Vinland Saga 1x10 "Ragnarok" reaction & review
Added 2020-10-05 11:27:22 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Here's my reaction to episode 10 of Vinland Saga! Well, I guess the Prince's first big leadership opportunity did NOT go well....! As Thorfinn continues to battle with his own growing feelings, manifested in visions of his family, we get a great speech from Askeladd about how everything/one has its time to live/fight, and their time to die as a successor rises up. It always amazes me how he can be so brutal yet so wise and poetic at the same time! It seems like Thorfinn is starting to turn his thoughts to Vinland, perhaps??
Also, I guess the Viking crew is after the Prince to save him and....see which side will pay more?! Yikes!! Great ep! Enjoy! ~ MH

Right?! Askeladd may be surprised to find out that his biggest profit could come from publishing a book of sonnets and/or a self-help series. :P

I didn't even realize all of that about the moon's importance in Norse mythology, Thors invoking Odin, etc. It really is too bad that Thorfinn can't think of anything but revenge, even in the light of Askeladd's unlikely but meaningful wisdom. And so true about Canute!!! I really thought there would be some twist with him, but no!!! He really is just a young, inexperienced prince who let everything go to crap lol.

2020-10-06 05:26:57 +0000 UTCIn the scene where Thorfinn is staring up at the moon that is actually pretty important. The moon is important in Norse Mythology. Especially as it was a full moon. My interpretation is that it made him think of Odin. Odin has one eye because he sacrificed it in pursuit of knowledge. He is also closely associated with the moon. More to the point, Thors invoked Odin when challenging Askeladd to a duel and Thorfinn did the same. And not long after that he finds himself talking to Askeladd, who gives him wisdom. The sad part is that it mostly falls on deaf ears because Thorfinn is so focused on revenge. And I love the fact that Canute isn't some secret tough guy. Most of the time in anime the prettiest guy is also really tough and they certainly didn't do that.
