Parasyte - the maxim - 1x04 "Disheveled Hair" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction and review of episode 4 of Parasyte!  It was great seeing Migi and Shinichi working together!  I guess that's it for the teacher parasite...?!  I thought we'd be seeing more of her in the future!  Lots of strong themes about motherhood in this episode - real Ryoko's mom, Shinichi's mom, and even for a second, the parasite's thoughts about the baby inside her.  Also, it's pretty frightening to think that while Migi is obligated to protect Shinichi, Shinichi just has to live with the fact that Migi could take out his parents at any time!!  :O  And so off on their trip they go....!  Can't wait to see what happens next!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

I can't wait until we get to my favorite Ryoko moment, which is also my favorite moment of the series. xD

Ahhhhh okay! I wondered something similar in the episodes after this....we will get there lol. Thanks about the motherhood themes! Very true, Migi has been very upfront about his motivations, even though that doesn't make the situation any less uncomfortable! Hmm!! You bring up some interesting points about the directives! And great point about how to protect life....it's almost as if the parasites are meant to protect life by killing humans! :O Ah yes, that makes much more sense that a teacher would be confronted like that in the 80s! I've heard stories like that about moms pretending to be the "sisters"! I didn't know that about Jack Nicholson though, how interesting and also sad! Ah ok, that's what Tamiya was realizing there. The dad cracks me up!! Thanks for all the info!

Lol well I hope you enjoy my future reactions! I figured as much about the ending scenes, they are technically previews but done in a vague enough way so that they're not spoilers!! That is clever!

Aw I felt for the moms here.

I think, but don't hold me to it, that the dad parasyte in the first episode is A-san here trying to kill Shinichi and Migi. You caught on to the motherhood theme faster than I did in this episode, I never realized how strong it was here. Also the fact that Migi is out for himself, and that he is a danger to those around him if they find out about his existence, I am glad that Shinichi is not blind about that fact, but of course, Migi laid it out for him. The "directive" is something unique to each species, each with a purpose, a fly has to fly, a spider has to weave a web. A parasyte has to devour humans? And humans have no intrinsic directive? And where is the directive coming from? God? All things to think about as the series goes on. How can life be protected with everything killing each other everywhere you look? With the teacher being ostracized for being pregnant out of wedlock, I don't know about modern times in Japan, but surely in the 80s or early 90s in certain regions they would look down upon it with a teacher teaching children of certain communities. I find it peculiar they called a teacher conference to demand answers from Tamiya, haha. But I do know of certain stories of certain countries in the 50s/60s where out of wedlock pregnancies are hidden depending on circumstances, like saying the child is actually the grandparents' child. I think with the actor Jack Nicholson, he thought his real mother was his sister up until a certain age. Crazy and sad. And Tamiya was taken aback by the idea of motherhood winning over logical thought. It is the love of a mother. And the dad is funny.
