Attack on Titan 1x15 "Special Operations Squad: Eve of the Counterattack, Part 2" reaction & review

Hey everyone!  Here's my reaction/review of season 1, episode 15.  So much happening in this ep - a cleaning montage, a hint at Levi's past, captive Titans with cuddly names, and we get to know Hange better, which I was all for!  And as always, I'm left with more questions than answers!!  Great ep!  Enjoy!  ~ MH

Attack on Titan 1x15 "Special Operations Squad: Eve of the Counterattack, Part 2" reaction & review

I saw some folks mentioning that the story was real! That's even more grim and grizzly in that case! However, I do need to argue that Bean is an incredibly cute name for a Titan haha.

Got it! I figured as much....but couldn't remember which one (anime or manga) in which she didn't have a defined gender. Thanks for the info!

Melissa Moore

The names Hanji gave the titans, Sawney and Bean. Are named after the real life mass murderer Sawney Bean from the 16th century who was the head of a clan of 45 men in Scotland that would kill and then eat people. That's the story she was talking about to the titans.

Hanji's gender in the manga is up for the reader to decide since Isayama (the manga author) didn't see it as something important that needed an answer. Meanwhile in the anime Hanji is definitively female since you can see they gave her breasts.

Thanks for the heads up!

Yikes!!!!!!!!

Melissa Moore

Thanks for being cautious!!! I think it's fine because it sounds like they don't mention it again....? I just take everything very literally and didn't understand that he was lying >.<

LOL!!

btw, you should get vrv it has everything crunchyroll does and hi dive (anime) and more

you may want to rewatch the whole thing. There is a lot of forshadowing and "hints"

Adam Stinnett

they said both captured titans was killed before dawn and watchmen saw how someone flying away with maneuver gear definitelly a murder case :o

If you go back and rewatch episode three, you may notice that Eren already had his regenerative abilities. When Eren was hit on the head during training, his injury subtly emitted steam, just like Titans when they're regenerating. And the next day his serious head injury was fully healed.

i wanted to tell you that Pixis was basically lying about the whole secret weapon but.. i didnt know if its not a spoiler.. :D

Yeah, Hange is a lot less gendered in multiple ways in the manga. The anime has Hange look a lot more feminine. In the manga, she has a much more androgynous look. It seems like this is a pretty common thing when adapting a character like that into anime. You have to animate a character that previously existed only in static image, pick a voice actor/ress, among other things, and by extension, you kind of end up gendering them, even if that isn't the intention. This same thing happened with the character Crona from Soul Eater as well.

Krista is the fluffiest and i'll fight anyone who disagrees (almost messed the name up) Also, it's scary that Hange is directly in line of command after Erwin. btw the cannibal story actually happened in real life, it's not just a story. Titans decay very fast once killed. You could see Eren's titan turn black when he emerged, when he half transformed the skeleton decayed. When you see blood from a titan on a soldier it will steam and disappear after a short while. and yea, i told you hange is female in the anime but in the manga they don't use atashi (female pronoun for I) it's generaly watashi (I polite form as she is a soldier) and i think they use Hange in the manga instead of she or her.

Don't kink shame Hanji, she just out here trying to have a titan orgy.

Awesome, thanks so much for letting me know! And thanks, I'm so glad you enjoyed the reaction! ^_^ And thanks for the heads up on the OVA's - I will make a note about the Ilse's Notebook, and it's good to know there are some Levi ones out there, too! ^_^

Melissa Moore

Keep watching it all the way, there might be some aftercredits in some episodes. :)) Great reaction as always. Also after season 1 there are 3 OVA episodes that you should watch. Ilse's notebook is one that is particularly meant to be watched before season 2 (a few people prefer to have reactors watch it after S2E1 because of some reasons, but it is before that in the manga and it came out way before season 2). About the other 2 OVA's they are just some Levi backstory that you can see at any point honestly - No Regrets 1 & 2. Can't wait for the next reaction.
