The Promised Neverland 1x12 "150146" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction to episode 12!  The finale is here.......!!!  Can we all agree that Phil is like the most amazing child EVER?!  The decision was a tough one but made so much sense, and I look forward to the day when the younger kids and kids from the other plant have their day to escape!  Also our kids are GENIUSES because they took my Tarzan swing idea and turned it into ZIP LINES!!!!!  That scene with Emma...I don't think I've ever been so scared and on edge in my life....but Mom's actions surprised me.  And of course, they dragged me through the mud and made me feel sorry for Mom!!  Now I feel bad about saying all that terrible stuff lol.  It goes to show that in many cases, underneath every awful person is a hurting child.  WHAT A SHOW!!!!  My babies are finally free and I can't wait to see how they get past the next hurdle!  Thank you all for joining me for this epic season, I had a blast with it!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Oh nice! Glad you found my reactions! And so glad you enjoyed them! Ahhh okay, well, I suppose in terms of spoilers, that was one that they get out of the way fairly quickly on the show, at least! Me too - they kept faking me out about Norman and I still haven't lost hope! Oh lord, I'm right there with you about Ray. As it turns out, I'm finishing up one show just in time to start Promised Neverland when it airs in January!!! I cannot wait! Thank you so much for watching with me!!!!!!

Melissa Moore

I am very late to the party, but I just finished this show myself a few days ago. I didn't realize you had already reviewed it. One of my favorite animes now, and I immensely enjoyed watching every video of yours. This show is really well written and watching it along with you again was a treat. Unfortunately, I was spoiled and knew the orphanage was a human farm before starting but I still immensely enjoyed the twists and turns of the story. I too am hopeful that Norman is still alive as I still haven't accepted his death if that is truly what we saw. Also I honestly thought that Ray had killed himself in the fire and that only Emma would escape with everyone. I'm glad I was wrong. We are only a few days ( two weeks exactly I think) from the 2nd season and I can't wait! I look forward to being caught up this time and watching the 2nd season with you!

Wow!!! Thank you so much for binge watching my reactions after finishing the series!!! XD So true about Isabella, I should have known they'd make me feel terrible for hating her the whole series lol, but it goes to show that under every despicable person is usually a tragic past. It was such a great touch and totally reshapes the whole story in a way. I'm so happy you loved my reactions!!!! Yay!!!! I'll be counting down to more TPN along with ya!!! XD

Melissa Moore

I know this video is already a month old now, but after watching all twelve episodes and all twelve of your videos in the span of just two days, I can’t help but leave a comment here. This season finale is amazing! Seeing Isabella as a child contemplating escaping herself and losing her close friend probably knowing what was going to happen to him, it shows that even though she did despicable things as the mom, she knew how the children felt. She knew how Emma felt when she lost Norman. I think you’re totally right when you say that she cares for the kids, because she’s been there herself. It’s truly incredible to see. Loved the season, loved the reactions, and I can’t wait for more!!!

Jaeger

Oh wow, I didn't even realize the irony until now!!! XD Thank you so much, I'm so happy you love my reactions!!!!!!!! ^_^

Melissa Moore

A parent watching their child achieve a dream they themselves couldn't achieve while wearing a todoroki shirt. I love the reactions! :)

Ryan Sirmais

Thank you so much, I hope you loved my reactions!!! I couldn't agree more about the characters! Thank you for watching with me! Ahhh, I think I've seen Erased!!! >.< It was a while ago but I remember loving it. Unless of course it was an anime by the same name. I'll have to check! Thank you again :D

Melissa Moore

Yeah very true!!! I have to say though, it was so rewarding to see them get a win after all they'd been through!!!!!!

Melissa Moore

It was so great rewatching this great anime with you as you discovered its characters and what it had to offer. All the characters were amazing in their own way, Emma, Norman, Ray, Mom, Phil, Don, Gilda, Krone. And the little we saw of the other small ones. Not much more I can add other than thank you for watching and taking us along. I hope in the future you can add Erased (The Town without Me) to your queue of shows, another great 12 episode anime about childhood and what can be accomplished by one's heartfelt, sincere yearnings and desires.

David Caine

Well that was something. Honestly after the initial episode I was expecting this series to be much more gruesome, but we got away with a mostly triumphant ending.

ThatMortimer

Scotty - Great point about taking down the evidence! And also really good point about her letting Norman explore. I'm sure the more validation she got on escape being impossible, the better for her own psyche. Ahhhhhh yes, great comparison to the demons on Demon Slayer. It really goes to show that no one is black-and-white bad when you get down to it, even people doing really bad things have a story, you know? I should have known that when I was yelling uncharitable things at the screen at her LOL but oh well!!!

