Vinland Saga 1x06 "The Journey Begins" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction to episode 6 of Vinland Saga!  I don't think I was fully prepared to see just how brutal Thorfinn would become with his dagger - on the one hand, I'm so happy he can hold his own in such a cruel world; on the other hand, I hate that it's come to this!  Definitely seeing more of Askeladd's strange but honorable attachment to him in this one, as well.  I loved the English mother and daughter, and their whole attitude about kindness, humanity, war, etc. gave me hope for Thorfinn!  It really did seem like they'd reached him......only for him to signal to his people to come start with the raiding.  :(  Thorfinn's eyes said a WHOLE lot in this episode, and I won't forget the scene where the mother is staring at him after he signals the raid.  Haunting stuff!!!  Great episode!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Yeah, it's intense! Oh my gosh, that look!!! His eyes say so much. I know, I was hoping maybe they'd get through to him and appeal to who he *used* to be :( But no, they were just a footnote in his very grim tale, I suppose!!!!!!!

Melissa Moore

Very true! He is determined!!!!!!!

The fights are brutal. Seeing the Vikings fight and still marching up to you with no hesitation, even with like a arrow pierced into their arms or a dagger wound on their sides still aching to get another kill or hit in. That look Thorfinn gives before running off with the rest of the Vikings at the end. 😥 You see that cold slab shell of a person he's become. I had high hopes that maybe he have some more peaceful times with the two ladies and see the person Thorfinn truely is (I'm sorry WAS 😭)! This whole thing was brutal to watch from beginning to end.

This is a great episode when it comes to showing just how far he is willing to go to achieve his goal. He pushes aside his dignity and compassion because he is dead set on getting another duel.

Oh okay, oops! That's an interesting point about "claiming" the women, I would hope maybe Thorfinn would do that so he could set them free and make sure they're safe! That's an incredible concept for sure, that there were so many battles take place in so many places! It's also a little sad to think of so much fighting in so many places going on at once. They indeed do a good job of showing us the effects of war on people, despite the side, which is a theme that started with our introduction to Thors. Can't wait to see more! Thanks for all the info!

that was not the home of the english family he burned down, it was just a house on the beach he used for a signal. The vikings usualy take the women captive, so i hope Thorfin "claims" the two as his "loot", so they can live. Its always crazy for me how big the World really is, i mean in this village around 60 - 80 people, they got raided by the same amount of Vikings. Thats just one little battle, there are most likely hundreds of battles like this just on england. The scots sure have their own fight, as do the irish. And the vikings didnt only attack the english, they also attacked part of france. And so did france. Thats only a small part of europe, in the middle east and china at that time there are other wars, maybe bigger ones. They do a great job at showing us what war does to a person, on both sides. So far atleast.
