RWBY Volume 4 Soundtrack - reaction & review

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! I could not agree more about how awesome the theme, Weiss' song, Blake and Sun's song, Qrow's song, etc. are on this soundtrack!!!!! The Weiss song really hit me hard and I think you might be right that it's the best hands down. I had no idea about Sunnybees!!!!! That's good to know!!! I love all the soundtracks but this is definitely 1 of the best. Oh man this opening is so incredible I remember they released it on YouTube when the episode came out and after watching the episode I must’ve watched this opening again and again at least 10 times but it was a lot more than I can remember. Like other comments are talking about I love how much this opening’s theme is so focused on healing and moving forward after loss. Especially the focus on thinking it was fairytale like and understanding it’s not but that you still need to fight for that kind of world. Also once again love when RWBY songs slow down. Also besides the losses in the show in my opinion it’s definitely about Monty as well. Now moving on to a Blake and Sun song which compared to the last B & S song is so much better because that one was nice but this 1 is so character focused and fits so well with this volume. I love how the lyrics are written like a conversation between the 2. We get so many lyrics that are directly talking about both of them like their personalities and feelings they have. Like Blake’s self-hatred and the darkness she feels surrounds her and Sun’s brighter outlook on life and caring for his friends. Also that this song being very much about their story with lyrics taken directly from lines in the show. Finally that rap part might hint about Sun’s past before the show. Moving on to Qrow’s song focusing on his semblance and his loneliness/want to be alone. I love all the references to things that people believe indicate bad luck. Also the many lines that seem to indicate he’s depressed at least in my opinion which like others have said explains why he drinks so heavily. I’m pretty confident that the 1st instrumental part was made with the episode it 1st appeared in since it fits so well with the scene in addition to Qrow as a character. Also Jeff Williams goes hard with his guitar solos and vocals all the time but when I want to show just how hard he can go I point to Bad Luck Charm it’s crazy. Now onto the best damn Weiss song without question. You might remember me saying there was a Weiss song I considered the best well this is it it honestly blows the others out of the water. I love how Mirror, Mirror part 1 and 2 and now This Life Is Mine which is the 3rd part under a different name form a cohesive story by themselves without needing to even see the show having a beginning middle and end with its my turn somewhere in between. It’s amazing how deeply it goes into Weiss talking about her father’s abuse and while of course we’re both not experts on the subject the doubts she has is very much something some people in abusive situations definitely do go through basically believing the things the abusers say so I’m glad you brought it up. The lyrics about mirrors mean so much since it’s almost certainly her talking to herself and the different parts of her the one created by herself and the one molded by her father. Before this much she wanted different things because of how split apart she was because of her experiences but now as the end of the song declares her heart and mind are 1 which is amazing and Weiss songs are so empowering for anyone. The sad part is that when Weiss sang the song which talks about not being controlled or influenced by her father she is completely under his control but it works so well considering by the end of the volume she’s freed herself. The best part of this song is that it’s just a big fuck you to her dad that she sang at his own concert/party. Also completely forgot to say this about the company’s WOR but in the past she referred to the company as her grandfathers rather than her father’s. I think this is Casey’s best performance at the point where you are in the series. Now onto the best lullaby talking about family and what home means to people you’ll ever hear I dare you to find another one. It’s such a sweet, heartwarming and wholesome song and it just warms my heart. It being sung as a lullaby is so good especially because of the different ways you can look at it. It could be Summer singing it to a young Yang and Ruby, Yang singing it to her sister or both. Also it’s a perfect song for RWBY with how important the themes of a family both blood family and found family are in the show. It’s a very great message all the way through. And now to talk about my personal favorite Yang song. It’s just such an encapsulation of Yang’s character up to this point. The beginning while sad also adds to the bumbleby pairing saying she would do anything for Blake. Also describing the whole theme of learning from her failures and what hurts her making her stronger. All the puns are as amazing as they are painful and being a reference to Barbara is just the best. Also I feel like some of these lyrics are making comparisons between Yang and a lion/Dragon and I also think you can make an argument that in some ways she’s like a Phoenix being reborn in fire. It’s such a great song to hear after she was broken down and then built herself back up with help. I also love her promise to get revenge on Adam. I really love the song from the video game Grimm Eclipse. The villain Dr. Merlot from that game is so interesting. The game is canon and I still have a theory that he will appear in the show and if I am right I will lose it especially because of the use of the instrumental of the song in the show itself. The lyrics are references to the mutated Grimm he created. And some of the lyrics seem to be about all of the Grimm in general. Also it’s just so creepy and unsettling from a musical standpoint and that’s great. I don’t normally like this kind of music but something about the way Jeff does it is so amazing. And now finally I get to talk about the Bumbleby song literally called Bmblb. I love the YangxBlake ship so much although as people told you it is non-canon but the thing is if the pairing ever became official this song would work perfectly for it which just shows Jeff Williams’s skill at writing lyrics. The best way I've heard it described is it's not canon but it's not not canon. This is just such a sweet and wholesome song with both the lyrics and instrumental and I absolutely love how it’s written from the perspective of Yang and Blake. It’s a great love song and while most of the lyrics are just sweet and loving/romantic some of the lyrics very much are about a more physical kind of love especially “we can live inside a garden of ecstasy” from Yang to Blake and “your kiss sends my soul into bliss” from Blake to Yang just saying. One last bonus thing I want to talk about now that we got the fantastic Blake and Sun & Yang and Blake songs I can talk about my favorite pairing. It’s a polyamorous ship of Yang/Blake/Sun called Sunnybees which works so well especially considering as people have pointed out Blake definitely has a type. Although Penny/Ruby was my favorite ship before well you know. This was such an amazing reaction and I cannot wait for you to be able to react to the volume 5 soundtrack. I really feel like Home is a RWBY and JNR song. It's not tied to a specific person, but rather to the idea of found family that each character has come to form with their team.

