Vinland Saga 1x13 "Child of a Hero" reaction & review
Added 2020-10-26 11:26:12 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Here's my reaction to episode 13 of Vinland Saga! Whoa, just when I thought I knew where we were going on this show, they throw me a huge detour! Poor Canute is painfully shy, although I did feel at one point in this ep that he was starting to come out of that just a tiny bit, when he actually started speaking (yelling actually lol) to Thorfinn. So that opening scene COMPLETELY threw me off, and it wasn't until well into the episode that I realized it was ASKELADD!!! As if being a ruthless but weirdly deep and poetic Viking wasn't enough of a job description for him, now we learn that he is part Welsh, and a descendant of the guy who King Arthur was based on?!?! No wonder he had some concerns about the king in the last few episodes....there is much more to Askeladd than I thought! Great ep, can't wait to see where we go with this! Enjoy! ~ MH

I'm worried for Canute, but the fact that he's started talking is a step in the right direction I suppose lol! I'll be so curious to see where everyone's stories go from here. We've broadened so much beyond just following Thorfinn's story now!

On the surface it looks like Thorfinn is following in his father's footsteps as a warrior when the truth is far from it. Askeladd has the weight of a whole country on his back and only a few people even know. And Canute is clearly the least favored son of a despotic ruler, of course he tried to blend in. Taking charge and finding his own destiny should be a challenging experience.
