Attack on Titan season 3 ep 12 mid credits scene??
Added 2020-05-07 14:20:19 +0000 UTCHey everyone! I was wondering if you could help me out! It's come to my attention that halfway through the end credits for season 3 ep 12 of AoT, there's a scene that may contain some veiled spoilers for future events. Since you guys have been so awesome on not giving specifics, I honestly have no clue if these spoilers would be clear to me and/or if they'd be a big deal! So, I'm leaving it to my Awesome Patrons to decide - should I watch the mid-credits scene, or not? Thanks in advance!!!! You're all the best!!! ~ MH
PS I'll definitely be skipping the opening theme for eps 13 - 18!

Yep, the intro for the second half of Season 3 needs to avoided. Too much imagery, symbolism and so on . Again, people unfamiliar with the story might piece it together from the information in the opening. I had gone past in the manga, but not quite finished that arc, and the intro was a nice shout out to the fans. Only after a certain episode should the opening be seen.

2020-05-13 19:51:21 +0000 UTCIt was mainly made as a big hook for the manga readers, to confirm that yes indeed they were going to reach the Midnight Sun chapter (because that was the break when they took a hiatus mid season). The scene is so short and vague and you'll probably be distracted with how creepy it is. The intro for the second half of season 3 (starting episode 13) is way way way more spoilery than that scene.
2020-05-12 08:08:19 +0000 UTCYes! That's exactly what I thought when I saw this, too. It fits into the same insidious category as telling someone "just wait to see how cool 'X' character gets in season 'Y'!" "Well, great... now all dramatic tension for that character's livelihood up until season 'Y' has been annihilated, because I know they live until then..." Or when someone says something innocuous or "in-jokey" related to a spoiler, and then someone else transforms it into a spoiler by saying "Hey, why did you spoil that for them?" I guess we can only hope that all this hubbub and priming don't affect the experience too much.

2020-05-08 16:05:13 +0000 UTCThank you everyone for your input!!!!!!!! So the poll shows that most folks want me to watch it.....and some of the comments are referencing the fact that although it is technically spoilery, it probably won't hurt my enjoyment of the episode/season to watch it.....so after carefully considering what you guys have been telling me, I've decided to watch it! I hope the 31 folks who voted against that will understand - I hate doing things that will make some folks unhappy, but I hope you can still enjoy my reaction nonetheless!!!!!!! Thank you again for taking the time to vote and comment! You guys are the BEST! What another great reminder of how awesome my Patrons are :) HUGS!!!!!! ~ MH

2020-05-08 12:45:35 +0000 UTC"People say to skip Ilse's Notebook until after the Ymir reveal to not spoil the Beast Titan talking and not give a clue to Ymir's importance." This is always so crazy to me. Like, in the manga it's shown BEFORE Eren joins the Survey Corps. As in, in the middle of Season 1. And I think it's really important in building ongoing mystery that pays off long term, but also it does wonders for Ymir's character with her hiding in plain sight, and you thinking she has something ominous going on but it ends up being she was just a girl who got given a big name and did the best to learn from that experience. So I agree with you, and it's a shame so many reactors don't watch it because it really adds a level of intrigue to the story.

2020-05-08 08:03:58 +0000 UTCFor me, being told that you can't watch something cuz it's a spoiler sours the experience FAR more than if I had just watched it naturally and not had any context for what I'm seeing. Not the case for everyone, obviously, but it's how I've always seen it.

2020-05-08 07:38:12 +0000 UTCMelissa, you skipped the Season 2 Opening, as you now know, it depicts the battle with Eren and the Scouts vs the Colossal and Armored Titans, and if you look at the heroes lined up on top of the wall before they charge, Bertholdt and Reiner and Ymir are missing, giving you a big clue, but only if you catch it and examine it, you'd be spoiled. People say to skip Ilse's Notebook until after the Ymir reveal to not spoil the Beast Titan talking and not give a clue to Ymir's importance. But you saw it at the right moment intended by the author, telling you to pay attention to Ymir, and to ease you in to the insanity of the talking Beast Titan. In fact, Ilse's story is told in the manga after the Trost battle. AND, the Ymir flashback is told later in the manga, we saw it earlier in the anime, but you are not really spoiled. The after credit scene gives you a scene without context, it's dramatic, and you may or may not guess correctly what is going on, but certainly not why or how we got there. It was given to tide us over the months long wait between episodes. It absolutely baffles and shocks people that react to it. If you want to give yourself a big TEASE of what is going to happen, you will be equally shocked. But the spoiler aspect of it falls in line with the other instances I brought up before. It is up to you to decide how blind you want to go into it. Us who saw it, it still did not diminish the impact or importance of the episode. It build up and hyped up our anticipation for it, if it wasn't hyped enough.

