I do enjoy the 4th and 5th movie as well. As mentioned in another comment, Jack was cursed because he took a coin when he was talking to Barbossa. When he mentioned 'Wait to lift the curse until the opportune moment, you see Will's look of understanding. This was a message from Jack to Will to play along, as Jack had mentioned the opportune moment earlier in the movie to Will when they were at the cave the first time. I think Jack just wanted the Pearle back no matter what... But he did try to help Will and even the Navy... as well, if Norrington had listened to Jack and gone to back to the ship to shoot at the pirates with their gunns, there would have been more people on the Dauntless to protect it. And Jack tried to get Barbossa to send the pirates out of the cave in boats so the Navy would see them and be able to stall them with their cannons until he had been able to lift the curse... I'm so sorry for rambling... just so happy you're doing these movies
