Star Wars: The Clone Wars 1x15 "Trespass" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction and review of Clone Wars 1x15!  Well, if the last episodes were trying to teach us about extremist pacifists, then this one is trying to show us the tremendous damage that one person with a short fuse and no disregard for war and violence can do!  Not entirely sure WHAT the chairman's problem was, other than just greed and being an altogether jerk lol, but it certainly cost him dearly and almost started a war. Thankfully the others of his and the senator's species didn't feel the same way, but dang....that escalated quickly!  Another thought-provoking ep!  Great stuff!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Right, that was my guess too! There didn't seem to be a deeper reason. I agree that he is basically the villain of this story - he's essentially doing what Palpatine is doing, albeit without the ties to the dark side. Ohhhhh good call about Anakin's wording at the end here!!!!! Didn't catch that!!

That's such a great point! I hadn't even picked up on Anakin and Obi-Wan's language here, but it's true that there are so many pre-conceived notions that make a truly fair and equal coexistence very difficult - just as it is here in our own part of the galaxy, sadly!

I am sure the chairman just wanted to have more power and Resources. He probably knew about the Taals there. The Chairman uses his power over his people to influence the Senetor, who is for democracy and peace. That instantly marks him as the villian in this story, at least for me. Anakins praise the end for the Senetor, "most impressive", is the same praise he gives Luke as they fight :D

This episode really shows how toxic colonialism is. Even Anakin and Obi-Wan use words like "things" and "creatures" to describe them. They have culture and language and their own beliefs. This mirrors the way Indigenous people have been treated right here on good old planet earth. It is impossible to fully negotiate in good faith when one side believes the other side is fundamentally inferior.