2020-05-08 05:19:07 +0000 UTCIf you avoided watching the season 2 opening but watch this it would seem a little contradictory tbh. I'm in favor of skipping it. The teaser in the end credits was great for the anime onlies who were watching it whilst it was airing and were gonna have to wait 6 months to see what happens next but in your case there's not much point since you're gonna watch the episodes immediately after, so a teaser is a bit redundant. I think it would be a better experience to go into it completely blind tbh

2020-05-07 20:05:16 +0000 UTCI agree with everything you said except the S3P2 opening. That opening literally goes and shows you the events that happen one by one.

2020-05-07 19:08:30 +0000 UTCI mean... I've literally watched people in real time predict what that scene is foreshadowing and get it 100% right. However, 1) I think that was intended by the animation team and manga author to some extent; and 2) those people were freakin' HYPED that they called it and that scene ended up having a positive effect on them anyway. If you're part of the vast majority I've seen that don't understand the scene at the time, then it's just a nice bit of foreshadowing that I personally think is really well done. Honestly, this is really weird, since I have never seen any postulating over this scene being spoilery, and whether a reactor should watch it at all, on any other channel. But maybe I just missed that? I did think the S2 OP was spoiler-free, after all lol. Oh yeah, and on a related note, you will get NO complaints from me on not watching the S3 part 2 OP. Holy jeez, the animation team went overboard with that one!

2020-05-07 16:34:04 +0000 UTCI'm voting skip, but mostly because I haven't ever seen anyone's reaction to season 3 part 2 without having watched the end credits first. It colors your experience of the rest of the season. However it really isn't going to ruin your experience either way IMHO, it certainly didn't ruin mine.

2020-05-07 16:21:58 +0000 UTCIt's not a spoiler & was put in for a reason (please watch!). This is coming from someone who absolutely avoids every kind of spoiler

2020-05-07 15:47:30 +0000 UTCI know most people think it’s a hype and cool scene and want you to see it since it has no context but I’ve seen other reactors easily be able to piece things together and figure out the context of the scene after watching it or while watching Season 3 part 2, which did in fact spoil them being completely surprised by a later scene in the anime. I personally thought the studio were stupid to put that scene in the credits even though I understand what they were trying to do. Still, I’m gonna guess that most people will vote for you to see it because they think it’ll get you hype. I just don’t want it to ruin things a little later but I suppose it isn’t a massive deal. It is a future clip from the next part of the season but without context. Since you’re watching the series straight through and not having to wait a year for the next part of the season like we did, there’s really no reason for you to watch it since you’re gonna see the full scene with context a few episodes later.

2020-05-07 15:40:22 +0000 UTCI commented on the other post but I thought I'd sum up my thoughts here too. I think it's interesting to see, as others have said it's well done. And if you want to watch it it's best to do so in episode 12, otherwise it loses it's impact later. If you choose to skip it, you would miss out on it, even if you decide to come back to it later. However, something I didn't point out eralier, I think it might influence your experience in season 3 part 2 in not so obvious ways. I can't go in any more detail. But again, I don't think there's a bad choice here, I think it's either watching something cool in the mid credits, or going in 100% instead of 99.9% blind in season 3 part 2.

2020-05-07 15:14:52 +0000 UTCyeah, as a manga reader I was unhappy when they put that teaser there. at the time it was really hype because leading up to it we knew they were going to put something extra in the credits but we weren't sure what and this exceeded expectations. but in retrospect yeah so many people figured it out and I feel like it would have been far more impactful if it wasn't in there, and it feels weird if you're watching the whole season at once. that being said, the way Melissa watches with only a couple episodes a week makes me think it will be enough time in between that it won't be pointless like the people who binge the show, but since there won't be 6 months in between, it might not be enough time to figure it out because she will be watching stuff in between and not having to wait for so long wondering what's next. so overall I think she should watch it

2020-05-07 14:47:30 +0000 UTCI think you'd be missing out if you didn't watch it. It's so well done.

2020-05-07 14:41:26 +0000 UTCThat scene was added intentionally with the approval of the manga author. You should watch it.

2020-05-07 14:39:58 +0000 UTCIf you really don't like being spoiled in openings then I would probably avoid this too. It's not as clear as day about what's going on as some of the stuff in the openings, however when this first aired I and several other people I know managed to piece together what was going on in this scene before the episode where this scene happens aired, and we were correct more or less about every single detail, then wishing we'd never seen it. It was only really put there for the people who were watching it at the time of airing, because WIT studio knew how big the hunger was for that particular story arc over any of the previous arcs. However for some people it could add to the experience, the way it's implemented is very well done, it's not JUST as simple as an end credits scene but I obviously won't go into detail about why, you'll know instantly what I mean once you get there if you decide to watch it. So, personally I wouldn't, I wish I hadn't, like I said as a result of it existing I managed to piece together a massive plot point before it aired and although it felt cool to put pieces together I wish I didn't have the information to do so in the first place. But do consider that because of the way it's implemented it could actually be a nice addition for some people including yourself.

2020-05-07 14:25:26 +0000 UTCIts kind of tough to say for certain, since it will showcase a future scene but it wont have any context to it. So even with plenty of theorizing I doubt you can figure it out. So I'd say its safe to watch.
