Hey everyone! Here's my reaction/review of episodes 11 and 12 of V4 of RWBY! Oh my lord, what an end to this volume!!! I LOVED the Grimm fight, holy cow, that Grimm was TERRIFYING!!!! I'm told its name is Nuckalvee, and yes, it took me way too long to put it together that that's the one they never showed in previous eps that killed Ren's family and town. So, it seems like our gang has new goals set out in front of them - Blake with retaking the White Fang, and Weiss and Yang both seemingly headed for Mistral! Ruby's letter was so incredibly beautiful, I loved hearing every minute of it, set against all those different scenes. But they're headed to see Lionheart and he's with.....one of Salem's crew??!?!
I thought maybe the guy was there to kill him, but I guess they are working together??!?!!?
Dang it! More to look forward to figuring out next volume I suppose!!! What an amazing show and volume! See you for the soundtrack reaction next!!! Enjoy! ~ MH

Oh wow!!! Nice!! I hadn't put it together that they were on FMA, I never saw the dub! That's so cool, thanks for pointing it out :D

2021-02-10 13:42:26 +0000 UTCSo the post-credits scene is also coincidentally a kind of Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 reunion....the voice actors are Vic Mignogna [Qrow] (and Edward Elric) and Aaron Dismuke [Oscar] (and Alfonse Elric)....and Edward used to be the one getting called a "pipsqueak" (which he hated)....so a bit of a role reversal as well. By the time of Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, Aaron Dismuke's voice had changed and so Alfonse was recast and voiced by Maxey Whitehead instead.

2021-02-10 02:47:29 +0000 UTCThanks for reposting, sometimes comments get randomly deleted by accident so it's a good idea! Thanks for the info on Nucklavee, and so fun about the comparison to the inflatable tube man arms haha. Love that we got confirmation of Renora here and agreed that this just made me love both characters even more! Mistral looks really cool! Can't wait to hear what you think about Yang's new design! Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and for all the kind words!!! ^_^

2021-02-06 14:21:32 +0000 UTCReposting just in case you can't see the original comment. I love the finale so much but 1st time to talk about the Nuckalavee. It comes from Orcadian mythology which like someone else said originates from Scottish mythology but also Norse mythology and somewhat makes sense with Nora because of her Norse inspiration. It’s design is really cool and the body horror elements really add to it being the scariest Grimm so far. Also the twitchy and erratic movements came about from an animator playing around with its movement and 1 of the cocreator/writer really liking it. I missed this because I never got around to watching the commentaries they do for RWBY but this is actually 2 Grimm an Imp and a Horse Grimm merged together. The fact that it sounds like bones breaking and when it gets even more deformed is so disturbing. Also William Orendorff who does a lot of the vocal noises for the Grimm and is very talented made the screeches of this creature by screaming the word die although because of how it was done whether by him or technology it’s impossible to tell with the pitch. Also I don’t remember the more popular fan nickname but the one I do remember is Jim and Randall. Finally people made the Nuckalavee a little less scary by comparing his elongating arms to those inflatable tube men you mostly see at gas stations. I like the action with the strategy and stuff but it’s pretty standard and the emotional and narrative impact is much more important. I like that because it’s more intelligent that it goes after the weakest person there 1st. Also because Ren is so good with his aura he can extend it through the ground and use his semblance. It’s so interesting to see someone like Ren display such reckless rage. Also the Renora pairing is all but confirmed this episode so I love seeing that stereotypical anime thing of the guy seeing up the girls skirt and notice they both blush. Back when this volume was coming out people were so afraid these 2 characters would die but thankfully it did not happen. Also forgot to mention it but much like you I liked them a lot before this but this volume made me love them so much. It’s great but hilarious that Jaune because his weapon is not also a gun upgrading it he gets a sword sword which is related to the joke that maybe one day there will be a gun gun. It’s so poetic and cathartic to see Ren kill this thing with his father’s knife for everyone it’s killed but especially for himself. I love the East Asian design of Mistral. It’s so amazing that the words of the letter relate to so many characters heroes and villains alike. Although my favorite and saddest 1 of the those is Team JN(P)R being there and comforting each other after the loss they have faced. Yang’s new design is so awesome but I will talk about it until next volume. Also to add more fuel to the shipping fire the ship she’s on is the same one Blake was on and it’s name is Pride so you know probably LGBT reference. Also with this episode being called “no safe haven” of course it would end with a cliffhanger like this. These were great reactions and keep up the great work. :-) <3

