Hunter x Hunter 1x02 "Test × of × Tests" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction to episode 2!  I absolutely love this kind of story - having to think outside the box and read between the lines to figure out what's really being tested and how to respond!  It's one of the happy tropes I love about shonen lol.  I was really impressed by Kurapika's in-depth knowledge, surprised by Leorio's kindness (calling it now, he's a big softy) and of course Gon's total ability to read people, situations, etc.!  The little hint at a darker time to come during the quiz was a bit intriguing as well!  What a fun show so far, can't wait to see more!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Hi Spadeas! :D Ahhhh yes that makes total sense, that he is really connected with the animals! And in understanding those instincts, he can read a lot into human behavior as well. Very true that even in such a short amount of time, we have gotten to know our characters fairly well!!! :D

Hime: "I wonder if they're ever going to make this into a dark series" Me: 😳 Each character does bring something to the table. The author of Hunter x Hunter had another hugely successful series Yu Yu Hakusho. The two groups of main characters from each show have different unique designs but he's put some of the YYH attributes into HxH. That's special for a lot of the fans. Oh gosh I miss my childhood! 😭

Hi Hime :) For Gon, it is said in the passage of the first chapters which will be adapted later, if memory serves, that a good hunter is loved by animals. It is also shown that after a mishap in his youth with the forest animals on his island, he became almost a member of their group, which makes it easier to understand how he differentiates the two Kiriko, and why his sense and agility are also developed (and the passage where he understands the seagulls in the previous episode). Gon is a man of nature, close to animals and who bases a lot on instinct. So yes, in a way he understands people well, because he notices the subtle details of a lie, nervousness, fear or whatever, like an animal basically would. It always amazes me to see that with relatively few episodes, we still manage to understand Gon, Kurapika and Leorio pretty well, sign of good writing.
