Watchmen 1x04 "If You Don't Like My Story, Write Your Own" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction and review of episode 4 of Watchmen!  Wow, we get some new concepts in this one, such as lake babies, a massive clock, etc.!  I enjoyed meeting Lady Trieu and am now finally starting to sense the connection between everything - so Will is with her, and they're planning something huge??  Also, who was the slippery man?!  What's in the pill bottle?!  Can't wait to find out!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Thank you so much for clearing that up about the titles!!! That makes so much sense. Now that I know, I can see what a great tie-in the first title is to that particular scene! Very interesting about the painting, as well as the implications of paintings in Native American culture - I didn't know that! Okay, so for the third title........after the last few scenes of that ep, I was kinda wondering about the "space junk" and if it had anything to do with what we saw!! :P A cheeky title for sure, but also has a sort of sad overtone when it comes to the effect Dr. Manhattan had on Laurie's life. Lastly, good to know about the book quote! I agree that Cal is an awesome husband - supportive but also determined to not be pushed away like you said. I really appreciate all the info!!!!!! Really loving this series!!!

Okay! So the titles. The first title "It's Summer and We're Running Out of Ice" is lyrics from the song being sung when Angela finds Judd hanging in the tree. It's called "Poor Judd is Daid" and is from the musical Oklahoma! which was being performed at the beginning of the episode. Nice tie in. Give it a listen. Second title "Martial Feats of Comanche Horsemanship" is the name of a painting that was hung in Judd's home featuring the literal Comanche warriors hunting by horseback. Paintings featuring Native American culture are seen to be very intrusive to their culture and hold certain imperialist tones. Third title is....a joke. :) "She Was Killed by Space Junk." If you forgive my dirty words, you don't get over BBC, that is "Big Blue Cock" very quickly. Falling in love with Dr. Manhattan was the beginning of the end of Laurie's life. Also a play on the fall of the giant squid. If any of her old self was left after her talk with Manhattan on Mars, it was burned away by the falling of the giant squid and the final compromise of her youthful ideals. Laurie is a ghost. Living in the past as much as she tries to deny it. Today's title is just a quote from the book that Cal was reading when Angela was trying to pick a fight with him. He's a very understanding husband. They make a good pair, as they seem to be natural opposites, but he doesn't allow her to push him away when she is feeling anxious and vulnerable. He's a steady, unmovable sort of man.
