Parasyte - the maxim - 1x01 "The Metamorphosis" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction and review of episode 1 of Parasyte!  Well, I knew in the first 30 seconds that this was going to be one heck of a ride!!!  Looking forward to exploring the worldbuilding and darker, heavier tone of this one!  Thanks to the fact that our main character managed to protect his brain, it looks like his parasite will be a cute and creepy sidekick....but wow, the ones that get full control are pretty nasty!  Also, WHOSE IDEA WAS IT TO PUT A PARASITE IN A DOG PLEASE?!  I was almost getting used to it until I saw the monster winged dog!!!!!  :P  I have so many questions about how the parasites got here, why they're here, etc. and I can't wait to find out more!  Hope you are all excited about embarking on this new journey with me!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Thanks so much!! Whoa, I can't imagine the uncensored version! This one has lots of gore and shock alone! I heard it came out in the 80s, interesting that it took so long for an adaptation! A 90s style anime would have been a lot of fun for sure! Hahaha those first few seconds really let you know what you're in for! So happy you're watching along with me, thanks! Have a great one!

It's cool you're reacting to this series for me this anime was the very first horror anime I have ever watched back when I was in high school I don't know what kind of version you're watching but I do know there's an uncensored version of the anime when I say that I'm pretty sure instead of panning away from the murder and just showing blood spots on the wall it shows you what happened to that very person like that for me this will be nostalgic I really did enjoy the series you know back when it was barely coming out but something else you didn't know the manga came out in 1988 apparently so for them to wait someone to do an anime adaptation I don't know why but had they done an anime adaptation I would have liked to see what it would look like in the 90s style you know how certain animes had a style back in the '90s I feel like that would have been cool to see and then this version could have been like the remake anyways looking forward to watching the rest of the series with you and as someone else also mentioned it's always funny seeing a person's reaction to those first few seconds to the anime anyway have a great day

Yes, I'm really enjoying it! So glad you do too, and thanks - I'm happy you'll be following my reactions! ^_^

Great Show! Very thought provoking and emotional. One of my favorites. I'm definitely gonna follow this reaction.

It was quite a shocking start to the series wasn't it?? Oh you are absolutely correct, there's nothing cute about having something attached to you that really wants to kill you and take over your brain!!! My guess is they're taking that concept and slowly introducing feelings of attachment (in the non-gross way lol) between the two as the series progresses. The earbud cord scene was pretty nasty for sure!!!! I will say, the next ep is not as bad....so if you think you might wanna give it another shot, you might not be *as* grossed out in the next one lol. It's definitely a darker, more shocking series for sure though!!!!

Melissa Moore

Haha! No, not expecting a beach episode lol. Glad you liked my reaction! I hear you about the other anime....this one is only one season and then we are all gonna put our heads together and choose between the second/third place runners up, so there will be another show from that list here before you know it! ^_^

Melissa Moore

Really?! Huh! What an interesting thing to change up, I wonder why they did that. Ah I had seen another comment comparing the look to Resident Evil but didn't realize that Parasyte was their actual inspiration! Good to know!

Melissa Moore

Nice!!! So glad you're looking forward to rewatching it along with me! I think I'm in for quite a journey!!!!

Melissa Moore

Lol!!!!!!! Agreed!!!!!!

Melissa Moore

Lol!!! They don't hold back during that first 20-30 seconds haha. I've only watched bits and pieces of someone playing Resident Evil, but I have seen The Thing and I can totally see the connection! I had heard that the manga was from the 80s/90s - cool that they are updating it for today's era!

I was expecting ugly. I can handle ugly but that was disagreeable ugly. 😨 I'm putting myself in the mc's shoes. As 'adorable' as his 'friend' is I cannot imagine how horrible it must be to live with that thing inside you. It's gotta be hell. As 'nice' as it is, it's main objective was to go for his brain. 😬 Oh and that almost arm amputating with his earplugs had me feeling so squeamish. 😷

yeaah.. dont expect much light-hearted moments with this one.. :D im pretty much used to those stuff.. (with few exeptions.. not in this anime which i didnt really know there are lol) good reaction :3 im pretty hyped for next episodes but.. still kinda sad that other anime wasnt choosen :/ hopefuly next time :)

Did you know that the main character in the manga never wore glasses? ...I can't wait to see the rest of your reactions because to be honest, I haven't seen the Parasyte anime all the way through. I've read the whole manga though, and that's how I knew about that little fact. ...That and it's one of the things that influenced the Resident Evil 4 monster designs, but I feel like that's a common fact to know about Parasyte. xD

Just love the intro song 😁 anyway really nice to rewatch the show agian gonna be an emotionel roller coaster 😂

Zephyn

The sound effects on this show are the perfect mix of creepy, gross, and hilarious!

Hahaha, I never get tired of seeing someone's shock and recoil of that very first scene. The first things I thought of were the Resident Evil 4 plagas (Spanish for plagues) and the movie The Thing. This anime is based on the late 80s and early 90s manga, and it's got some themes of the era going on. This anime is meant to update it in modern times, as you see the dad reading the news on his tablet and the use of cellphones and computers.
