Vinland Saga 1x24 "End of the Prologue" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction to episode 24 of Vinland Saga!  WOOOOOWWWW what a finale!  I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!  Can't believe I fell for it when Askeladd started going nuts!!!!  I really thought this would be some poetic turning of the tables of his and Thorfinn's situations; but no, right to the very end, even though it meant sacrificing himself, he was acting to put Canute into a better position.  Dang!!!  His conversation with Thorfinn was a tearjerker!!!  Also Thorfinn, that boy is driving me nuts!!!!
Every time I think he's gonna have a breakthrough, he just breaks through something in a rage LOL.  Who were those characters at the end?!  I can't for the life of me figure it out!
Great ep and great series!  Really rooting for a season 2!  Thanks for joining me!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Brilliant reaction. At first i thought you didnt understand a lot of the reasons the characters reacted the way they did but by the review i realised you thought about it in more depth. This season to me definitely is a masterpiece.

Oh man!!! I can't wait for the next season!!!! XD Really curious to see what happens with Thorfinn!!!

God I'm so excited for the next season. I've read a bit of the manga and all I can say is, next season is why Thorfinn is my favorite character in this show.

I agree, a very complex character indeed! Ohhhh that's a good point, never noticed that fully in the theme. OHHHHH I remember that girl, was wondering if we'd seen her before! I was thinking the slave girl from that one ep but I think you're right. Oh yes the knife animation was amazing!! I'm so happy you enjoyed my reaction, thanks for the support and encouragement!!!!!!!!!! ^_^

I don't have much to add but I wanted to say that Askeladd is 1 of the most complex and well written villains/antagonists in anime I have watched other than Isabella from the promised Neverland and Eren and Reiner from AOT. Also in the 2nd opening you see Askeladd with the crown hanging off his sword foreshadowing what happened here and a serpent behind him representing his cunning and sly nature. Also most of those characters shown at the end were new but I think 1 of them was the Christian girl who lost her whole family and village during the snowstorm. Finally that scene of everything that happened to Thorfinn flashing in the knife's reflection is one of the best animations in my opinion. I enjoyed this show at 1st because I love history but I love it for so much more now. This was a great reaction it was very enjoyable. Keep up the great work. :-) <3

Agreed!! And thanks for clearing that up! And yes, despite their duel and Askeladd actually killing Thors I believe he did have a lot of respect for him. Ohhhhh good thought, that would make sense that he was inspired by what he saw in Thors and was looking for that in Canute in order to make the world a better place. He's an awesome character and very well written! He gave everything to try and make the world a better place. He was no angel, but that's just part of what makes him and the show so layered. Aw man, I hope we get a Season 2, too!!!! >.< Thanks for watching with me!!!

Ohhhhh man you're right! Sick!!!!

Oh I know!!! You know what, I see what you mean there. Change doesn't happen in an instant. Good insights!

Oh man!!!! I can't wait!!! Hope it's coming soon!

They did an awesome job!!! Ahhh okay!!! Glad it wasn't just my mind blanking out on me haha! Can't wait to see more!

Wow the head slicing thing was like what happened with Henry the 8th wives, but like reversed. 😬🗡

"Dont make me cry for Askeladd"

The look on Thorfinn's face during all the craziness and the aftermath was just heartbreaking. It actually makes way more sense that he never had that growth moment, that is something that will only come with time and reflection.

Our journey is just beginning. Just gonna have to wait for season 2 ;)

This finale is still Wit's most brilliant masterpiece for me. Those characters at the end are teasers for next seasons, the episode is called End of the Prologue for a reason ;) This will only get better.

This episode is incredible, and the show overall has been so interesting. You were wondering at the end if Thors ever said in front of Askeladd the line that a true warrior doesn't need a sword. Thors did in fact tell that to Askeladd directly at the end of their duel. Not only that, but Askeladd asked Thors in a very serious manner to become the leader of Askeladd and his men. Thors stayed silent and Askeladd showed a face of what I think was regret or just him realizing that it's out of question. Then Askeladd laughed it off in his characteristic way, where you can't really tell when he's joking or not. But it seems pretty obvious that he showed respect for Thors and he just reluctantly proceeded with killing him. I think Askeladd never admitted it, because he was focused on Wales and his own plans, but I believe what he saw in Thors is what he was looking for in Canute. Someone that's looking to change the savage world for the better. He's a really well written character. He sacrificed his own conscience for his goals and he worked on steering the world in the direction he believed in. Season 2 hasn't been confirmed yet, but I really hope we get a new season. This was a fun watch. :)
