Hey everyone! Here's my reaction to episode 14 of Vinland Saga! Well, this show just keeps me emotionally all over the place! We meet some villagers who have some very strict ideals but seem overall friendly, and then get to watch our Viking crew bust in and steal all their food and kill them all. :/ It's for survival on their part, but dang, the show does a good job of not getting me 100% on anyone's side! After what we found out about Askeladd, I was just starting to get a bit more comfortable rooting for him! The young girl the story focuses on has an interesting and disturbing journey, trying to reconcile the meaning of right and wrong at the beginning of the ep, to be the only surviving member of her village at the end. I wonder if we'll see her again? Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

I think you're onto something with Anne's elation being a sense of relief at the fact that there were more evil misdeeds than hers, that's a very insightful opinion and I agree that the punitive nature of some religious stances can lead to that feeling. Definitely grim but I hear you that it was such a well done ep! Definitely a lot to think about and discuss!! Lol still not in Vinland!!!!!!!! XD

2020-11-03 14:04:42 +0000 UTCThe roles religion plays is interesting. The vikings believe in Gods and Valkyries, & of course Christians with God and Jesus. Back then, something as small as stealing a ring would put you in a guilty awareness. Ppl took the commandments to heart. Mental overload, with a man looking down upon you 24/7 making sure u were perfect. My mother is a huge Christian. Lovely person, but at times didnt practice what she preached like these ppl did. In the Christian's separate view point the danes are ALL evil. Anne's not a bad person for stealing. But crazy how it seemed like a judgment day come early, and her being the only one left. I thought it was so relatable when she felt elated. Idk what she actually meant by that. I took it as relief, the men who dont fear God or doing horrible things. They dont fear not being pure. Comparing what she did to their actions. It's nothing compared to her little misdeed. I think it was something on tv that taught me that and the heavy religious weight was lifted & I could breathe and be happy. That not following the rules 24/7 and not being "pure" didnt make one a evil person. Very great episode. Gruesome but I thinks it's one of my favorites so far. I could be wrong about the message but thats what i got out of it. There's a lot to dissect here. Those are my thoughts anyways, that being said we're still not in Vinland.

He didn't kill anyone even though he easily could have and even gave his life to make sure nobody else died. This is in extreme contrast to killing all the villagers to save themselves. People tend to live their life somewhere in the middle of these extremes.