Melissa Moore

It's not sappy, it's really true!!!!!!!!! You made a great point here; I think watching the kids escape reached her at a level she hadn't felt in a really long time. Awwwww Phil!!!!!!! BEST BOI EVER!!!! I know he'll do a great job until they come back for him someday soon!!!!!!!! XD

Melissa Moore

You said it!!!!!!! Yeah, it really hooks you from the beginning!! Yeah, the backstory on Isabella really did have me conflicted!!! I should know by now that there are no black-and-white "bad" guys in anime, period! >.< Yay Phil!!! Enjoy the manga, thanks for being awesome about not spoiling anything!!! I don't blame you, I heard s2 was delayed!!! >.< Thank you so much, I really appreciate it and I hope you had a blast watching along with me!!!!!!!! ^_^

Melissa Moore

YAY!!! Thank you!! I hope you love my future reactions! ^_^

Melissa Moore

Preston - thanks for watching with me, yay!!! LOL okay...so am I the only one who didn't quite put it together that Norman LIKED liked Emma? Cause I thought maybe they were hinting at that...but couldn't tell if it was a crush/love or just strong friendship/familial bonds. Oops! Thanks for clearing it up about Leslie too. Ohhh excellent point that the lullaby was her way of steeling herself up for doing these harsh things. This world is so messed up, it's definitely tragic for the moms as well, despite my anger and rage towards Isabella for most of this season LOL. I can see how it would have greatly twisted her, but even if it's under the bizarre and sick circumstances of this world, she did love her children. So that's why her farm was the best! Thank you for sharing the inner monologues from the manga! I think seeing/hearing that along the way would do a bit to enhance her character earlier on!

Melissa Moore

Yay, I got it right! I just edited that ep for YouTube and I noticed the line about how Isabella shouldn't know. It had zero context to me at the time, but now it makes so much sense! That was a big move for her to take down the evidence for them. Phil's Best Boi!!! Oh wow, I can't believe the manga is ending soon! Great point about the lullaby, they did an excellent job of ingraining that into the show from the start. Such a beautifully done show! Thanks for watching with me!!!

Melissa Moore

Hahah yeah I see what you mean! I'm sure it's hard to find actors in that actual age range (11-12) who can handle such an intense role....but those kids are clearly like 16+ lol!!! Thanks for sharing!!

Melissa Moore

Like any other mother Isabella had a hard time seeing her kids go. She was brutal and seeing someone actually doing the impossible and unthinkable helped reshape the unimaginable to viewable. Getting sappy here.🤧 Phil is MVP yet again. Idk how but we’ll be back for you Phil! 😭😭😭😭

Manny

What a ride, right?! This anime really surprised me, in terms of how much I ended up loving it. Like how you said, right from the first episode! I was wondering how you were going to react to that little backstory on Isabella.... I was disappointed lol. It's definitely conflicting! And yes, Phil is the best and I hope we'll see him again soon! I don't think I can wait for season 2, so I'll more than likely starting the manga soon lol.... I promise no spoilers though! :P Amazing reaction as always!!

Alex R

Even though she outright says (or thinks) "stay safe" and so on, the thing that really demonstrates that she hopes they can succeed is that she takes down the evidence of where and how they escaped. I also like how one of the things that led to the escape succeeding is that she didn't stop Norman from exploring the wall, because she assumed he'd come to the same conclusion as her that it's impossible. I think one of the reasons she said she was glad to have met someone like him is that, at the time, she thought his compliance validated her belief that escape was impossible. Much like the demons from Demon Slayer, I think she's the kind of character you can pity without forgiving.

Valerie.Z

Whoa! Another series you got caught up with the rest of us! Excited for more future content!!!