2021-02-05 21:22:05 +0000 UTCReposting just in case you can't see the original comment. Since I forgot to talk about this in my comments on the last 2 episodes I will talk about it here. I find Hazel to be so interesting since he’s a villain he’s willing to help a kid who is having trouble and for other reasons I can’t talk about right now. Also forgot to give you trivia on Ilia’s name. Ilia is the name of a purple butterfly making you think of the color purple and her last name Amitola means rainbow in some Native American languages and is based on a native American legend about a chief painting colors on clouds although I am sure that’s simplified. Now onto episode 11 I really like it. I enjoy getting a look at what’s going on with the villains. Cinder seems to be very powerful although from what Salem indicates she could be more powerful and it might have something to do with Cinder focusing on fire when we have seen that the maiden powers are more versatile than that. It’s very disturbing but I love Tyrian’s role in the scene. It’s so interesting to see how he worships Salem and wants to succeed in whatever she orders him to do. Also the fact that Salem can be so menacing and terrifyingly powerful with just her words and how her disappointment is so much more painful to him than physical punishment. It’s so disturbing to see him go from sadness to anger to maniacal cry laughing. Also love that you made a point of something being wrong if you are too scary and disturbing for someone like Cinder. I love the wholesome and heartwarming relationship between Weiss and Klein. Also people were making fun of Weiss wearing heels when she’s trying to be sneaky but honestly I think she just really likes the style of heels for some reason. I have thoughts on the conversation Weiss overhears. While it’s great to see Jacques get put in his place seeing James this scary, menacing and imposing not so great. I still really love his character and he definitely has good intentions seeing him become more dictator like is in my opinion never a good thing to see in someone in a position of power because there was definitely a threat in his words. I’m not going to get too deep into it because you and everyone else has talked about it but I love everything between Sun and Blake this episode. The lesson is so important and Sun does it in such an awesome, funny, heartwarming and in character way. Also a call back is her saying my hero is finally saying after refusing to say it in episode 3. Also the animators gave her a cat like smile that you would see in cartoons. I absolutely love the comedy of Kali doing the exact same thing as Sun and eavesdropping and being the nosy, embarrassing mom. I love how the episode ends so menacingly with the slow steps of the Nuckelavee coming closer and closer. It is 1 of the scariest and disturbing Grimm in the show so far but I will talk about that in my thoughts on episode 12. Almost forgot but you inventing the word Yangified is just the best thing ever. <3

2021-02-03 21:56:01 +0000 UTCAww no worries! Glad you got a chance to watch my reaction! Ahhhh okay, I wasn't sure if they were in cahoots or if the guy was there to kill him. OHHHHHH that's right, they did say they were Haven students!!!! Oh man, that makes total sense. Ahhh I have to go back and look for the tea set!!! I remember him telling Oscar about it. Thanks so much!!!

2021-01-15 13:50:40 +0000 UTCAhh, I'm late this week😫 Hmmm... what's left to comment that hasn't been mentioned before? ... Leonardo Lionheart, the headmaster of Haven academy. From what Watts said "Salem always did say you were... quite hospitable" it looks like Leo has been cooperating with Salem for a while. Cinder's team cover to infiltrate Beacon was that they were Haven students and if Leo was already on their side it makes sense they make it seem so easy. Also in that scene we see the tea set that Oscar/Ozpin mentioned earlier in the volume.

2021-01-14 20:52:00 +0000 UTCYeah centaur is a good guess, that's kinda what it looks like, only way more pants-crapping terrifying hahaha! Awww I hear you, Oscar is awesome and who knows, there may still be a way to see Ozpin again! I think you're right that Oscar is refreshing in so many ways and even though we've only gotten bits and pieces of him so far, he's such a loveable character! I'm still holding out hope about Ozpin, I would really love to see him in corporeal form again too haha. Ahhhh yes Qrow (technically MY man as you know lol.....but it's okay, he can be our man :P) Hehehehehe!!!!! I would have hulk smashed some equipment if he hadn't made it!!!! <33333

