My Hero Academia 4x18 "School Festival" full reaction

Hey everyone!  Here is my reaction/review for season 4, episode 18.  It's School Festival Time you guys, yaaayyyy!!!!  So much of this ep was fun and cute, and then there were some parts that broke my heart...!!  Also, there's a new player in town, Gentle.  He doesn't seem too intimidating, but I'm still a bit scared about the festival!  Great ep!  PLUS ULTRA!!!!  Enjoy!   ~  MH

I'm so glad you liked my reaction! And I wanted to take a minute to thank you so much for this introspective, analytic comment and for sharing your thoughts/info. I am so sorry about what you went through as a child....this episode definitely made an excellent point that while child abuse doesn't have to ruin the rest of your life, it is something that you can never fully erase from your life. I really appreciate all the info you shared; it's awesome that a work of fiction like this can spur people on to investigate, learn, and hopefully heal from trauma like this. I don't discuss it a lot in my videos but most of you can probably tell by now that these episodes dealing with Eri's abuse hit me pretty personally....it can be tough to watch but I'm really just grateful that they're addressing the subject because I think it will lead a lot of people to great info that can help them, like what you've stated here in the comments. Please don't be sorry btw, I'm really glad you took the time to list all this info!!!! I wish you lots of success on your journey dealing with your past, your PTSD, and your EFD. Here's hoping Eri will get lots of love and help in eps to come too! Thank you again - writing a comment like this couldn't have been easy and I really appreciate it. It also happened to come at a time when I really needed to see it so thank you!!!!!!!!!

Melissa Moore

Exactly!!! He's the best! Ohhhh you know what, I actually didn't make that connection between the candy apple and the one in the opening until you mentioned it!!! :O Haha I think you're right about Gentle and LaBrava!!!!!!! XD Can't wait to see more!

jiro is so precious and i love kaminari being so encouraging. it’s gonna be so fun to see all the stuff they’re gonna do. im sure mirio meant it in the most innocent, sweet way but it does sound a little sketch lol. i was so happy to see eri and loved seeing your reaction too. *warning: infodump/introspective about some of the effects of child abuse and the kind of stuff eri will be dealing with ((this kind of thing is really interesting and important to me so i've done a lot of research on it on top of having various forms of personal experience and learning from my therapist mother, but obviously I'm not a professional)) i found it kind of funny (in a naivety way) and obviously sad when deku was saying eri still hasn't been saved yet because he's absolutely right, but also realistically speaking, eri's going to live with that trauma for the rest of her life. unfortunately, he's just not gonna be able to save her from that. with the proper care she'll start to heal and move on and just making her smile with things like the festival is fantastic, but it'll never disappear. she'll probably suffer from some pretty bad ptsd for a while at least, if not have it just be an affliction she carries with her forever. it's tragic, but it's the reality of it. you never forget that kinda shit and especially when it happens at such a developmental age. even aside from the obvious and short term effects, child abuse can have long term and even intergenerational (changes that can literally end up being passed down in your genes) physical, psychological and behavioral consequences. childhood maltreatment can lead to various health issues and has been linked to higher risk of things like lung disease, vision problems, brain damage, migraines, chronic bronchitis, stroke, chronic fatigue syndrome and more. psychologically speaking, some long term effects are things like diminished executive functioning and cognitive skills, poor mental and emotional health (it's a big risk factor for psychological disorders esp ones like anxiety and depression, attachment and social difficulties and post traumatic stress). childhood maltreatment can affect individuals behaviors as adolescents and adults in ways like unhealthy sexual practices, juvenile delinquency and subsequently often adult criminality, substance abuse, further perpetration of maltreatment β€” although most children who have experienced abuse do not go on to abuse their own children, research shows they are more likely to do so compared to children who were not mistreated, often the result of children learning early on that abuse is an appropriate way to parent *cough* bakugou "sometimes you have to use violence" "that's how i was raised" *cough*. it can literally stunt the physical development of the brain. child abuse has been associated with certain regions of the brain failing to form, function, or grow properly. amygdala β€” key to processing emotions. hippocampus β€” central to learning and memory. orbitofrontal cortex β€” reinforcement-based decision-making and emotion regulation. cerebellum β€” helps coordinate motor behavior and executive functioning. corpus callous β€” left brain/right brain communication and other processes (ie. arousal, emotion, higher cognitive abilities). i can say from experience that things like PTSD and Executive Functioning Disorder are a b*tch and affects literally every aspect of your life. it's been ten years since i got out of an abusive home (I'm 20 now) and I'm still living with it. eri's going to need a lot of therapy and tlc. i can't wait to see her smile and finally get to start experiencing being a kid and being properly cared for!! sorry for just going off like this in your comments lmao. Deku again analyses everything, even classmates that are dancing, and how that affects their ability as a Hero. Such a Nerd. That’s we love him. Remember the candied Apple from the opening? And how many students took part at shaping it? Oh you will like Gentle and La Brava. I can tell :D

Kevin

I couldn't agree more!!! That's definitely not a spoiler, I could already tell he wouldn't be like Overhaul, thank God lol. I do worry about him getting in the way of Eri's happiness though! Have a great one! :)

Melissa Moore

We need to make Eri smile and you will love no spoilers and the new quote on quote Villians but we get a huge break from people who aren't sadistic like Overhaul hope that isn't to spoil have a great day love
