - The mine accident and the death of Ilya's parents - Ruby not able to fight without her scythe - Winter not being there to protect Weiss (winter not coming) Speaking of Ilya, you can see the parallel between her and Blake, she thinks Adam is the answer and the first word she addresses to Blake's parents is "coward", what Blake had treated his parents when they left the White Fangs. Episode 4: During the hug between Weiss and Yang, we can hear "Home", a sign to say that the Weiss' home is the RWBY team. One thing to remember is that at the end of volume 3, the last image for Weiss was a mentally and physically broken Yang and a Ruby in a sort of coma, since she hadn't heard from them ... So seeing Yang recovered in every sense of the word is a real relief for her besides being happy to just see her again. And one last thing, I reviewed volume 3 episode 11 and 12 lately, and even though this is the 11th or 12th time I've seen them, I still noticed something. During the confrontation between Blake and Adam, when Blake is on the ground, a Grimm runs towards her before being killed by Adam. When Blake runs away with Yang, a Grimm attacks Adam. It might seem like just to illustrate the chaos, but I think it mostly illustrates the characters' emotions, the fear of Blake and the rage of Adam, both negative emotions. If so, I applaud the CRWBY once again, for managing to slip in all a bunch of little details like that, which makes it all so cohesive.