2021-01-14 14:53:06 +0000 UTCI agree about the Nucklavee!!! It was sooooo sick! Ah yes, I do remember that line now - so Salem is doing something to the Grimm, interesting!!! Thanks for clearing that up about Salem's line, I didn't realize Raven had been one of the "eyes" of Ozpin specifically, I knew she was part of their team at some point. Ahhhhhhh okay, so that was Salem stating that Ozpin has lost his "intel". Thanks!!!
Melissa Moore
2021-01-14 14:45:53 +0000 UTCOHHHHHH that's what that meant! Thanks for explaining! And thanks for clarifying about the bike, glad the spelling is different or that could get confusing lol! That's awesome that you personally got a lot out of Blake's arc, that's precisely how I felt about Weiss' arc this season. I love how Sun effectively just laid down the law but didn't get out of character or anything. So well done! Ah okay, I thought they had been animalistic in the past, never resembling anything human, so interesting twist of events there! I love "Home"!!! Can't wait for everyone to see the soundtrack reaction, I absolutely loved it! I couldn't agree more about the letter scene with Ruby - it just made me sit back in awe of her character growth and drove home my utter attachment to her! Good point about it feeling as if Monty is speaking through her as well. So profound!!! Can't wait for more!!!!!!
Melissa Moore
2021-01-14 14:43:52 +0000 UTCYAY!!! Thank you so much! Oh man, that was quite the scene indeed!! Nucklavee was the stuff of nightmares and I couldn't be happier about ReNora!! Yeah good point about Yang, I couldn't tell if they were hinting at where she was going or not. Guess we were intentionally left in the dark about it! I hope our crew reunites soon!!! Thanks so much, I just filmed the soundtrack reaction, hope you love it!!! XD

2021-01-14 14:40:31 +0000 UTCHahahah it's a great word right!! ^_^ Ahhh I actually did not notice the theme playing as the airships arrived, good call! Interesting thought that it's "amplified probability" but Qrow's outlook has an effect on it. Makes you wonder if in another person's hands, it might make a big portion of their luck crazy good!!! :O
Melissa Moore
2021-01-14 14:39:09 +0000 UTCYeah I did too! The ending was great! I get that it wasn't quite as twisty and turny as Vol. 4 lol, but I think that went with the overall theme of the season - "just living" and healing and moving forward. Can't wait for Vol. 5!
Melissa Moore
2021-01-14 14:35:26 +0000 UTCFor sure!! Oh man, I just filmed the soundtrack reaction and let me tell you, I was HYPED for the whole thing!! Armed and Ready was amazing haha, I was dying over the title!!!! Hope you enjoy the soundtrack reaction and thanks for watching along as I wrapped up Vol. 4!!!

2021-01-14 14:34:39 +0000 UTCI just thought this grimm was a centaur but its a lot more creatively detailed. Geez. Imma bit sad. I like Oscar a lot. A lot alot. Idk what it is about him but he's just a nice breathe of fresh air to me. We've havent seen him do anything besides going along with Ozpin (and that alone speaks volumes). But I'm afraid we wont ever see Ozpin again. I mean see SEE Ozpin again. He's with us but i miss him. And my mans Qrow alive ❤ Lol
Manny
2021-01-14 09:10:47 +0000 UTCAnd also the crwby team were still getting used to the animation I think, but its very important like you said, but in later volumes you see just how much progression has been made :)

2021-01-13 20:32:45 +0000 UTCI think that was Sirs and Madams reaction when they added Pyrrha, it fitted so well I loved that little clip they did xx

2021-01-13 20:30:26 +0000 UTCYaaas. 4 is wrapped and I can't wait until you react to the soundtrack. 4 has some of my favorite songs, including the song that played during the credits. Don't worry about not hearing the v4 op anymore because the v5 op is fire (at least in my opinion). V5 has some great episodes so I look forward to those as well. People crap on 4 & 5 a lot, but they're both important volumes. People say they're slow but of course there's not going to be as much fighting coming off of 3 where the tournament made the volume basically an entire volume of fights. There was a lot of character development in 4 after the characters were basically broken in v3 so it will be fun seeing the new attitudes and personalities going forward.

