Parasyte - the maxim - 1x02 "The Devil in the Flesh" reaction & review
Added 2020-09-03 11:39:03 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Here's my reaction and review of episode 2 of Parasyte! Well, we get much more dialogue and exposition in this one and less, well, gore and such! We now know that our main guy's new...addition....is named Migi. Migi has a very animal/instinct kind of viewpoint about the world, so it can't understand why Shinichi is upset about you know, all the killing that the parasites are doing. And Migi may sound all cute, but BOY do not threaten it, because the claws come OUT (literally)!!! This one pushed the plot and felt slightly more lighthearted, what with focusing on some more of the teenage elements of the story as opposed to what's going on with the murders. However, we did get a great scene where Migi chooses to stay with Shinichi instead of jumping to another host....a friendship forming perhaps? Nah, but maybe down the road! Looking forward to learning more! Enjoy! ~ MH

Parasyte is heavy on the themes and symbolism of the plot it's going to explore, but I wouldn't say heavy-handed (no pun intended). :) As you said for this episode, we are dealing also with the human aspect of the story, not just the parasytes. Instincts of protection vs emotional connections, demons vs humans vs animals. Higher reasoning vs cold insect drive.
