after a full day of working on string composition and eventually hitting a brick wall (the cello, and writing for cellists, and an overall idea i had for fugue that has been the silliest experiment i've ever started) i think i'll spend an hour or so sitting in silence with my cat this morning... maybe a good time to write comics? not that i'm not excited to return to coming up with solutions for songwriting problems i've created by overcomplicating entire sections. it's fun to mess things up. you get to learn a lot very quickly that way

here are a few of the books i've kept by my computer at all times, flipping through or reading with my morning coffee, or afternoon dr pepper. i'm not classically trained in any sense, so a lot of reading books, internet forums and watching youtube to explain concepts i'm working toward is a fairly standard routine for me during the wee small hours of the morning, or night. it's been like that for over ten years now. i often wonder what going to school to get a formal education in music might look like... i would probably be able to finish this cello bit, a bit quicker. hmm

anyway, books:

the entire arcana series by zorn alone is like a full course on how to achieve your goals with songwriting

japanoise is the history of japanese NOISE for anyone that's interested in... you know, noise

fight your own war is a fascinating history of power electronics and noise, for anyone who's interested in... you know, noise and all

the will to keep winning is about mentality in fighting games, and the autobiography of DAIGO THE BEAST UMEHARA

schoenberg reads to me like a fella attempting to break the rules of classical composition and nearly challenging me and everyone else to break his own stipulations for a well-crafted piece of music

the study of fugue is my bible right now, it is indeed a study of fugue

oh, and of course i've been reading stuart gordon's autobiography. i love his movies

i hope you're all having a wonderful day! i feel fairly happy with the way everything is turning out right now, hiccups included