I'm late again... 😌 I'm glad you liked "This life is mine". That song is not only a banger but also shows how far Weiss has come. I also like "Armed and ready", there's a wonderful acoustic version in one of the future volumes. "Home" hits hard in the feelings. It's hard to choose but volume four's OST is probably my favorite so far, not that the other volumes are in any way bad (Jeff and Casey do a wonderful job as always).

Awww well I'm glad my reaction to This Life is Mine moved you, the song really hit me like a ton of bricks! Weiss has had such amazing character development and this song just highlighted it so well! Good point about Armed and Ready, that first chunk of it reminds me so much of her fight with Adam!! And glad I was right about the pun!!!! Yang's puns are everything!!! Ohhhhhh I hadn't thought of the correlation of Adam to the moon, but love how both Sun and Yang are so, well, sunny lol. Blake definitely has a type!!! YAY! The 4th volume reaction is here!! I LOVE IT SO MUCH. Not just the songs, but your reactions to them were great. I love your first interpretations of them because it was very spot on how most of us viewed it after our first listen, and liked that you added the bonus instrumental track at the end. Not many reactors include that, but I appreciate that you showed extra love to the music composers. Funny enough, I have the same ranking as you with my tops songs on this soundtrack. Although I appreciated the ship of BlakexYang and loved that they gave us Bmblb, there is something about This Life Is Mine that is truly special. It is a masterpiece, music composition-wise and lyrical too. I would like to note, just as in the show, the songs also give us little crumbs of foreshadowing which I find intriguing and fun. This is why so many people who watch RWBY comes up with so many theories because of the crumbs they give us. Anyway, I am looking forward to your reactions to next week and can't wait until you start Vol. 5! YOU ARE NOW MORE THAN HALFWAY THERE, HIME! :D

Typically, i think it's best to say that songs that haven't appeared in the show aren't necessarily canon. Around this time was probably the height of the Bumbleby/Black Sun ship war (I mean, it's probably still going, I just don't see it as much). I think maybe Jeff put the song on the album to balance out Like Morning Follows Night.

