Hey everyone! Here's my reaction to episode 19 of Vinland Saga! Oh my GOSH!!!! You have got to be kidding me - so not only does Thorkell have a history with Thors, but they were RELATED! And Thorkell actually has feelings about Thors that run very, very deep!
I always pegged him as not being much more than surface-level feelings/emotions, but I was wrong. Makes sense since we were already getting an idea of his moral compass/code of honor too. Also, can we take a second to appreciate what a BOSS Canute is?! He got Askeladd and Thorkell (THORKELL!) on his side in like, 2 seconds!!! What a great ep! Can't wait to see what's next! Enjoy! ~ MH

2020-12-08 15:13:19 +0000 UTCExactly! Although Thorfinn's feelings and motivations are much more evident, Thorkell's thoughts and motivations actually run incredibly deep too! It's a nice twist. Good point about Askeladd!!! Thanks for putting it in perspective. So true that everything Canute does now is part of his strategy and the long game he's playing. I can't wait for the last few eps!!!! Thanks!

2020-12-08 10:18:55 +0000 UTCThorkell is kind of like the guy who is an athlete who you just figure is a meathead and little else. He isn't a genius by any stretch but that doesn't mean he doesn't think about things more deeply than surface level. Comparatively Thorfinn is far more single minded. As for Askeladd, I believe that mostly his loyalty is born from the belief that Canute is the one man who can actually see things through. He knew exactly what was happening when Canute walked up. Even he was shocked by how much resolve he showed though. Canute definitely sees the world differently and exhibits characteristics of self sacrifice. But to him there is calculation in everything he does now. He knew he might have died but that was the only way forward. Having that knowledge and a newfound belief in himself really shined through. We're in the home stretch now, should be a fun five episodes.
