Looking for Movie Recommendations!

Hey everyone!  I have an exciting proposal!!!  I'm looking for movie recommendations - I'll take these recommendations and turn them into a quick, easy poll in the next day or so!  My plan is to film this movie later in the week, and release it on July 1 in my "Now, It's Showtime" tier!  For those in the US, you know that the end of that week kicks off the 4th of July weekend; and for all my friends in other countries, it could be a fun way to celebrate the start of a new month!

Feel free to recommend live action or anime movies, pretty much any genre, although I have a feeling it will skew towards anime and live-action versions of anime haha, since we all love our anime so much here in Hime-land!  ^_^

It's hard to describe the movies I've seen because I've seen so many, but basically if it's a huge superhero or action franchise, I've probably seen it lol.  As far as anime and live action go, I've never seen Your Name (!!!) and I've seen some Studio Ghibli movies but not all.  I've seen the live action versions of Bleach, Tokyo Ghoul, and the first Kenshin movie, but I will confess that I am DYING to see the next two Kenshin movies ;)  (Take a wild guess why, haha!)

Alright, I'm excited to see what you folks have to suggest!!!!  Thank you in advance for all your help in choosing this next fun watching adventure for me!

I actually love Ready Player One, I've seen the movie and read the book! XD I haven't seen the Broly movie though, you're right!!!! Thanks!

Melissa Moore

Thank you for taking the time to create such an in-depth list! I've actually never seen any of those movies but have heard of "Pan's Labyrinth" and "Shape of the Water"! Also, thank you so much for your kind words about my channel, it makes me so happy to hear that and I'm really glad you're enjoying my reactions!!! ^_^

Melissa Moore

Those are my favourite movies of all time. I'm going to assume she's seen them but if not, I'd even vote for them over Your Name!

RationallySassy

I dont know if you seen this but what about ready player one its a pretty great movie either that or dragon ball super broly you had mentioned you hadn't seen it so i thought why not give it a chance

Sirghostfreak

As a cinema student I'd like to propose some wild-card options, namely foreign movies that I think are most definitely worth a watch if you don't mind deviating from the channel's anime roots: First, I'd like to propose Guillermo del Toro's "Pan's Labyrinth" which might be his best work including the Oscar winning "Shape of the Water". I don't know if you've already seen it but it's a film I hold very dear in my heart. It's definitely one of the most interesting takes on fairy tales, mixing both the innocence and imagination of a child and the dark and realistic elements of war. The film does an amazing job with its nostalgic tone, you feel a kid-like sense of wonder and fear at the fantastic elements and characters, all while remaining one of the most grounded and real dramas I've seen. As long as you don't mind it being in Spanish with English subtitles and some surprisingly dark scenes, I think it is one of the most memorable films I've watched. On the other hand "Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" or "Amélie" is also an incredible piece of art. It is definitely more light-hearted both in its tone and its subject matter, the film being about a girl who discovers her purpose in life is to make people happy and become brave enough to be happy herself by finding love. Although the premise seems extremely simple, I think the way this movie explores its themes is one of the most thought-provoking and smartest ways any film has touched upon the subject of love and happiness. It's extremely quirky and whimsical in its own charming and irresistibly Parisian way, There are many fun and amusing movies out there, but this is a film that makes you feel good all the way to the soul. Again this one is in French but I think it adds to its unique charm. I think both films are incredible in their own right and after watching your channel for a while, I really think you'd enjoy them on a personal level. I do, however, think that "Pan's Labyrinth" has excellent potential for reactions and commentary, especially considering "Amélie" is subtler and although very comical and entertaining it might be the most different to the channel's typical content. In any case even if you don't choose them I definitely recommend watching them. P.S. I love your channel, your personality is very bubbly and upbeat! It makes me relive the emotions I felt watching those series and animes for the first time.

The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Daniel Mulladzhanov

Thanks! I've seen Spirited Away but haven't seen Princess Mononoke in forever and don't remember much about it, so I think it's gonna make the poll!!

Melissa Moore

I don't think I've seen either one of those! Thanks!

Melissa Moore

YESSSSSS <33333 I was going to spontaneously combust if I didn't get at least one recommendation for a movie starring Phillip or Ryotaro, seeing as how they've both been in a lot of movies after Kamen Rider lol. (Hence why I mentioned the Kenshin movies in y post XD)

Melissa Moore

Ahhh I love both these movies so much! But I've seen them!!! >.<

Melissa Moore

Thank you so much for taking the time to put together this comprehensive list of movies that mean so much to you! You know what's crazy? I've NEVER seen 2001!!! :O And I'm a huge sci-fi junkie! Isn't that crazy?! I've seen many, many of the ones you listed, but not all! I've seen Spirited Away but saw Princess Mononoke so long ago that I don't remember anything. I'm thinking of throwing it on the poll!!! Thank you again!