Amazing end to the season, that was a lot of fun to watch all over again with you! A couple of fun little tidbits now! Leslie was not Isabella’s “brother,” lol. It was more accurate to say that he was more like her Norman, if you catch my drift. I’m pretty sure neither knew exactly what was happening, she didn’t until her ship date. Also, now that you know the origin of that little lullaby, notice when you all heard it… She always hummed it whenever she was shipping the kids out, or when she was pregnant. Perhaps that song was her way of steeling herself up to doing… what she had to do. It was definitely a twisted cycle for the moms to live in. Imagine having to raise these children from infancy until adolescence, only to ship them out… And never being sure which one is your actual biological child. I couldn’t imagine if it was more cruel for Isabella to know that Ray was her child or to never truly know. The only thing I know for sure is that she truly loved them all. That is, in fact, why her farm was the best of them all, why she was able to raise better quality “products” than the rest: Because as twisted as the situation was, she raised them with love. That little montage of Mom’s memories was only half of the story, because the manga had that all juxtaposed with her thoughts at the same time. The anime, for whatever reason, decided not to include them though. So I took the liberty of tracking down that portion of the manga and writing it all down for you. (I saw someone do something similar on youtube a long time ago, but of course I can’t find it now!!) (Starting from the scene with Leslie playing his mandolin for Isabella) “I loved. I loved Leslie. I loved my home. I loved… “I could stay strong. Because I had that tune with me. I have no regrets. After all, this was the path I chose for myself. I can’t change the world. What would my death do? If anything, I need to make the best of what I do have. I must provide all of the love inside of me. I must let them live as long as possible. These children know nothing. He’s no longer around. I must live for myself… And to give purpose to Leslie’s life.” … “Ray, where did you learn that tune?” “... Mama, why did you give birth to me?” “So that I could survive. I wanted to live. Longer than anybody else. I was so unbelievably frustrated to find out that he had been killed. I can’t do or change a single thing. And that’s exactly why I wanted to do the least I could do. To live… As a human they couldn’t eat! “But I suppose it doesn’t really matter anymore. This is my defeat. Those children have escaped. I am now a useless keeper who couldn’t protect her own goods. Just now, all my efforts to reach the top have been utterly destroyed. No matter how hard I try to capture those children again, I… Perhaps if I had kept Krone around… If I hadn’t let Norman see the other side of the wall that day… The results may have been different. No… It’s useless to think of ‘what-ifs’. In any case, it still remains true that I wasn’t able to see through the growth of those children. This is my defeat. They were so small… All of them… Used to be… So small. “I wish I could have just loved them normally. “Farewell. Stay safe. If the world will permit it… I sincerely hope all find a light at the end of the tunnel. They won’t come after them for a good while. There’s no way they’d guess those children escaped from the cliff. I’ve already collected the remaining ropes. They’ll be searching all over for those kids within the plantations for a long time. This is the end of what I can do. Please do your best to escape! Go… As far as you possibly can!!

Preston Elkins

Also in the manga she never lets her hair down. I guess it's kind of a trope but it does make her look more sympathetic since she looks different than she normally does with the bun

tom

You are correct! "Mom's weakness" was her being Ray's biological mother, hence Krone going "how does Ray know this? Isabella shouldn't know", but by pure chance they both knew because Ray didn't have infantile amnesia. This also explains when Mom was like "I'm not worried if Norman and the others try to kill me, you (Ray) will protect me". In the end Mom realised she lost and since there was nothing she could do, she took down the rope zip lines, meaning there was absolutely no evidence of how the kids escaped and from what direction. It will just have looked like they disappeared. Phil is best kid, as always. Overall such a strong 12 episodes of a show, the manga is actually ending in like a month or so I can't wait to catch up but overall I'm more excited for S2. The music and voice acting and art style of the anime is what makes the characters so compelling, also I think it's so cool how the lullaby Ray heard Isabella humming is one of the most prominent OSTs in the show, and the way it transitions into the full version as the kids are running into the night is so great. This was certainly a blast

tom

I think the best thing is to see for yourself 😅 https://youtu.be/SfsWwkmL8BM most of the kids are just kids but Norman Emma and Ray look like older teens or adults 😆

Alex Cross

I see what you mean!! It definitely put her in a different perspective for me to see what she went through firsthand. Ohhh did she say that to Emma? Come to think of it, I think she did say "you'll have a child" or "you'll have children" but I just kinda assumed that meant she'd be put in charge of kids on a "farm". LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! They got me AGAIN with Spirit Norman, can you believe it?!?!?!?! :P This show was so intense and beautiful, for sure! Can't wait for season 2! Thank you!!!

Melissa Moore

I ended this first season loving Isabella and I really think 99% of people would have done what she did, it was for survival, after all. If I'm not wrong, Isabella told Emma that in order to become a "mom" she would need to have a baby (this scene was just after Norman got harvested). And omg, the moment Norman appeared and you started crying... CAN I GET A NON EMOTIONAL MEAL? HAHA One of the most beautiful shows I have seen in a while. I hope season 2 will be as beautiful and emotional!!

NFM NFM

Hahaha YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! XD What, really?!?! Are there actual kids playing the kids?! I could see that being a little....weird....guess we'll have to wait and see haha!

Melissa Moore

Right?! Underneath the shock, horror, etc. of this world is the beauty and innocence of childhood. It's such a dichotomy and they pull off the two tones perfectly on the show! I agree it's a beautiful series!!!

Melissa Moore

YAY! So glad I posted it in time! Oh interesting! I agree, I kind of like Leslie playing it and not humming it. The confrontation is a big thing to change! Hmmm! So that would make Isabella much more sympathetic in the anime, that she willingly conceded to Emma face to face!!! Thakns for the info!

Melissa Moore

Also I was just looking up about season 2 and saw that there's a live action movie coming out in December!?!? And it looks..... Weird to say the least!

Alex Cross

YES YES YES YESSSSSSSS thats all I have to say really 🤣

Alex Cross

They changed a few things from the manga. For the better in my opinion. Isabella's lullaby was originally hummed by Leslie, but in the anime they made him play it on an instrument. Isabella never confronts Emma at the end. She just finds the ropes, which she promptly collects.

Aadit Doshi

As horrible as a lot of the things that happen in the show are, it's one of the most beautiful I've seen in a long time.

Damie♥

Right on time.
