Vinland Saga 1x02 "Sword" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction to episode 2 of Vinland Saga!  I felt like this episode really set the plot off and running - I could almost see it being a joint pilot with episode 1!  We learn more about Thors' past in this one, and we get to see a lot of really exceptional emotional moments for him.  I absolutely loved his scene towards the end with Thorfinn!!!  You can truly tell that none of these villagers have any concept of war, at least not the same way that Thors does.  It's so sad to watch his whole peaceful life and community be invaded by his past.  And to top it all off, they're taking him away from everything by force, then planning to just murder him?!  Dang!  Why even ask him back in the first place, they could have just killed him there in the village (I'm glad they didn't though).  Such a great ep, can't wait to see more!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

I mean, who doesn't want a huge feast when they die?! Especially if it was in battle?! :P

Valhalla’s that place in heaven where you eat after dying in battle, correct? I can’t say I’d be looking forward to a war ,but I see why they’re looking forward about going to a place like that. Yummy. 😋 🤤 🍽

Really!!! That's interesting, I didn't know that! And that's interesting about the grooming habits! LOL, in the time it took for them to write that and complain, they could have just taken a bath :P Oh well!

Right! Hmm, good question about hiring other Vikings to do it! Thanks for clearing that up about the Vikings taking the land from England, England attacking, then Denmark attacking, etc.! Ohhh so that's why they're so excited, because only the strong warriors get into Valhalla. I figured it was just because they didn't know much about war. Hmm, good point about where do people go if they don't die in battle! We saw it mentioned briefly in this ep, when the kid was thinking of his mom and sister. Thanks for all the info!

Fun fact, most people who lived in places like Norway or Sweden were not actually Viking. Vikings were the ones who raided and explored and whatnot. So even if a person worshiped Norse gods that doesn't necessarily mean they were Viking. Also that scene about them bathing was fairly insightful. Vikings, and really most people from those regions were known to be fairly clean and well groomed. There were even writings by Englishmen about how attracted the local women tended to be towards them because of their grooming habits. You would think they would just wash themselves more but complaining is a thing you can do to I guess!

As i thought, Thors as enough from the killing. He also said that the Jormviking do not forgive deserters. So i think he knows what is comming. But i wonder why they hire other vikings to abush him, and the village ship? That place we saw in the beginning where the viking bathed, that was England, from the name of it its on the east coast, just south of Scottland. Vikings attacked, and established a base there. Raided some Cloisters and Churces, because at that time, The Churces had so much money. So England took revenge, now Denmark will take revenge, and we all know that that is a bad cycle. Certainly not fun times to be around, also christianity was mass converting countrys. Leif Erikson will buy wine, but celebrate christmas back at the village. At that time Denmark was not entirely convertet... i think. As the children said after the play battle, they said only strong fighter get into Valhalla. So that explains why everyone was exited there will be a war. So they can prove that they are worthy to go to valhalla. Valhalla is not heaven, but a part of it. Odins Hall Let see if they explain where people go when they dont die fighting in a battle.