Melissa Moore

I was going to put Forrest Gump in my movie list too but I thought my list was too long already! Glad you put it on The other anime movies you put are great too

RationallySassy

I've seen it, but it was a really long time ago and I feel like I could go in and react to it almost fresh!!!! I don't remember much about it (a horrible thing to say, I know....but you see how good my memory is on things I've watched in the last few weeks, let alone several years haha)!!!! Thanks!

Melissa Moore

Hahah awesome! Thank you so much! It's so tough with movies because I've seen a LOT!!! I'm not positive about World War Z or Pleasantville, but I've definitely seen all the rest except for Your Name and About Time!!!! I have a feeling that Your Name is making it into the poll!!! XD

Melissa Moore

If it'll involve the 4th of July why not Forrest Gump, it's not anime but Forrest is one of the sweetest and most innocent characters you'll find. Animation wise Megamind is very underrated and you probably haven't seen it. As for anime, I'd say Summer Wars, Wolf Children, or Boy and the Beast .

The Princess Bride, a romantic comedy, it has so many quoteable sczenes, that are use to this day Robin Hood: Men in thights, another comedy, by mel brooks. One of my most favorite movies

Kevin

I know this film Has little to do with Anime but it is really a special film that I think You will enjoy. I believe it is generally overlooked but I do feel it would be something directly in the tastes of something You would like. : “(2001) A.I. Artificial Intelligence”. I never hear anyone generally talk about this film. I suppose it is not as popular as many of other blockbuster films. To my knowledge I would consider it a hidden Gem that You would enjoy. ———— I have a number of other suggestions and I have tried to include films (If You have not already seen them) that I personally enjoy, that I think You would too! : ) - A Few other suggestions (In No Specific Order) include; > “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” “Spirited Away” (Although You may have seen this one already) “Where the Wild Things Are” “Princess Mononoke” (In case If You have already seen spirited away) “Léon: The Professional” “Life of Pi” (2012) “The Last Samurai” “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World” “War of the Worlds” (2004) “Secret Window” ( - The Films Following The above listed films (Below); May not be to everyones’ tastes, although In my eyes are great films none-the-less. Possibly to view on Your own time If You ever come around to them. > “Gattaca” “Empire Of The Sun” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” “Gandhi” “The Aviator” (2004) “French Kiss” “The Big Blue” “Ed Wood” “Interview with the Vampire” “Coraline” (2009) - Finally there are the following Honorable Mentions along the lines of the second ’Possibly Not For Everyone/All’ list. I have tried to choose films I think You would enjoy. > “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” “Minority Report” “Edward Scissorhands” ———— There are films I consider to be very ‘sacred’ (if You will) that are not ‘live-action’ but mostly anime (Those of which I Have ‘NOT’ Listed here) and animated films. They are the kind of films I would really recommend watching Really taking time to make an event of personally, They are rather special gems to me. Again I have not listed them here.

A silent voice by Kyoto Animation

Mononke Hime if you haven't seen it as it is one of my all time favorite films (of all time! to be redundant) but I think you may have said you saw this already?

Anna Kyruin

Redline

Alright I'm back from work! You've probably seen most of these and I could list so much more (haha) but: Your Name About Time The Prestige World War Z Scream The Princess Bride Pleasantville Alien/s The Dark Knight series Kiki's Delivery Service Spirited Away/Howl's Moving Castle

RationallySassy

My little monster starring w's own phillip

Sifer123

Not anime, but plenty of Japan in there. I had a lot fun watching it recently, I hadn't seen it before. Isle of Dogs. As for a non-animation movie, The Prestige, it might be Nolan's best one for me, but it's all subjective of course.

David Caine

Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away are solid picks if you haven't seen them both.

Xan Acktor

Oooh I'm not sure I've ever heard of that one! Thanks!

Melissa Moore

Ahhh I've seen it already but really enjoyed it!!! No worries, good luck at work and looking forward to hearing more later!

Melissa Moore

Mad Max Fury Road ! I'm currently at work so I'll add more later, haha

RationallySassy

Paprika is phenomenal as well, as far as examples of unparalleled animation, just be ready for the psychological impact, as it is very uncomfortable at times.

Anna Kyruin

OMG I have seen both and absolutely adore them!!!!!!!! Kamen Rider: The Next is just an amazing movie in general, like even if you're not into Kamen Rider!! XD So sorry I can't react to them!!!

Melissa Moore

Hahaha you know me too well!!! XD Thank you!

Melissa Moore

Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms ❤️

Marduc

A Silent Voice!

You should watch Kamen Rider: The First, and possibly follow that up with Kamen Rider: The Next. The First skews more like J-Drama, and The Next more action.

a silent voice :) is a must

m dunt

You should definitely watch Your Name and A Silent Voice!!! I'm excited to see your emotional reactions 😅

Czar

Ohhhhhhh now you're talking! I LOVE Godzilla!!! I'm at a complete blank as to which ones I've seen! >.< I watched Final Wars recently, that's probably the only one that would be too fresh for me to react to. The others have been so long that I've forgotten most of the details :O

Melissa Moore

Oh... perhaps a Godzilla movie would be nice!