This Life is Mine is still my favorite song out if the 7 soundtracks so far. Maybe because Weiss is my favorite.

Glad you enjoyed the soundtrack. This and v6 are my two favorites for the amount of songs that are just great. Armed and Ready is probably my favorite rwby song of all and BMBLBY is my alarm to get me up in the morning because it's so cheerful and peppy. Ship stuff aside, it's just a very cute song.

to clear some things up about the song Lusus Naturae witch in latin means freak of nature the song was originally from the video game RWBY: Grimm Eclipse and the song is sung from the games main antagonist point of view, when the vol 4 soundtrack was being released they decided to add this song to it so people who have not played the game could hear it

unfortunately Bumblb is a non-canon song and the funny thing about it was when Jeff was making the vol 4 soundtrack he did not tell any of the RWBY creators about it and surprised them with song, he has also said that he likes the BlakexYang ship

Hi Hime, finally you saw and listened to the soundtrack. Let just live : For me, it also talks about the loss of Monty, with lines like "The light's not there anymore" and the verse "And the story Takes an unexpected turn A friend is suddenly gone We can cry our lives away But if they were here They'd say Go forward You must keep moving on", who talk about Pyrrah but Monty too it's seem to me. Bad Luck Charm : Keep what you thought of the song in mind, these are some things the show will come back to in the future. By the way, we can hear it in the background from volume 3 when Qrow is in the bar. This life is mine : This and another which arrives in volume 5, shows that the Weiss of volume 1, was an image, formed, shaped by what her father had told her, her mind, but at odds with what she really wanted, her heart. It's clearly my favorite of Weiss and all the songs at the moment, I can't help but hum it when I hear it and I have to admit that I cried a few tears when I listened to it again in your reaction. Armed and Ready : The phrase "the hidden eyes" clearly refers to Adam for me, who wears a mask, in addition to adding to his feelings of being surrounded by danger during this nigthmare. And before you say it in the video, I was planning to write that yes, it was a pun, like the Yang / Bang in volume 2 ^^. BMBLB : Sun and Yang are finally quite close, they are two sunny people, strong and fun (and blonde), we can really say that Blake has a type ;-). And then it does her good to have the sun seen that Adam is rather the moon, cold and using a power that is not his (the white fang), as the moon reflects the sun. I'm glad you liked this soundtrack, which finally highlights Jeff a little more vocally and which conceals some very beautiful song, even if for Jeff, the track where he shows the extent of his voice, comes in volume 6 ^^.

I personally think that "Home" is a lullaby that Summer Rose sung to Yang and Ruby before she died. Also, "ARMed and Ready" is clearly a pun. Barbara Dunkleman, the voice actor of Yang is infamous for her horrible puns. The line "now you´re saying God Damn It" also aludes to this, as the typical response to her puns is one of the other Roosterteeth members groaning out a "God dammit Barbara..." There is no protection against Barbara Punkleman Also also, Barbara is a hardcore Bumblebee shipper herself, and she constantly teases it to the FNDM. Just to mess with people and see the shipwars fire wild.

Hahahahahaha that is amazing!!!!! I love that! And I love that Yang is based so much on her VA!!!! The response to the puns is so hilarious.....absolutely love that while this show is so amazing and detailed in so many ways, it's still "grass roots" enough to have little influences like that!!! Also is there a RWBY convention somewhere (when cons can happen again obviously) where you can meet the people who are involved with the show?! Wouldn't that be cool?!?!

Something fun about Armed and Ready is the included "Now You're Saying God Damn It" line. That's a sort of reference to Yang's voice actress Barbara Dunkelman who they ended up basing much of Yang's personality off of, including her love of puns. It became a running joke at Rooster Teeth that anytime Barbara said a really forced, terrible pun someone would just exasperatedly say "god damn it Barb."

When qrows song said you don't want the burden of my name, at the time people were thinking ruby might be qrow's daughter. Roosterteeth has denied this. But I'll still hold out hope that it still might happen.
