RWBY 2x09 "Search and Destroy" & 2x10 "Mountain Glenn" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction/review of episodes 9 and 10 of V2 of RWBY!  Really excited for our field trip with the super caffeinated teacher, Dr. Oobleck!  I found it very interesting how he was asking all the girls about their motivations as huntresses.  And as we could see from the second ep in this reaction, maybe the point of that wasn't to get their answer on the spot, but rather to get them thinking about it more.  Also, doggy is here to help, YAY!!!!  Last but not least, poor Ruby has gotten in over her head - I will NOT abide anyone hitting or kicking her, NO!!!  SAVE RUBY!!!  Can't wait to see the last two eps!!!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Lol yes Weiss is growing on me more and more for sure! Omg yes!!! Zwei is totally part of the team!!!!!!!! <3

Yes, that's what I figured too! Oohhh yes, even the little amount of reasoning/intelligence we saw from the elephant Grimm was pretty scary! It really is spooky to think that they're just waiting out people until they can finally strike....!!!

Interesting! Yeah, I feel like they'd mentioned once before that it was pretty dangerous outside the kingdoms, but this really outlines it for sure! Yes, we got some good Grimm info in this one!!! I was surprised that they can learn, and it makes so much sense that they're attracted to negativity, since we know they represent "darkness". Thanks!

Melissa Moore

You know, I hadn't really realized that, but it makes so much sense! I can totally see it with each one's personality! I would have never made the connection between the inscription and the scattering!!! Ooohhh so we have more to see about Weiss hmm?? Interesting! Thanks for the info!

Lol I like Weiss's snarkiness. They gotta change the name to RWBZY or something because Zwei came through retrieving the team.

So, the episode doesn't really explain why Dr. Oobleck doesn't ask Ruby the same question he asks the others, but I think Yang has the right answer when she says that Ruby has always wanted to be a Huntress, and has always known why. Also, the moment when that elephant Grimm looked over at Ruby and Oobleck, considered them, and then turned away was the first time I was actually afraid of a Grimm on this show. The idea of these ancient intelligent monsters waiting for the day when civilization crumbles and mankind is finally vulnerable gave me chills.

Mountain Glenn is a good example of what Remnant is like outside the security of the four main kingdoms. Even being so close to Vale it was overrun by Grimm. Life really isn't easy outside the kingdoms. Also, this episode had good info on Grimm creatures. They are attracted to negativity and the older the Grimm the smarter it is. Like the Death Stalker and the Giant Nevermore from the initiation. I'm looking forward to your reaction to the finale of this volume, there are a couple of surprises in there and some foreshadowing.

Semblances usually have to do with the person's personality and/or life experiences, they're usually the thing the person needs the most or what they think about themselves. There's a lot of symbolism to them, just like Blake explained hers. Out of the ones you know for now... There's Yang, who gets stronger when she takes damage, but she has to feel that pain before bouncing back, which has to do with the trauma she's had to endure and the strong and cheerful façade she had to put up for Ruby for the longest time. There's Ruby, with a semblance that allows her to help people faster than anyone else, but also be the first to throw herself at danger disregarding her own safety; and there's the petals scattering too, which probably has to do with her mom and the inscription on her grave: "Thus Kindly I Scatter." There's Pyrrha's polarity, symbolizing that she has the ability to pull anyone she wants to her, but the moment she wants to form a strong bond and let her emotions take control, she'll probably end up pushing them away. As for Weiss, there's a lot to her semblance, but you haven't seen the main aspect that defines it yet, which explains why it is what it is.

Oh wow! I did not know that at all actually! So, kind of an ironic name, I guess! I agree, this episode really fleshed out his character more and made him even more likable! That's a good point, I figured he didn't ask Ruby because her motivations were obvious maybe?? We'll see!

Melissa Moore

Dr. Oobleck has a name that is not really fit for someone so fast and quick. Oobleck is a non-Newtonian fluid, maybe you have heard of it. Its mostly cornstarch an water. If you move quickly you can walk over it, but if you stand still you will sink. And knowledge is truly a powerfull weapon as he explained. I really liked his character from the beginning but this episode gave him alot of extra points. We will see if the girls figur out a answer to his question. Or why he has not asked Ruby.