2021-01-13 18:00:27 +0000 UTCHi Hime :D Just a things about the letter, when Ruby says that Qrow told them something, but that she doesn't trust to speak about it in the letter and that Qrow will tell her directly if Yang joins them, remember that Qrow did mention the Maiden and Salem only at team RNJR. For the "sometimes, bad things just happen", I like the fact that we had Qrow telling Yang, who then tells Ruby, who talks about it again while Qrow is lying behind her, as if the loop was closed. For the Oscar and Qrow meeting, you'll see it anyway, but in fact, this scene will be reset as it is in volume 5 (you'll see pretty quickly at the start of the volume that Oscar is not with the rest of the team anyway). But it leads to one of the scenes that make me laugh every time and that I can't wait to see again ^^. And for the scene with Nora, Ren and Jaune in their room, when I saw her via another reaction video, they had virtually added Pyrah next to Jaune in soul mode. I believe if the CRWBY had really done this tears would have been shed all over again. In any case, concerning the grimm and the "horrific" side, there will be other passage like that in the future and CRWBY masters rather well. I can't wait to see your reaction of the soundtrack and the 3 shorts.

2021-01-13 17:12:00 +0000 UTCabout Salem's line "the last eye is blinded" one of Raven and Qrow's inspirations are hugin and munin Odin's ravens that flew around gathering information for him they are also referred to as the eyes of Odin so Qrow and Raven are the eyes of Ozpin but we know Raven abandoned her duties and returned to her tribe to lead her people and with Tyrian thinking he killed Qrow Salem thinks Ozpin now has lost his spies/information gatherers

2021-01-13 17:05:47 +0000 UTCthe Nuckalavee one of the best grimm designs in the show its based on a Scottish folklore creature and I like that you mentioned that grimm have up to this point resembled animals but this one is like a combination of 2 different grimm if you remember back in volume 3 eps 3 when qrow is laughing at ironwood thinking all his air ships will keep them safe qrow says "I've been out there and I've seen the things she's made and ill tell you they are fear" implying the salem might have a way to manipulate and create her own new types of grimm
Ridzy
2021-01-13 16:53:07 +0000 UTC"The last eye is blinded." Just so you know, Raven and Qrow’s symbols are two eyes, a left eye and a right eye (Yang drew Raven's symbol on the blackboard in Volume 2 and you can see Qrow's symbol show up quite a lot throughout the show). They're also partially inspired by Huginn and Muninn, Odin's ravens that served as his eyes. You'll learn more about why this inspiration is relevant soon. Yang’s bike is actually called Bumblebee, just like Yang and Blake’s team attack. And their ship name is Bumbleby, mainly so we can differentiate them XD You know it’s good when characters that are usually comic relief like Sun get serious and teach a valuable lesson to one of the main characters. I find Blake’s arc to be extremely relatable, by the way, so everything she went through with Yang and Sun means a lot. The Nuckelavee is our first look at Grimm that are not just twisted animals, and they’re certainly not mindless, it’s almost humanoid. And they only get more terrifying from here on. The song that plays when Ruby checks on Qrow is called Home and is one of the most beautiful songs in the show. I can’t wait for the soundtrack reaction, Volumes 4 and 6 have my two favorite soundtracks. Ruby’s letter is what really made me fall in love with her character, even more so. One of the best character moments I’ve seen, and it just becomes even more emotional as her journey continues and we see her grow. It also feels like it’s Monty speaking through her. Keep moving forward.
2021-01-13 16:42:35 +0000 UTCand Vol. 4 is in the books ladies and gentlemen. Love this reaction. the scene with Tyrian is my favorite of his this volume. That Nucklavee is horrifying to look at and it looks like the ReNora ship is sailing. Now the question is how long will it take for the group to get back together, which direction did Yang go who knows. Can't wait for your reaction to the soundtrack

2021-01-13 14:45:58 +0000 UTC"Yangified" What a wonderful word^^ Also, given that Qrows theme is playing as the Mistrali Airships arrive, I really doubt that his Semblance is purely bad luck, since that was really extraordinary lucky to happen. More like amplified probability, with Qrows cynic outlook on the world making it unlucky.

2021-01-13 14:38:57 +0000 UTCPeople crap on Volume 4, but damn it I still enjoy it. The ending still makes me tear up.

2021-01-13 14:27:33 +0000 UTCYes the snap body movements on the Nucklavee add such a good horror element to its design. The music in the finale is so freaking amazing. Home always makes me cry. If you listen closely you can hear piano versions of every characters theme in the background when they're on screen. Ruby's letter is such an amazing monologue. The credits song its one of my favorites, Armed and Ready, i'm sure its easy to tell who its about! I can't wait for your ost reaction!
